Dr. Georgiann Davis shares her story with us about how she learned that she has an intersex trait and how this revelation set her on the unexpected path to becoming an intersex scholar and activist. We explore with Georgiann the influence of science and technology on how we understand and treat bodies with regards to sex characteristics, gender and sexual identities, and the key issue of consent in intersex surgeries. The interview was conducted by Dylan Paré and Dr. Pratim Sengupta at the University of Calgary's Werklund School of Education. In this episode, we continue to explore the relationship between art and technology. We hear from Weston Sandberg, a musician and an elementary school teacher with the Calgary Board of Education, and Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Research Chair in STEM Education at the University of Calgary. Weston and Pratim collaborated on a project that breaks boundaries of coding and art - their work together explores making music with code… and making code for music.

After a career in engineering, Ryan has decided to become a science teacher. In this episode, Ryan tells us his story of "finding" science and engineering in the dull hallways of the university. Staring from the hallways through the windows of the labs, Ryan sees the work of engineers and scientists, and discovers engineering and science as his pathway.

Trisha tells us her story of finding science in the form of hearing and listening to the voices on the other side of the wall. Her story reminds us of the difference that we can make when we take a moment from our being scientists, and help a student walk along the way with us. Trisha's desire to be a teacher is rooted in her experience of being helped along the way by others through the "maze" of science.

The poetry of Derek Beaulieu, an eminent poet and visual artist who is also the inaugural Poet Laureate of the City of Calgary (2014 - 2016), challenges what we know about how we know and learn. In this episode, Derek sits down in our lab (www.m3lab.org), creates a new work of non-representational visual poetry and discusses with Alycia Wilson and Dr. Pratim Sengupta what his work can tell us about technology and meaning. In “Empathy and Science,” Alycia Wilson, a pre-service science teacher. recaptures the childhood discovery of her first love, the Pacific coast of North America. Her newer love, science education, was uncovered after the heartbreak of witnessing an oil spill.
