My amazing guest co-host, AlishaCherise reflects on her experience of becoming a mother at the age of 14. With laughter, vulnerability, and truth she recalls the moments of insecurity and celebration of her and her child’s successes. Kudos to you Alisha, for overcoming and doing the damn thing!!! You are the epitome of resilience and grace!
Short Episode!!! I have met and spoke with some beautiful, intelligent, but most importantly unapologetic Mothers. These mommas' have inspired and encouraged me to keep striving, love and accept myself so that I can be my best self. In this episode I reflect on how through my own insecurity I unconsciously tore a woman down for being unapologetically herself...
No one is exempt from neither Trauma nor having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. And NO, you do not have to be military or a veteran to have PTSD. Trauma can be physical and sexual abuse, family and domestic violence, a serious car accident, and or a natural disaster. As a mother with PTSD your battle is everyday, with support (friends and family), self compassion, spiritual direction, therapy, and more you are closer to peace. I had the honor of sharing this platform this week with guest co host, Kathy Parker. She has written pieces for different online platforms such as The Mighty, (where I first found her). She is a writer, poet, blogger, and author. She published her first book last year, A Heart Unravelled a book of poetry documenting her personal journey of breaking and mending, surviving to loving, and the courage to rise from the darkest places. Kathy is a survivor of sexual abuse and shares her journey of healing with us. Just speaking with her gave me courage and a few Aha moments in my personal journey of healing. Please visit her website- https://kathyparker.com.au/the-unravelled-heart/And follow her on instagram - Kathyparkerwriter I strongly believe this topic is so layered and complex that I know this will not be the only episode.
This month was tough with high anxiety. You ever helped a person and realized you were enabling? This episode I reflect on how I brought unrest, drama, and possible danger to my home in the name of helping. Remember, some people don’t want help; they want to invite you into their chaos. Also, remember saying NO is very freeing.
Hey Mommas! In this short episode, I am reflecting on my oldest child's birthday weekend on how his birth, birthed me. In 8 years (inspired by him) I have learned to embrace me and love me. I also share an oldie but goodie poem entitled, "My Boy Birthed This Woman". Take a listen
My special guest cohost is one of my favorite people, my 7 year old son, Zechariah! Z, candidly and whole heartedly answers questions about race, equality, and recent events. In this episode I am transparent and very much vulnerable in my reactions to his responses to the questions as well as how to move forward with conversations about race and police brutality. I am not sure how to... Take a Listen

Mothering While Being An Educator Pt. 2 - I share my very own experience as a child and wife of an Educator, as well as the time I taught while mothering. Rashana and I further discuss her balance of Mothering and being an inner city 6th grade teacher.
It is an off Monday and as promise a short episode! I am reciting a poem, Fear vs. Fantasy. I wrote this poem several years ago, it was during the time of Mike Brown's murder (by a police officer). Mike Brown was a teenager, gearing up to go to college that Fall. Riots incited due to the lack of accountability from the PD and judicial system in Ferguson, Missouri. After watching the story, I looked at my beautiful child, fear, anger, and anxiety crept in. Poetry being my survival mechanism. I went to my kitchen table with my journal and pen and wrote, I went into survival mode. Sadly, a mode many mother's experience.
