An assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner turned what is usually a choreographed, slightly self-congratulatory night into something much more serious, very quickly. I had been at the Washington Hilton earlier, and what stood out in retrospect was how ordinary the setup felt. Security was clearly tight around the ballroom itself, but the rest of the hotel operated like a normal venue, with people moving in and out of the lobby without much friction. That gap matters, because it helps explain how someone armed could even get close enough to force a response from Secret Service. He never reached the inner event, but the fact that he got as far as he did cuts through the illusion that these environments are fully locked down. It's tough to dismiss this as a one-off. The rhetoric outside the event was already intense, with protesters framing politics in absolute, existential terms. When that becomes the baseline, it is not surprising that someone eventually acts on it. This is not the first attempt tied to Trump, and unfortunately, it wouldn't surprise me if it weren't the last. Even if the immediate danger was contained, the pattern itself is the more unsettling part, because it suggests a level of volatility that is not going away anytime soon.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.I left before everything happened and walked over to the Substack party, which ended up being chaotic in a completely different way. Because of the lockdown around the Hilton, a lot of people never made it over, so the party had this strange half full energy. Plenty of space, plenty of chatter, but also the sense that something had already gone off script for the night. That mood did not last long, because it quickly turned into its own kind of spectacle when Michael Tracy confronted Julie K. Brown over claims about Epstein related reporting. What followed felt less like a serious dispute and more like a live action version of internet drama. Voices went up, Jim Acosta jumped in loudly, and suddenly a party conversation turned into a full scene with security stepping in. Tracy was eventually asked to leave, and that was that. Compared to what had just happened across town, it was trivial, but it also captured something real about the media world, where personal grudges and public arguments can spill over at any moment. Taken together, the night swung between genuinely dangerous and strangely ridiculous, which feels like a pretty accurate snapshot of the current political environment.Chapters00:00 - Intro01:23 - Trump Assassination Attempt06:29 - Substack Party This is a public episode. In April 2001, first responders were called to the scene of an explosion and house fire at the Fisher family home in Scottsdale, Arizona. But as investigators started piecing together what happened, it became clear they were dealing with a lot than property damage or arson. It was a triple homicide sparking one of the largest manhunts in the history of Arizona. Robert William Fisher is wanted for allegedly killing his wife and two children and then blowing up the house in which they all lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, on April 10, 2001. He is a white, 6' tall, weighs approximately 190lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has surgical scars on his back. As of this recording, he would be 65 years old. Fisher is physically fit and is an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman. He has a noticeable gold crown on his upper left first bicuspid tooth. He may walk with an exaggerated erect posture and his chest pushed out due to a lower back injury. Fisher is known to chew tobacco heavily. He has ties to New Mexico and Florida. Fisher is believed to be in possession of several weapons, including a high-powered rifle and is considered to be extremely dangerous. This week we have decided to look at what happens when wokeness takes over. Voices are lost and the truth is lost. When the National Concert Hall in Ireland cancelled our planned performance of the OCTOBER 7 play, they didn't just cancel our work, they cancelled real Israeli voices. This week we bring you one such voice. Rachel Goldberg-Polin is the mother of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was murdered while in captivity after being abducted by Hamas at the Nova music festival. She gave an amazing interview about his life and death and we play an excerpt and you will also hear from his aunt Abby Polin, who has seen the play several times and spoke at many of the performances. These voices must be heard. Israeli voices from Oct 7 must be heard in Ireland and we will make sure it happens. Watch this space.Of course not all voices are equal. We have been on the Megyn Kelly show in the past but she has gone down the Tucker Carlson/Candace Owens retard rabbit hole. We show how astute observers could have seen this coming. We reveal how for Megyn it's always about chasing an audience and a check. And talking about terrible people. California Governor Gavin Newsom is very proud that his memoir is a New York Times bestseller. But did you know he faked the numbers? We reveal how.Can you believe the Democrats want to run him for President? From the terrible to the sublime - please listen to the podcast to hear an Artemis II astronaut realize his atheism just doesn't explain what he has witnessed in the heavens. And sorry to end on this but we also reveal how leftists believe that being offended by body odour is a sign you are right wing. I mean I know leftists didn't like to shower but this is ridiculous. As we said earlier we are determined to bring OCTOBER 7 the play to Ireland but we need your help. This is a 1-hour sound bath built around bright, layered tones, soft vocal textures, and wind.Something a little lighter than usual.A little less grounded.More like sound you can just… drift inside of.There's a short guided intro at the beginning so I could upload this here as a podcast. If you'd rather skip that, you can jump ahead a bit and go straight into the sound. You don't need to do anything with this.Just let it play…and let your system settle around it.The tones are steady, the wind moves through it, and over time things tend to soften on their own.Use this for:• sleep• relaxation• meditation• or just sitting with something that doesn't ask anything from youMore sound baths from the past year are on the way.If this helps even a little, feel free to follow. It makes more of a difference than you'd think.Discord: https://discord.gg/dXKjhZrZmMTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@idiotmysticInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/idiotmysticThere's also writing at https://idiotmystic.com — I'm always adjusting and adding to it over time.I'm glad you're here.

