We’re back from a little summer break with a super cool episode. You may have seen Zac from Barmen Arts on Social Media as a stencil artist, having hundreds of thousands of followers and being re-posted by the greatest art accounts. We talk about how he began his journey with many mistakes and with layered stencil art, and how he’s done a bunch of different stencils over the years to get where he is today. His artwork really is a visionary illusion: It’s impressive how he takes a black poster and simply by cutting out some parts, he creates shapes and patterns that turn into something bigger: a portrait. It looks like a black & white painting, only see the details once you get closer to the piece. Zac said himself: “As simple as it is, it really is mind-blowing.” In addition to the sight, we talk about the different roles of senses and for example how the right choice of audio can boost your content on Social Media. It’s funny to see how he reacted to my question about his personal perception of the five senses, yet it’s no surprise. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We kick this off with Esther Elmi, who embodies an enormous degree of energy with positivity, open-mindedness, curiosity, creativity and self-awareness. She holds not only a psychology degree, she also became a DJ. Today, she hosts her own radio show and leads DJ yoga sessions to connect sounds with mental well-being and to re-connect with yourself. How can being in the present moment help you with mental health issues? How does our brain processes music and audio? Why does she listen to local music while traveling? Here's some of Esther's advises: When travelling, listen to local authentic music. Make sure that your music and movements sink. Be conscious about how music influences your mental health, what you let into your brain, how it makes you feel. Have some moments of silence. Thank you so much for tuning in. Alex and Katie are co-creators of the project “Small Towns to Summits”. Last year, they spent their summer exploring how human interaction affects our experiences. They traveled to six different states in the Western US and climbed one of the tallest mountains in each state. On their journey, they interviewed people from small towns near the mountains and other climbers they met. The goal of this project is to combine their own story with the voices of the people they interviewed. In today's episode, Alex and Katie share with us how they explored their own senses and why they used different mediums to capture their amazing experiences. Let us be guided by their motivation: to be overconfident and underprepared. Let us keep learning to grow, to trust in ourselves and to set our mindset.
