How do we tell the stories of those who have been diminished or ignored in the writing of history? How do we do justice to the lives they lived, or to the people they were? How does where we come from connect to where we are headed?  These are some of the questions put forward in a new anthology by LIMINAL, an anti-racist literary and art platform based in Naarm. A collection from the longlist of the Liminal and Pantera Press Nonfiction Prize, the book is titled, Against Disappearance. The essays on memory are a powerful collection of First Nations and People of Colour questioning the past and envisioning new futures - free from any shallow or singular story. Hear from editors Leah Jing McIntosh and Adolfo Aranjuez earlier this week on the importance of bringing together these works, fighting against the forced disappearance of cultures in so-called Australia through subversive and experimental writing and thinking. Catch them at the book launch on November 1st, details here. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Frank Murphy is joined by Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. Frank bought rechargeable batteries at the suggestion of Erik Dobell. He got some no-name batteries that came in a plain wrapper from Amazon.  Frank, his wife Jere, and Dr. Frank Jr. PhD went to the Dexter Cider Mill in Michigan. They bought some McIntosh apples, ginger snap cookie mix, apple cider doughnuts, fresh cider, and hard cider. The doughnuts are made with apple cider syrup. The taste reminded Frank and Jere of Crutchley Crullers, which used to be sold in the Hamptons.  Frank and Dr. Frank Jr. PhD opened two different flavors of hard cider but were surprised how much was in the bottle. Frank brought back two 500ml bottles of hard cider to share with Kathryn. They will drink the traditional hard cider today and save the bourbon barrel cider for another day.  Frank and Jere bought new vitamin organizers for the trip. His friend Kumi urged him to take vitamin C, vitamin D, melatonin, and zinc every day. Frank got concerned because he forgot to take his nightly vitamins and zinc one night. He got a scratchy throat the next day but now thinks it was an allergy to mold.  Frank also takes some immunity boosting gummies each day. Water leaked into the container with his Airborne and elderberry gummies, partly dissolving them. Kathryn accurately guessed that Frank drank the melted gummies.  Speaking of gummies, Jere bought some “Michi-gummies” as a gift for the Rocket Brothers. Kathryn thinks the Michigan-shaped gummies look like slightly misfored animal shapes. Kathryn and her husband James once went apple-picking in Michigan.  There were picnic tables overlooking the Huron River behind the cider mill. There were a lot of wasps trying to get to the cider and doughnuts. Frank ate his doughnut while standing on a picnic table to be near the huge kitchen exhaust fan. The exhaust blew the wasps away from Frank.  Frank arranged to meet his friend Bean at a Cracker Barrel halfway between Crossville and Knoxville. Frank told the hostess that he was there to meet a tall guy. When Bean walked in, she asked if he was there to meet the short guy.  Bean has been doing his podcast from his wife's bathroom. Frank wonders why he didn't use his own bathroom.  Frank has an idea for fake Airpods. They would allow you to ignore people because you're pretending to be listening to something important.  Kathryn and her husband had an encounter with a woman at Jason's Deli who accused James of stealing her free ice cream. Kathryn saw her again a few days later at the church where Opéra Louisiane has its offices.  This episode is sponsored by Audible. Do you know what you're made for? Today's guest, Dr. Bryan McIntosh, helps us address the question of why we're here.   A native of Dalton, GA, Bryan McIntosh is a graduate of Duke University, later receiving his M.Div. from CIU and a Ph.D. in New Testament from Southern Seminary.    Understanding who God is, who we are in Him, and what His plan is for us sets us apart as believers. We discuss the shift from centering our purpose solely upon ourselves and what we can achieve to including the Lord's role as central in fulfilling why we are here.  Bryan shares his personal journey of seeking purpose post-graduation and cites Old and New Testament examples. He emphasizes God's consistent nature as faithful in fulfilling His promises. Dr. McIntosh recommends a message by Louie Giglio called "Finding Me in the Story of Thee." He notes the struggle many face when centering who we are in what we do instead of basing our identity on who we are in relationship with Christ. McIntosh states that our Creator is the only one who can accurately define who we are meant to be and the purpose for which we were made. Dr. McIntosh explains that unless we center our story in the Lord,  nothing will make any sense. We discuss the relational nature of faith in a loving Redeemer.  Bryan explores the correlation between purpose and relationship with God. Empowerment and direction flow from connection with the Lord.  McIntosh explains we all have a specific reason for which we were created.  He defines calling as much deeper than vocation. Bryan shares how he was ordained for ministry, but found his mission redirected from the pulpit to the business world. His overarching call did not depend upon a specific career placement. We discuss the greater importance of who we are and how we represent Christ. Our role as ambassadors transcends the titles and jobs under which we serve. Dr. Bryan McIntosh offers the following tips to discover and live out our purpose: Know your identity as defined in Scripture.  