The ultimate gauntlet of popular music is upon us once again: it's Grammy season, and this year, the competition is pretty tight across the board. Big ticket A-listers like Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, and Lady Gaga occupy three of the four big categories (Song, Record, and Album of the Year), while folks like Olivia Dean, Lola Young, Leon Thomas, and Addison Rae duke it out in Best New Artist. On this episode of Switched on Pop, Charlie, Nate, and Reanna take a look at the "big four" categories, and stump for their respective frontrunners in order to predict who will be taking home a golden phonograph (or two). Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Michael McKee entered his not guilty plea Friday. Silent. Stoic. His attorney did the talking. And if you want to understand what's coming in this case, you need to understand who that attorney is.Diane Menashe defended Dr. William Husel — the Mount Carmel physician accused of murdering fourteen ICU patients with lethal fentanyl doses. She called one witness. One. Husel walked on all fourteen counts. That's the playbook. That's who McKee hired. The prosecution team includes Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor, who has never tried a felony case in her career. She's third chair behind experienced prosecutors, but the optics are impossible to ignore. The heavyweight versus the newcomer. The doctor-defender versus the property code attorney. This episode goes deep on the legal chess match ahead. We break down Menashe's philosophy — why she believes presenting a defense shifts the burden to prove innocence. We examine what the suppressor allegation means for premeditation charges. And we dig into McKee's pattern of vanishing: fake addresses, expired licenses, process servers who couldn't find him for months before the murders. The evidence police have described sounds substantial. But Diane Menashe has beaten substantial before. The question now is whether she can do it again.#MichaelMcKee #SpencerTepe #MoniqueTepe #HiddenKillers #DianeMenushe #TrueCrimePodcast #ColumbusOhio #DomesticViolenceMurder #WilliamHusel #MountCarmelJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? You should download my free TOOLKIT for new record labels... http://otherrecordlabels.com/toolkit Thanks to LANDR for sponsoring this episode. landr.com/otherrecordlabels Contracts and royalties are where a lot of people get stuck—and for good reason. Record labels have a long history of bad deals, broken trust, and artists getting the short end of the stick. In Episode 7 of How to Start a Record Label This Year, Scott tackles this head-on and explains how modern independent labels can do things differently. This episode walks through the fundamentals of contracts and royalties from a practical, empathetic perspective—without legal jargon and without pretending there's a one-size-fits-all solution. In this episode, you'll learn: Why you do need contracts—and why they protect artists as much as labels When to involve a music attorney (and why templates and AI contracts fall short) Common contract terms artists actually care about (term length, exclusivity, territory) How licensing master recordings works for indie labels Why 50/50 profit sharing has become a modern standard How to structure fair splits while keeping the label sustainable The importance of having these conversations before any music is released Scott emphasizes that the most important part of any contract isn't the paperwork—it's the conversation. Clear expectations, honest communication, and transparency from day one are what turn contracts from something scary into something empowering.

Rob O'Neill is a retired Navy SEAL with more than 400 combat missions, deployments with SEAL Team Two and SEAL Team Six, and participation in some of the most high-profile special operations of the last two decades. He served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and has spent years navigating the complicated transition from service to public life. In this conversation, Rob joins me for an unfiltered, long-form discussion about his career, the brotherhood of the teams, and the personal cost that comes with telling parts of his story publicly. We talk at length about Operation Neptune Spear, the mission to kill Osama bin Laden, and Rob's perspective on how the official debrief differs from his lived experience. Rob explains why he believes portions of the record are incomplete, discusses actions taken by members of the assault force after bin Laden was already dead, and why those details matter to him years later. These are Rob's firsthand accounts and interpretations, shared in full context and without editing for sound bites. We also dig into Rob's ongoing $25 million defamation lawsuit, how it came about, and what it's like to defend your name after a lifetime spent operating in silence. This isn't a hit piece or a hero narrative—it's a three-hour conversation about memory, loyalty, accountability, and what happens when the story doesn't match the mission. Episode 403: Nicholas Melady Jr. was 24 years old when he stepped onto a wooden scaffold above the stone walls of Goderich Gaol in December of 1869, about to become the central figure in Canada's last public hanging after the brutal murders of his father, Nicholas Melady Sr. and stepmother, Ellen, in a quiet Huron County farmhouse. In this episode, we return to a world of bush farms, rough taverns, and bitter family feuds over land and inheritance, tracing a path from a whispered meeting on a bridge and talk of “just a robbery” to a blood‑soaked kitchen