Stephanie Pianades went into Massachusetts family court looking for help. That was it. One little thing. She went in looking for one help with one little thing, and it snowballed into a monumental challenge that altered her life and the life of her 10-year-old daughter, and as she says, "it will never go back to the way it was." This interview is a cautionary tale about Family Court Abuse, Parental Alienation, DARVO, and Post-separation Abuse. It's not easy to digest but extremely important for parents. We make assumptions about the court system, the main one being that it will protect our children or us. The dark truth is that this is not the case. The family court system is broken. Learn the steps to take to prevent court abuse and parental alienation. The first step is finding vetted attorneys who understand the dynamics of narcissistic abuse and how they can weaponize the court system against the other parent. Tonight's special guest is Melanie Blow from Rochester, New York. As a survivor of incest, psychological abuse and a host of other childhood trauma, Melanie is the Executive Director of the Stop Abuse Campaign. The mission at the Stop Abuse Campaign is to prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through public education and public policy. The ACE study looks at three categories of adverse experience: childhood abuse, which included emotional, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse; neglect, including both physical and emotional neglect; and household challenges, which included growing up in a household where there was substance abuse, mental illness, violent treatment of a mother or stepmother, parental separation/divorce or had an incarcerated household member. Respondents earn an ACE score between 0 and 10 based on how many of the 10 types one reports experiencing. Melanie has over two decades of legislative advocacy regarding children's issues. The Stop Abuse Campaign web site says that keeping these educational and advocacy campaigns running requires 'partnering with the best academic minds to turn great solutions into pilot programs and public policies. It requires delivering advocacy training programs and empowering the dedicated organizations that are working to protect children in local communities.' Melanie has been published in newspapers, magazines and blogs all across the country. She served with the Rochester Regional Coalition Against Human Trafficking, The Downstate Crime Victims Coalition Legislative Advocacy team and with Prevent Child Abuse, NY.

KAYDEN’S LAW: EFFORTS TO STOP CUSTODY DECISION DEATHS Seven-year-old Kayden died at her father’s hands because a judge disregarded the father’s threats of violence against her mother. As is the case too many times, the justice system failed this child because the judge created a false equivalency between parents, one of whom was violent. And Kayden paid the price of that. So where is the uproar and public demand that the legal system get smarter? Efforts in Pennsylvania are centered around Kayden’s Law- proposed legislation that would prohibit custody decisions likely to lead to tragic outcomes like Kayden’s. Melanie Blow, with the Stop Abuse Campaign, joins us to explain what Kayden’s Law would mean, how it will improve custody decisions, and how similar efforts are going on all around the country. Airing for the first time, Saturday, December 28, at 11 AM Pacific Time, and available thereafter through the archive at www.blogtalkradio.com/3women3ways.

Tonight's special guest is Margaret (Peggy) Hoffman from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, is an activist and survivor of a toxic family and domestic abuse. Peggy's Native American family suffered multi-generational government oppression and systemic abuses that contributed to growing up in a dysfunctional environment. Her mother had poor health and, after her father took his own life when she was 10, Peggy was raised by multiple family members who were ‘enablers' of abuse. Peggy learned early on about family secrets of incest. Before her current marriage of 22 years, Peggy divorced her first husband after a decade of domestic violence. In 2016, while Peggy's daughter was in the middle of a custody battle, Peggy's 5 yr. old granddaughter disclosed sexual abuse by the father. Although Peggy's daughter did the right things by reporting the abuse to police and a trauma therapist, the courts ultimately disbelieved the allegations, granting custody to the abusive father where her granddaughter still resides today. Peggy says, "Children are the least protected when it comes to sexual abuse.” This systemic failure to protect children who disclose fueled Peggy to dedicate herself to policy reform. She has spent over 1000 hours in training courses and is working as the Pennsylvania director of the Stop Abuse Campaign. She partners with legislators to pass the Safe Child Act and other legislation for family court reform and accountability for legal professionals. According to Peggy, her story has been repeated in about 2.8 percent of custody cases nationwide, with over 7,000 children in Pennsylvania alone ordered into contact or custody of their abuser because of a failing system. Peggy invites listeners to contact her.

Would you be surprised to know that there is no law that says a judge must make a kid's health and safety the first priority when determining custody in a divorce? Every day judges decide where a child will live when the parents divorce. Often they get it wrong, with disastrous results, and those children may be forced to live with someone who has abused or even seuxally assaulted them. Because judges, guardians ad litem, psychologists and other advisors to the courts, don't get it or think the protective parent is lying. It's a tragedy that leaved kids in horrible situations and can set them up for life-long repercussions. The Safe Child Act could change that. Andrew Willis, founder of the Stop Abuse Campaign, and Barry Goldstein, nationally recognized domestic violence author, speaker and advocate, will discuss the Safe Child Act, being considered in several state legislatures as a requirement for child custody decisions. Join us as we talk about how this act could help protective parents, dependent children and the social justice system.

All children should be empowered with the language to protect themselves,” says Anne. Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Andrew Willis from New York City. Mr Willis is from the Stop Abuse Campaign, StopAbuseCampaign.com, working collaboratively with NPEIV to eradicate abuse from America before 2036. They see their role as educating and enabling a popular, grassroots movement to stop abuse as well as igniting conversations about abuse so that people start talking and sharing and becoming more involved as a community. They invite everyone to take their PLEDGE. As the web site states, " It's going to take all of us working together as an organized and popular, grassroots movement to affect the necessary changes in law and societal attitudes concerning abuse – by education, activism, and funding." The Stop Abuse Campaign's primary strategies to stop abuse are: (1) Educate all adults on how to create safe environments for themselves and those that they love. (2) Provide easy access to enhanced mental health treatment to all survivors who need it. (3) Ensure all abuse is reported into the system and effectively handled. (4) Recruit America's adults to the movement to stop abuse.
