Polymaths - CHRIS FROSIN

Welcome back to the latest episode of the Polymaths podcast. An interview format episode with another of my talented friends; this time Daniel Bevis, a Senior Knowledge Editor at an advertising company and an automotive journalist who writes for more of the UK car magazines than you can shake a stick at. We delve in to his world and discuss everything from the cars he regrets selling to some of his influences to his writing style. Episode 30 is here. It is becoming a little long between episodes and I am going to start addressing that. I've a number of interviews lined up to record and myself and Ash will be getting together more regularly now our hectic schedules have stabilised a little.  This episode touches a little on the aforementioned schedules as well as a Kolsen Archery update, Canada and landing a 70m high rocket back on earth – for those of you who are regular listeners you will no doubt guess that the latter is referring to Mr Musks latest SpaceX mission.

The second of my interview formats takes us on a journey in to the world of Instinctive Archery and a good friend of mine, 'Grizzly' Jim™ Kent. This guy is one of the reasons I stayed in archery after the first 'toe dip' as it were. A very passionate archer but with so many interesting stories about the world and his journey within it.

After my first interview episode Ash was in town for the weekend. We thought it would be rude not to give everyone an update on what we've been working on, thinking about and getting excited by so here is episode 28 of your favourite polymathic podcast with Ashley and myself.

In this episode, the first of a new format of interviews, I talk to Calgary based photography Ryan HK. We discuss how his photography journey started and along the way delve deeper in to some of his other interests including leatherworking and a close shave with an avalanche. Back in business! Our first 'over Skype' recorded episode of Polymaths. We're trying a shorter format with Polymaths now, trying to keep to one or two subjects. This time, we take some time to discuss some of the books we're both working on planning, writing and finishing to get published. Some inspirational thoughts are passed around as well. Five hours! That's how long it took me to drive over to Ash's today just to record a podcast for you guys! Ok, so there were other things involved and we talk about them in this episode recorded in the grand dining room.

2016! Happy New Year to everyone listening. We got off to a cracking start this year. Two days in and we've already done a podcast recording. What DON'T we talk about this week? Errrrr... I don't think we mention the Kardashians. Politicians, Syria, guitars, archery, photography, writing, personal projects over Christmas, goal setting... Yup, it's a busy one today; we hope you enjoy!

We're back! Or more to the point, Ashley is back... from his trip to Canada. We talk about his travels, experiences and plans as well as catch up with my photography. With the prospect of a consistent internet connection between us for the next few months, we're aiming to be back to our weekly show; We can't wait!

You all get a preview of Ash's audiobook version of Pegasus 1 this week. We upload Chapter 4 in the midst of discussing our writing and photography plans, we talk about SquareSpace, a scientific approach to guitar work and what it must be like to have to plan for a one way human trip to Mars!

Ash returns to host Polymaths with me this week after my Dad took the challenge last week. We finally sit down with our guitars and Ash bangs out riff after riff, we talk about a change in his writing approach and my photography and wonder what it would be like to direct your own screen play after watching Ex–Machina. And a one way trip to Mars... would you?

Special guest star this week! As Ash is very busy packing up for his house move we struggled to coincide our schedules this week. I took the opportunity to sit down with one of the most influential people in my up bringing and one who was almost solely responsible for my approach, curiosity and attitude towards life and in particular engineering and DIY if you like. Ladies and gentlemen, my Dad.

After a long weekend, where we shoot a little, Ash heads to view a new house and I get ill, we catch up and talk about everything great! Elite: Dangerous is taking Ash's attention at the moment but we discuss the effect that's having on his writing, some photography talk as I want to push my prints to an even larger scale and discuss Pegasus 1 being recorded for Audio release. Oh, and Ash's compound bow STILL hasn't arrived. I'll get mine from Blake before it does! :)

As with the last few episodes, Ash and I head out to shoot a few arrows in the morning sun before heading back for tea and blueberry muffins and record our podcast. This week we reflect on what it's like to work together on something creative, discuss space and sci-fi and ponder whether personal projects apply to both photography and writing in the same way!

Unlucky for some, but we sat down and talked for nearly an hour on subjects we didn't even plan to talk about. Then some archery, creative plans and having 'fuck you' money came into question. Plus listen to an extract from The Martian (all 10 seconds of it) as we discuss audible books.

Wow! One week in to 2015 and we're excited about our goals for this year. This podcast is a long one as we discuss our goals, the evolution of linguistics, some photography and writing and then discuss education and further develop our idea to take goal setting into schools! And Ash is wearing his Christmas slippers :)

2015! So a happy new year to all our listeners. We've had a very intriguing and positively life changing Christmas and new year and we're back on it. Today Ash returns from his Christmas trip to Norfolk and we straight away get into some archery, and discuss a very interesting goal setting process that we were invited into by a entrepreneurial friend. Big Polymath plans for 2015!

Flying solo this week. As it's Christmas, Ash is back home in Norfolk for the Christmas break and I try to verbalise all my challenges for the coming year, which seem to revolve around photography, guitar-ing and archery...ing. It's very odd doing the podcast on my own, and I forgot a lot of things that I wanted to talk about.

We learn to count this week and realise that it's finally episode 9, talk about our new and excitable dip into archery, more about screen writing and our no doubt very naive view on how screen plays are approached and written and I talk a little about my automotive photography. More on this next week as I'm photographing one of my dream cars this coming Saturday!

Episode 8 of our Polymath podcast lands. We get confused and think it's number 9, discuss the Orion space tests, a venture into archery and Ash tells us all about an awesome TV series he has plans to write!

Episode seven arrows its way sharply into your ear! This week we discuss an urge to start archery, Ash finds another inspirational speaker in Bill Gates, more about building custom guitars including where I'm heading with mine, and.. Ash's first novel, Pegasus 1, is released!

A few men from the European Space Agency (ESA) landed a small fridge sized landing craft on a comet last week, but the internet was broken by two other pieces of news instead. That made us rather cross. Do we get offended by people getting offended? Anyway, we ended up getting distracted by computer games :)

Big news this week is we went to see Chris Nolan's Interstellar on X-Plus on Friday. Conversation starts there and then quickly barrels into gibberish, although we do try to talk about Latin, handling and managing projects and human evolution! Episode Four, guys.

As usual we have lots to talk about and end up being distracted. Inspiration, our hindsight on our education and even Arnie's Six Rules that Ash lives by all get brought up and then discussed... at great length. We hope you enjoy this episode and looking forward to next week yet again!

Your second dose of our Polymathic podcast. Ash and myself talk about creativity amongst other things this week, and what he regrets about going into the army. It's definitely good fun and we're throughly enjoying making time for this. We're going to see if we can make it a weekly podcast, released each Tuesday evening!

Regular readers of this blog will no doubt be familiar with my friend Ashley Kalym. We've worked on a lot of projects over the last few years, the latest being some of his published books. His 'bible' of a book, Complete Calisthenics featured my photography throughout and we tend to spend a lot of time outside work just hanging out and chatting about life. A few of our conversations, combined with me going to see Kevin Smith live this year (who constantly urges people to 'just record a podcast; see what happens') have sparked the subject of recording the chatter. Finally, on 21st October 2014, we both managed to sit down with a cup of tea, pop an iPhone on the table in front of us and hit 'Record'!