floor, sloppy police work, and a coroner making two young men stand barefoot in dried pools of blood. Failure feels heavy because we are taught to see it as an endpoint. Many of us learned early that failure means something is wrong with us. We learned that mistakes close doors and that setbacks are proof we should not try again. But that is not the truth. Failure is often the beginning of a different story. It stretches us in ways success never could. It teaches skill, courage, and patience. It becomes the soil where grit takes root. Most people fear failure because they fear being seen. They fear the silence after disappointment. They fear the comments, the comparisons, and the quiet feeling of not being enough. Yet the people we call successful are rarely the ones who never fell. They are the ones who kept standing up, even when no one was watching, even when the outcome was uncertain, and even when quitting felt safer than hoping again. This is why reframing failure matters. Failure is feedback. It is the voice that says try again with more wisdom. It exposes what we could not see and reveals what we need next. It removes the illusion that perfection is required for progress. And with time, it builds something far more valuable than a clean track record. It builds a resilient heart In this episode, we explore the principles of "failing forward," inspired by John Maxwell's book and shaped by years of real experiences including missed opportunities, hard lessons, delayed wins, and the uncomfortable work of taking responsibility. We redefine its meaning, separate identity from outcome, learn to act before fear takes over, and build persistence when quitting feels easier. If you are building something new, changing direction, leading a team, or simply trying to grow, this conversation offers a mindset shift that removes the shame from failing and restores the purpose in trying. "If you're trying not to fail, you're probably gonna try not to succeed. You have to be willing to fail." - Dr. Derrick Burgess Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction (00:01:43) How society teaches us to fear failure (00:02:26) "Failing Forward" by John Maxwell (00:04:33) Step 1: How achievers view failure (00:06:39) Step 2: Redefining failure (00:07:29) Step 3: Remove you from failure (00:09:01) Step 4: Take action to reduce fear (00:09:37) Step 5: Accepting responsibility for change (00:11:05) Advertisement: Struggling with your finances as a young physician? "If you're focused on not making mistakes, you're probably gonna be limited." "Failure is a price you have to pay to achieve success.""You're not as bad as your worst day and you're not as good as your best day." Love does not keep a record of things done wrong and love believes the best of others. Sandra Unger names how difficult it is to walk in these two aspects of agape love. She names how keeping a record of wrongs undermines love and provides insights into how we can move away from this all-too-common practice.

Dan Haylett gives us a late-starter masterclass on why retirement is a human problem long before it's a math problem. Dan is a UK financial planner, creator of 'Humans vs Retirement' podcast, and author of 'The Retirement You Didn't See Coming'. He walks us through how that outdated 'retire from work and fade away' script clashes with modern 50- and 60-somethings who still have health, curiosity, and huge ambitions. In this episode he also: Reframes risk as the possibility of dying with plenty of money but too few memories Unpacks why spreadsheets never quite make us feel safe Lays out his three-phase map of the second half of life DEALS & DISCOUNTS FROM OUR TRUSTED PARTNERS: MONARCH MONEY The modern way to manage money! I start the episode riding high off a homemade sandwich and the confidence only Martin's BBQ chips can give a man. From there, I immediately make a series of adult financial decisions I should not be allowed to make. I lock down a signed Jake Paul Pop Century card, talk myself into wearing it as a necklace, and openly admit I need my phone taken away before Facebook Marketplace and TikTok live sales ruin my life. This is what happens when you give someone adult money and internet access. Then we get into the storm. The storm of the century. The storm with a PR team. Winter Storm Fern. According to the internet, Pennsylvania is getting anywhere from one inch to ninety eight inches of snow, trees are exploding in Canada, and grocery stores are out of everything except Dasani. I break down the panic, the fake urgency, and the group hysteria while delivering the only six winter survival tips you will ever need. These tips are foolproof, medically questionable, and absolutely not approved by anyone with credentials. From there, we spiral into Soulja Boy's fashion empire, influencer politicians, and the idea of Farrah Abraham becoming the mayor of Texas. I question who is buying Soulja Boy shoes with his face on them, wonder how much money it would take to ruin my public reputation with a full outfit, and seriously consider a future where podcasts replace government. None of this feels fake anymore and that part is concerning.I wrap things up with a rapid fire run through Mission Impossible logic, why the mission is always possible, why the bad guy is usually HR, and why face masks solve every problem. I also shout out the return of Recap and Record with Los, where we are breaking down HBO's The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms every week. New episodes. New chaos. Same energy.Hit play. Hit subscribe. Post your snow pictures.Episode 220 is live.
