Family story उपेन्द्र नाथ अश्क ने सामान्यत: सामाजिक विषयों को अपने एकांकियों का आधर बनाया है। इस एकांकी में एकल परिवार की अपेक्षा संयुक्त परिवार को श्रेष्ठ ठहराया गया है। इन्हीं दो जीवन आदर्शों के बीच के द्वंद्व से एकांकी को विस्तार मिलता है। बेला एकल परिवार की हिमायती है और दादा संयुक्त परिवार के, लेकिन दादा अपने आदर्श को उस पर थोपते नहीं हैं बलिक पारिवारिक परिस्थितयो को नियंत्रित करके उसे संयुक्त परिवार का महत्त्व समझाते हैं। दादा के माध्यम से लेखक एकांकी के उद्देश्य को भी स्पष्ट करता है। दादा अपने बेटे कर्मचंद को संबोधित करते हुए कहते हैं कि, ''मैं कहा करता हूँ न बेटा कि एक बार वृक्ष से जो डाली टूट गर्इ, उसे लाख पानी दो, उसमें वह सरसता न आएगी और हमारा यह परिवार बरगद के इस महान पेड़ की ही भाँति है... अत: प्रस्तुत एकांकी में लेखक ने संयुक्त परिवार के महत्त्व का प्रतिपादन किया है। Connect @ quickandsmart14@gmail.com
