When “Just Disagreeing” Becomes Dangerous

“We can disagree and still love each other” is often framed as maturity or respect — but what happens when that disagreement puts real people at risk? In this episode, we confront how “just disagreeing” about LGBTQ+ lives, identities, and inclusion stops being neutral and starts becoming dangerous. We examine the real-world consequences of polite harm, the myth of neutrality, and the cost of silence when injustice is dressed up as belief or civility. This is a call to move beyond comfort and into responsibility — for families, allies, and anyone who claims to love LGBTQ+ people.Because love that refuses to protect is not love at all.Send us a private message. *Note: INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if you'd like us to answer. :-) Support the show

Tomás Bogardus joins to discuss his book "The Nature of the Sexes" and argues for a reproductive-functional account of biological sex. According to Bogardus, males and females are defined by the reproductive function their bodies are structured to perform: producing sperm or eggs. Even when that function is not realized and no sperm or eggs are produced, a person's sex remains the same, because it is grounded in biological organization. To defend this view, Bogardus considers intersex and DSD cases, critiques contextualist accounts that treat sex as domain-dependent, and argues for a unified meaning of “male” and “female.” The conversation later turns to whether sex is essential or changeable, as well as debates about pronouns, sports, and medical interventions for minors.[00:00] Introduction to the Debate on Sex[00:23] The Delivery Room Thought Experiment: "It's a Boy/Girl"[02:04] Sex as Reproductive Function[07:41 ]Gametes, Competitor Theories, and the Non-Producers Objection[11:29] Intersex & DSD Cases[19:23] Contextualism and Cluster Concepts: Sex in Sports, Bathrooms, Dating?[26:23] Conjunction Reduction & Animal Examples: Rooster vs Crocodile[30:24] One Unified Meaning of Sex Terms[32:06] Are ‘Man' and ‘Woman' Social Roles or Biological Sexes?[37:15] Is Sex Essential or Contingent? Bill protecting intersex children from unnecessary medical, interventions that has just been passed by the Vic lower house The Victorian Government's Bill protecting intersex children from unnecessary and irreversible medical procedures without their consent has passed in the lower house. Intersex people are born with innate variations of sex characteristics that don't fit medical norms for female or male bodies. As the intersex community has grown more visible, we have learned how common unnecessary and irreversible surgeries are to individuals, particularly those who are too young to consent. It is believed that about 1.7 per cent of the population is born with an intersex trait. There are at least 40 known intersex variations. In October 2021, the Australian Human Rights Commission urged all Australian governments to implement measures that prevent harmful medical interventions on intersex people without personal consent.   In August 2025, the Australian Medical Association passed a motion calling for a deferral of surgical interventions for intersex people until they can give consent. The Health Safeguards for People Born with Variations in Sex Characteristics Bill 2025 passed the lower house without opposition on Thursday. The Bill prohibits deferrable medical interventions until a child can decide for themselves that they want that, introducing independent oversight of proposed treatment plans. The passing of the bill reflects decades of tireless advocacy by intersex people and community organisations, building on similar protections introduced in the ACT in 2023. https://qnews.com.au/intersex-reform-for-childrens-medical-interventions-passes-vic-lower-house/ The post Sat, 14th, Feb, 2026: Nina Taylor, Labor MP, Albert Park, Intersex Medical Intervention Reform for Children Passes Vic Lower House appeared first on Saturday Magazine.