Accept your identity as a "new creation." Walk in the "good works" God prepared for us, as promised in Ephesians 2:10 Recognize the Lord provides what we need to live out our purpose Let go of shame, regret, unforgiveness of ourselves and others, and all the negatives which might hold us back We discuss how we each have a unique purpose which works in concert with the gifts of others around us. We also acknowledge the role of faith in stepping forward to fulfill our destiny when we cannot see the entire path ahead. Bryan recommends staying in the Word and seeking counsel from wise believers. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing God is for us and His character is good. Daily reminding ourselves of those truths will help us overcome fear and discouragement.  McIntosh recommends seeking the Lord daily to avoid the traps of distraction.  Connect with Bryan McIntosh at madeforeden.org and get a copy of his book, Made for Eden, wherever books are sold. Deciphering Solar Magnetic Activity: The Solar Hale Cycle Terminator of 2021 by Scott W McIntosh et al. on Thursday 22 September McIntosh and colleagues identified an event in the solar timeline that appeared to play a role in how Sunspot Cycle 23 (SC23) transitioned into Sunspot Cycle 24 (SC24). The timeframe for this transition was rapid, taking place in as short as time as a solar rotation. M2014 inferred that the transition observed was a critical episode for the Sun's global-scale magnetic field that was being manifest in the spatially and temporally overlapping and magnetic systems belonging to the Sun's 22-year (Hale) magnetic cycle. These events have been dubbed as Hale Cycle terminations, or `terminators' for short. Further exploration revealed a relationship between terminator separation (as a measure of overlap in the Hale Cycles) and the upcoming sunspot cycle amplitude. McIntosh and colleagues extrapolated upon this relationship to identify the termination of the SC24 carrying Hale Cycle band in Mid-2020 and inferred that this would result in a very large Sunspot Cycle 25 (SC25). This paper presents observational analysis of the end of SC24 and the initial months of SC25 growth following a terminator that occurred in mid-December 2021 (approximately 12/13/2021). We use the December 2021 terminator to finalize the forecast of SC25 amplitude 184 ($pm$17 with 95% confidence, and $pm$63 with 68% confidence). Finally, we use other terminator-related superposed epoch analyses to project the timing of SC25 maxima in late 2023 to mid 2024. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.10577v1

“I'm not enough” is an interesting lie we tell ourselves because it's not totally untrue. We do fall short of being enough because we are sinful. Yet, God's Son Jesus is enough and redeems us from our sin to make us whole – to make us enough. Isaiah's call from God is a beautiful picture of how God makes people enough.

In this video, our host Jonathan Aymin welcomes Renee Roberts & Marc McIntosh to the show to discuss how to better qualify your leads, how to determine what is working so you can do more of that and why there is no shortcuts to success when it comes to your venue business. About Our Guests: Renee and Marc are the owners of Team Wedding Marketing a full-service marketing agency specifically focused on the wedding industry. Both of them have spent their entire careers in the wedding industry, and in 2020 they shifted focus to helping wedding pros create marketing that is as awesome as they are. Renee Roberts began her career in the wedding industry as the owner of a floral, décor, planning, and tuxedo rental business that grew from a home based business to a large retail storefront. She went on to produce the Best Wedding Showcase, the largest and longest running wedding planning events in the Central Pennsylvania region. Marc McIntosh has worked his entire career in the wedding industry, first as the owner of a wedding-specific DJ service, then as producer of the largest wedding planning events in the Mid-Atlantic region. As a nationally recognized speaker, writer, and marketing expert, he has shared his knowledge with wedding professionals worldwide. Although they provide comprehensive marketing services for wedding venues, the primary reason for the appearance on the VRX podcast is to talk about Wedding Venue Success, a program they developed specifically for venues. They have developed a strategic plan that any venue can use to increase the number of qualified prospects who visit their venue for a tour. The best part of the strategy is that it provides this benefit without spending more money on advertising. What's the big secret? They show venues how to produce their own in-house Wedding Planning Events. When done the right way, these events (sometimes called wedding shows, open houses, etc.) attract qualified engaged couples to the venue. By inviting other local wedding professionals to participate by purchasing exhibit space, this covers the entire cost of producing and promoting the event. Of course, a lot of venues have tried producing these sorts of events, but most of them fail to attract couples who still need a venue. Even if the event is well attended, quite often the venue sees no direct benefit. Their program is a comprehensive course that teaches venues everything they need to know about planning, selling, marketing, and producing these events. The course includes video segments, workbooks, a bi-weekly group zoom meeting, and one-on-one coaching (a complete list of benefits is HERE).