Tonight's episode features two chilling hauntings that blur the line between reality and something far more sinister…In the first story, we travel to the quiet hills of Slanesville, West Virginia — where a family believed they had found their dream farmhouse. But not long after moving in, something began watching them… something they would come to call “the Bad Man.” What started as an uneasy feeling quickly turned into a full-blown nightmare, as the presence inside the home grew stronger, more aggressive… and impossible to ignore. Then, in our second haunting, things take an even darker turn.A family begins to experience something deeply unsettling — an entity that doesn't just haunt… it mimics. Voices are copied. Movements are repeated. And at times, it becomes impossible to tell who — or what — is actually standing in the room. As the activity escalates, the family is forced to confront a terrifying possibility: whatever is inside their home isn't just watching them… it's trying to become them.Watch this podcast episode! Briefed presents: Journalism in War - Solidarity Beyond Borders (From Florence)What does it take to report the news from within a war zone?In this special episode recorded at the Voices - European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom, we explore how journalists continue working under extreme conditions - in Ukraine and in Gaza.Featuring testimonies from Sergiy Tomilenko (National Union of Journalists of Ukraine) and Yousef Khader Habache (Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate – Europe), this episode focuses on the creation of Journalists' Solidarity Centres: support hubs designed to help reporters operate in conflict environments. From access to electricity and internet, to safety equipment and emergency funding, these hubs provide the basic infrastructure needed to sustain journalism in times of war.In Ukraine, they were developed in response to Russia's full-scale invasion. In Gaza, the model has been adapted to function in an environment where infrastructure has largely collapsed. At the core of this episode: a simple question - how do you maintain journalism when the conditions to produce information no longer exist? This episode was produced with the support of Voices. Every summer, the family gathered in a large beach house—multiple floors, packed with relatives, constant movement, and the kind of noise you'd expect with that many people under one roof.Which is why, at first, nothing seemed out of place. Voices carried through the house late at night. Doors opened and closed. It always sounded like someone had just come in or moved from one room to another.Until they started checking. Each time, the rooms were empty. Everyone accounted for. No one awake, no one moving, no explanation for what they were hearing. It happened more than once, to more than one person. And what made it unsettling wasn't the house itself—it never felt threatening. It was the way it sounded like someone was always there… even when it shouldn't have been.#RealGhostStories #ParanormalPodcast #HauntedHouse #GhostStory #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalExperience #CreepyStories #Unexplained #HauntedVacation #ScaryStories Love real ghost stories? Robin Ritch has spent her career building things that matter. She has led teams at Microsoft, Intel, and Cisco, and most recently served as President and Publisher of Deseret News Publishing Company, where she helped transform a 172-year-old institution into a nationally recognized digital voice. Throughout her career, Robin has had a knack for seeing around corners. She has launched new products, modernized organizations, and brought together unlikely communities around conversations that matter. She gives back through board service at The Policy Project, WikiCharities, Social Venture Partners, and Mission Edge, organizations working to make communities stronger. For as long as she can remember, Robin has been fascinated by women and their relationship with God. That lifelong curiosity is what led her to write “Using Friction to Grow”, her first book. Robin examines case studies of Latter-day Saint women who navigated significant social and ecclesiastical changes during the 1970s. She discusses how these women managed friction from society, family, and the Church to develop deeper discipleship and personal sanctification. Links Using Friction to Grow: Stories of Strength and Resilience, LDS Women 1968-1976 Watch the video and share your thoughts in the Zion Lab community Transcript available with the video in the Zion Lab community Highlights Key Insights The Purpose of Friction: Friction is a divine design intended to slow individuals down, allowing them to refine their relationship with God and smooth away “rough edges” of character. Personal vs. Organizational Revelation: Individuals may