A catch-all Friday! Tops on the list for the day: the continued destruction at the White House. HuffPost documents the donors who thought they were signing up for ballroom construction, only to find out Trump was saddling them with East Wing demolition, instead. Next up: We've always been at trade war with Canada! Or at least, we are now. Again. Because something, something, Ronald Reagan. Speaking of which, “something, something, Ronald Reagan.” Third: Trump says he has no intention of asking Congress to authorize his Caribbean (and now Pacific) strikes. Even though it would give the tacti-cool set lots of lingo and jargon to toss about. Israeli hard-liners are talking about annexing the West Bank, now. JD Vance makes it about him. Happy Diwali! MAGA makes that about Kash Patel. Ronny Jackson is so dumb, not even Matthew Kacsmaryk can save his “case!” Neither can anyone save the MAGA “cases” of supposed “left-wing violence.” The right has never learned—and never had to learn—the lesson of The Case of the Backwards B. New bootstrapping theory dropped! The “reason” Trump thinks he's entitled to reparations from the DOJ is that they should have foreseen in 2022 that in 2024, SCOTUS would invent a new theory of “presidential immunity,” and that he would totally have been entitled to it. Heading out to vote early in Virginia? Do you feel like you need some context on Jay Jones? Or nah?
Church of England Revs with a difference Tom Pelham and Jamie Franklin sit down to talk about the big stories in church and state. This time: the Archbishop of York wishes everyone a Happy Diwali; Cathedral graffiti in Canterbury; the end of the Living in Love and Faith Process?; a split in the Global Anglican Communion; and much more as ever. Happy Diwali and Bandi Chorr Divas! ✨We are trying something new on the podcast this week and doing a South Asian holiday deep dive and breaking down why different religions like Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chorr Divas. Growing up in the UK, unfortunately all these festivals are sometimes bucketed into one celebration when each community celebrates for a slightly different reason. I find it really interesting to learn more about different cultures and hopefully you find it interesting too. So today we are learning more about Diwali and Bandi Chorr Divas! If you are celebrating, wishing you loads of love and light

"Imagine Diwali not just as a festival, but as a journey—a cosmic dance of light and darkness that resonates through generations. In this podcast, our students take you beyond the usual celebrations, exploring Diwali as a story of creation, transformation, and endless possibility. What if each diya represents a universe, each spark a dream? Tune in as we unravel the mystical layers of Diwali, revealing a celebration that transcends time, space, and imagination itself."
Periodically on TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT I'm DOING , we share a SPOTLIGHT conversation and feature brief chats with an individual from the community about a special topic or a unique endeavor. And I guess there is no more celebrated or more special a topic than Diwali. It's a centering feeling of home for so many, and as a growing global spotlight shines brightly on this lit up tradition, there remain great opportunities to help support more excitement and meet an eager curiosity. In a way, as equally fulfilling and festive as it is to recognize and celebrate Diwali just because you and your family and your neighbors and your community have always done so, there also needs to be great simplicity and understanding for those who are just getting to know Diwali and its significance or those who are refreshing or reaquainting themselves or even those who are hoping to to help create new Diwali traditions. Thankfully, entrepre neur and author Chhavi Bhargava has written a new book called “A Kids Book About Diwali” to help start and continue these conversations. Chhavi is an Indian American, and was an elementary school teacher in Canada for over a decade. Her deep experiences in building curriculum, especially organizing learners around diversity and inclusion, informed her to write a book about Diwali, to showcase the timeless Hindu festival as an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming experience for everyone. As more and more school districts in the United States are observing Diwali, A Kids Book About Diwali may serve as an entry point for more open discussions among neighbors, teachers, and administrators to not just learn more about Diwali, but about respectful curiosity and empathy for our differences. Chhavi and I caught up recently to chat about the book and I started by asking her particularly about that centering feeling of “home”The book is available everywhere and please visit bookaboutdiwali.com for more. Shubha Dipaavali and a peaceful, healthy, and Happy Diwali to everyone. Till next time, I'm Abhay Dandekar

Firstly, a very Happy Diwali to everyone. Indian couples are increasingly embracing In Vitro Fertilization, often the last hope for having a baby. While it is a boon for millions of new parents, it is also a painful and demanding process on women. India has placed a multi-billion dollar order on new planes in recent times. Also, what do airlines do to save costs? According to one study by the University of Chigago, life of those who live in Delhi has been shortened by ten years due to air pollution. What could we do about it? And India continues its stellar run at the ICC World Cup.
