How To Build a Capital-Efficient Startup Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Investors look for capital-efficient businesses to invest in. Founders looking to raise funding should first consider building a capital-efficient startup. Here are some key steps to building a startup that is capital-efficient: Look for a business opportunity that generates good revenue from the customer. The customer will pay a high price for the product. This often comes from a good product-to-market fit. The business runs efficiently and doesn't need a great deal of money to provide the product or service. Businesses in this category are considered frugal and spend carefully. Salaries are kept low, which raises the value of the equity of the business. The startup is in a high-growth market segment generating organic growth. The startup is highly scalable and doesn't need a great deal of capital to grow. Capital-efficient businesses in the long run should do better because they don't have to raise capital as often. Investors should look for these drivers in potential startup investments. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _______________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: http://investorconnect.org Check out our other podcasts here: https://investorconnect.org/ For Investors check out: https://tencapital.group/investor-landing/ For Startups check out: https://tencapital.group/company-landing/ For eGuides check out: https://tencapital.group/education/ For upcoming Events, check out https://tencapital.group/events/ For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please follow, share, and leave a review. How To Build a Moat for Your Startup Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Investors look for protection against the competition. The stronger the moat around the business, the more compelling the offering. Here are some key steps to build a moat into your startup: Develop a unique brand that stands out. This prevents others from copying the business model and diverting revenue away from the startup. Build lock-ins into the business. Design your product into the workflow of the business, making it difficult to replace. Install infrastructure that reduces the cost of the product. This removes low-end competitors that lack the financial resources to build large-scale systems. Develop a truly unique product that can be protected with Intellectual Property tools such as patents or trade secrets. This makes it difficult for competitors to simply copy the business. Focus on a market niche or sub-segment so there's not enough business available for competitors to pursue. The startup could develop patents around its solution for that niche, giving it an additional advantage. The stronger the moat, the more the investor will be interested. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _________________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: http://investorconnect.org Check out our other podcasts here: https://investorconnect.org/ For Investors check out: https://tencapital.group/investor-landing/ For Startups check out: https://tencapital.group/company-landing/ For eGuides check out: https://tencapital.group/education/ For upcoming Events, check out https://tencapital.group/events/ For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please follow, share, and leave a review. The issue is leadership alignment, ego, and unclear personal goals. Growth stalls when the owner refuses to evolve. In this episode you will learn how to define your future role, when to hire a president or COO, and why reinvesting profits into your firm often beats outside investments. You will also hear why chasing 10X growth without clarity leads to burnout. How To Build an Elevator Pitch Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. The elevator pitch is the short form of your startup pitch. It introduces the deal to an investor and gives the key highlights. The goal is not to tell them everything but rather to intrigue them to learn more about it. Here's how to build an elevator pitch: State in five words or fewer what the startup does. Show two examples of the impact of the startup using numbers. This could be exploding revenue, such as "We're seeing 50% month over month growth." It could have an impact on the community, such as "We help feed 5000 children a week." State the goal of the startup, such as "We're looking to reach a break-even in 4 months." Choose three words that best describe your startup and work them into the pitch. Choose three phrases that best describe your startup and build them into the pitch. The keywords will help the audience understand the context. The catch phrases will help the audience understand what the startup does. Consider these steps in building your elevator pitch. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. What if misclassifying your team could cost you thousands in back taxes, penalties, and missed benefits? Most business owners don't realize how risky it can be to pay someone as a contractor when they really should be an employee. In this episode, Danielle Hayden, reformed corporate CFO and CEO of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., simplifies the IRS classification rules into a 3-step framework that helps you confidently decide whether your next hire or current team should be a contractor or employee, and when it might be time to make a change. Key Takeaways:  Know the 3 Keys of Classification: These are the factors the IRS uses to determine if someone should be classified as an employee or contractor. Behavioral Control – Who decides how and when the work gets done? Financial Control – Who provides the equipment and sets the pay rate? Relationship – Is this a short-term project or an ongoing partnership? A Signed Contract Doesn't Override Your Day-to-Day Working Relationship: If you control how, when, and with what tools someone works, they're likely an employee, no matter what the contract says. Your Team Structure Will Evolve as Your Business Grows: It's normal to start with contractors and transition to employees as you establish systems, brand standards, and long-term goals. Don't Forget the Tax Implications: Contractors complete a W9 and handle their own taxes (including the employer portion). Employees go on payroll, and you, the business owner, take on that responsibility. Trust Your Gut and Your "Auditor Test": If you couldn't confidently explain to an auditor why someone is a contractor, it's probably time to make them an employee. Topics Discussed: (00:00) Intro: The Costly Risks of Misclassifying Your Team + The 3 Key Factors the IRS Uses (02:28) Step 1: Behavioral Control – Who's in Charge of the How and When? (02:56) Step 2: Financial Control – Who Sets the Pay and Provides the Tools? (03:24) Step 3: Relationship – Short-Term Project or Long-Term Partnership? (04:13) Why a Signed Agreement Isn't Enough If You're Relationship Says Otherwise (04:44) Trusting Your Gut: The "Auditor Test" for Classification Decisions (05:14) How Your Hiring Strategy Evolves as Your Business Grows (08:13) Tax Implications: W9s, 1099s, and Who's Responsible for What (09:58) Resources on Hiring and Payroll for Business Owners from Kickstart Accounting, Inc.  (10:29) Quick Recap of 3-Step Framework + Danielle's "Gut Check" Test Before Hiring (11:06) Outro: Like, Share and Subscribe!   Related Episodes: The Employee Expansion Blueprint: When It's Time to Convert 1099 Contractors – Ep 120 Resources: The Ultimate Small Business Hiring Guide: From Planning to Payroll, How To Build a Thriving Team    Book a Call with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: https://kickstartaccountinginc.com/book-a-call/    Connect with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/Kickstartaccounting YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/@businessbythebooks  Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/kickstartaccountinginc

What if I told you that the secret to unlocking your team's creative potential isn't working harder—it's asking better questions? Here's the problem: Most business leaders are getting mediocre results from AI because they're playing it safe. They're asking vanilla questions and getting vanilla answers, then wondering why their competitors seem to be pulling ahead. You've invested time learning AI tools, maybe even paying for premium subscriptions, but your outputs still feel… mid. Generic. Safe. The kind of ideas that blend into the background noise of your industry. But what if the solution isn't better AI—it's better prompting? What if the key to breakthrough results lies in embracing what most people avoid: bad ideas? Today, I'm thrilled to welcome Jason Keath, founder of Social Fresh, who's been helping brands and agencies grow through social media since 2009. Jason's built one of the most respected voices in marketing, organizing conferences that bring together marketing leaders worldwide. He's worked with countless major brands and has recently cracked the code on something fascinating: creativity AI prompts that transform ordinary brainstorming into breakthrough business results. How To Build a Relationship With a VC Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. In raising funding, it's important to make contact and build a relationship with a venture capitalist. Here are some key steps in building that relationship before you need to raise funding: Make contact with the VC. Offer help to the VC in the form of introductions to key people who can help them. Make referrals to other investors, in particular limited partner candidates. Share market research and point out areas where value will accrue. This works particularly well for VCs who want to enter a new market space. Share what other investors are doing based on your research and experience. Invite the VC to join panels and other networking activities as they want to build their brand and get their name out there. Refer quality startups to the VC that actually meet their investment criteria. Avoid wasting the VCs time as it's limited and precious. Make every interaction meaningful. Follow through on your commitments. Consider these steps in building a relationship with a VC. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _______________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at:   Check out our other podcasts here:   For Investors check out:   For Startups check out:   For eGuides check out:   For upcoming Events, check out    For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group    Please , share, and leave a review. He's been fortunate enough to love his W2 job, but many don't love their career and want to go full-time in real estate or some other side hustle. If you do something from 5 - 9 PM for a couple of days every week, you'll have something significant in a decade or less. Ryan started flipping houses and became a millionaire in only a few years. What people don't understand is that he was developing his skills for years.Michael left his career in early 2018 and soon started feeling very depressed. He felt like he wasn't contributing and had no purpose. He started his YouTube channel and released 5 videos per day! He created over 1,000 videos, and no one was watching! Michael was so dedicated to creating something that will outlast him; he kept creating.Michael shares his journey growing his portfolio. He shares how he and his wife's incomes funded their lifestyle, but all cash flow from rentals went towards growing the portfolio. Now, Michael has amassed 180 rentals! He shares that the portfolio hadn't seen any serious cash flow for the first 5-6 years. So, if you're trying to get some supplemental income, rentals aren't the best choice in the short-term picture. You will not be financially free in rentals until about year 10, and it's not an easy journey.Americans have an average of 4 hours of discretionary time per day. How do you spend this time? If you want a different life, you need to spend this time differently than you do now. Michael also brings up the point that you may also need to find new friends. Ryan and Michael discuss how people can utilize their discretionary time and money to invest in their future. You can save money by cutting expenses, but it's also great to pursue more income. Using both strategies will teach you discipline and increase your investing budget. How do you choose where you invest? Michael's advice is to live where you want and invest where the numbers work. Sometimes this can be where you live, but sometimes they're not! Ryan and Michael discuss how Michael analyzes deals and what specific details people should look for when deciding on deals.
