Today, I am sitting down with Zahyia Rolle, a songwriter, lyricist, producer, and creative visionary who has dedicated her life to existing in spaces that elevate and change the limited narratives, images, and awareness of what it means to exist as a black American woman. With her eclectic background in jazz, hip-hop, R&B, lo-fi, musical theatre, and funk and soul, Zahyia finds ways to push traditional boundaries in the world of music and alternative RB. The COVID crisis of 2020 has catapulted her on a new journey of sound and spirit as she captures and transports us to a higher spiritual vibration. In this episode, we discuss: ● The stigma of COVID in black communities. ● Dealing with depression and nervous breakdowns. ● Going through therapy and advice for those in a dark place. ● Opening yourself to feelings to create your best work. ● Channeling struggles into artistic practices. ● Writing and recording new music and getting back to playing live shows.