This is a vulnerable episode for me to share, but it was very important to me to record and release this episode because it highlights something I don't think we see enough: people in positions of power, privilege or leadership openly receiving feedback. Janie Ganga is a yoga teacher I deeply admire and have worked closely with for nearly a decade. In May of this year, they reached out to tell me something I had posted on social media had upset and hurt them. (Here is the reel that started it all.) We've had several conversations about the situation since, and this episode is the culmination and public sharing of how we worked through that.  Please listen, share it widely, and let us know how it lands with you. Janie Ganga (she/they) is an E-RYT 500 Yoga Teacher, social justice activist, and co-owner of Santosha Yoga, an online studio rooted in the Providence, RI community. Certified in I AM Yoga since 2013, Ganga specializes in Private Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Let Your Yoga Dance, and is completing certification as a Yoga Therapist. Beyond the mat, Janie has organized queer community events for years – creating queer friendly femme-centered spaces in Boston with madFemmePride and co-leading the 2006 Transcending Boundaries Conference, which brought together activists for Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex, Polyamorous, and Kink Rights. As a Professional Member of ASDAH (Association for Size Diversity and Health), Janie is guided by Health at Every Size and is passionate about making yoga accessible to all bodies and identities. Anne Lamott's son “called on” his mom after a transphobic tweet - Janie stumbled on this story after she questioned a colleague about sharing a Lamott's quote. Ganga discovered Lamott had publicly apologized, though the apology received little attention compared to the initial harm. Public Enemies, Private Friends - recommended by Janie's friend Marshall Miller, this documentary highlights dialogue between pro-choice and pro-life leaders in 1990s Boston. Accessible Yoga Podcast - hearing Jivana Heyman speak about his own activism and yoga inspired Janie to share her own perspective more openly. Ganga is deeply grateful to the colleagues and friends who supported their growth, including Stacy, Jyotika, Padma, Megha, her Anti-Racism for White Yoga Teachers book club, and all her students. Simply Put: The Bible Does NOT Condemn Homosexuality!

Actually, it is NOT complicated, or confusing, or nuanced. It is really simple. The Bible IS clear: There is NO condemnation against people who are LGBTQ+ or against same-sex relationships. You are NOT the ones who need to defend your beliefs. The non-affirming church is. They ignore the truth of Scripture, and they ignore the devastating, deadly impact of their false teachings.  In this encore presentation of one of our most popular episodes, we give you a clear, simple explanation of why the Bible does NOT condemnation homosexuality.  Send us a private message. *Note: INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if you'd like us to answer. :-) Support the show

What does and does not work when talking to evangelical Christians about LGBTQ issues? It can certainly be tough and frustrating. We are dealing with patriarchal, moral-majority driven false teaching. All taught with God's name attached to it – and grave consequences if you don't just fall in line. But we, like a growing number of people, were surprised when we opened that box we had God in. In this encore presentation, we talk about truly effective ways to change the hearts and minds of non-affirming Christians.Send us a private message. *Note: INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if you'd like us to answer. :-) Support the show

Normalizing Non-Monogamy - Interviews in Polyamory and Swinging

Marla has been exploring and practicing non-monogamy for about 20 years after learning about it during their first year of college. After getting out of their last monogamous relationship early in their college experience, Marla fell in love with their best friend and never really looked back. Like many of us, they were kind of making it up as they went and figuring it out along the way. Today we have a fantastic conversation with Marla about their journey, their struggles and triumphs, as well as the wisdom they've earned along the way. We dig into the reality of being an imperfect human, the importance of relationship repair, queer-platonic partnerships, and everyone's favorite topic... Hierarchy! More about Marla from their website: www.polyamarla.com Marla (they/them pronouns) is a relationship therapist and educator specializing in non-monogamy and *2SLGBTQIA+ identities. They have been practicing polyamory since 2005, and facilitating programs on the subject since 2009. (*2Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and beyond) Like you, they are a fabulous and sometimes messy human being. As a member of so many of the communities they support, Marla takes accountability when they've made mistakes, and doesn't shy away from challenging conversations. Their goal is to provide support and education for people who want to understand or practice non-monogamy. They advocate for the health of non-monogamous communities by offering services to people within, and adjacent to those communities. But what happens when a baby is born with intersex traits—and how can birth workers and clinicians respond with compassion, accuracy, and care? In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker speaks with Niki Khanna, MA, MFT, and Dr. Catherine Clune-Taylor, co-presidents of InterACT, about how to support families when a baby's physical sex characteristics don't fit binary expectations. Together, they explore how often this occurs, what parents are typically told in the hospital, and why rushed decisions about infant genital surgery can cause lasting harm.