receive personal revelation for their own lives that precedes broader organizational shifts within the Church. Historical Resilience: Women in the 1970s drew strength from the stories of their suffragette grandmothers, recognizing that navigating tension within a faith community is not a new phenomenon. Individual Agency and Revelation: The women Robin interviewed did not view Church counsel as a reason to stop their personal progression; instead, they used it as a prompt to seek their own confirmed answers through prayer and fasting. Grace for Diverse Paths: These women practiced deep empathy, recognizing that God provides unique answers for different individuals and that one person’s path does not dictate the “correct” path for everyone else. Leadership Applications Validating the Struggle: Leaders can help members understand that feeling “friction” with a policy or teaching is not a sign of unworthiness but an opportunity for a sanctifying “wrestle” with God. Managing Implementation: Recognizing the gap between revelation and organizational implementation helps leaders be more patient with institutional changes and more supportive of members who see needs before the organization adapts. 00:02:00 – Robin’s Book: Using Friction to Grow 00:03:00 – The Importance of Women’s Stories 00:04:00 – The 1970s: A Time of Friction for Women 00:06:00 – The Equal Rights Amendment and Church Response 00:07:00 – Personal Stories of Friction and Faith 00:09:00 – Navigating Friction in Faith Communities 00:10:00 – The Role of Personal Revelation 00:12:00 – The Nature of Friction in Growth 00:13:00 – Engaging with Friction for Personal Growth 00:15:00 – The Evolution of Church Practices 00:17:00 – The Importance of Change and Growth 00:18:00 – Balancing Hope and Disappointment in Faith 00:20:00 – The Role of Friction in Personal Development 00:21:00 – Story of a Woman’s Experience with Church Leadership 00:24:00 – Finding Strength in Christ Amidst Friction 00:25:00 – The Impact of Personal Stories 00:27:00 – The Need for Women’s Voices in the Church 00:29:00 – Encouragement for Women in Parenting 00:30:00 – Broadening Engagement Beyond Parenting 00:32:00 – The Importance of Sharing Light 00:33:00 – The Role of Leaders in Navigating Friction 00:37:00 – Understanding Different Perspectives 00:40:00 – The Influence of Social Media on Women’s Stories 00:41:00 – The Responsibility of the Hearer in Storytelling The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints’ mission to help Latter-day Saints be better prepared to lead. You're listening to Voices of Your Village, and today we're getting into something that doesn't get talked about enough in parenting: What happens when our stuff shows up in how we raise our kids. In this episode, I'm joined by Eli Harwood, and honestly, this one felt like part conversation, part therapy session. We're talking about what it looks like when your child is wired differently than you… and how easy it is to project your own fears, needs, and past experiences onto them without even realizing it. We get into mismatch, anxiety, and those moments where you find yourself thinking, “They need this,” when really… it's something you needed. Eli breaks down what it actually means to be a secure base for your kids. Not perfect, but steady. Being able to hold their emotions without needing to fix them. And how the real work of parenting is learning how to tolerate our own feelings so we don't hand them off to our children. If you've ever wondered, “Am I messing them up?” or felt that pull between wanting to protect your child and needing to let them be who they are… this episode is for you. How can we better incorporate prophetic messages in our lives, while also using them to bless the lives of those we love? In this episode, Scott C. Esplin, dean of Religious Education at BYU, discusses his article "Department and Individual Efforts to Amplify Prophetic Messages," coauthored with Brad Streeter, Rory Bigelow, Aaron Shumway, and David Peck. Drawing on a panel presentation from the 2024 Church Educational System Religious Educators Conference, Dean Esplin explores how religious educators can more faithfully emphasize and transmit the teachings of living prophets. Responding to counsel from Elder Clark G. Gilbert, the panel framed gospel teaching through the metaphor of an amplifier, namely prophetic messages serve as the input, educators function as the amplifier, and students receive the output. Further, Dean Esplin explains that prophets teach with clarity, repetition, and inspired emphasis, centering their messages on Jesus Christ, covenant belonging, and revealed priorities for our time. Ultimately, gospel teachers succeed when they faithfully proclaim the Lord's words and invite learners, through the Spirit, to hear and act. Norman Lewis, who died in 2003 at the age of 95, was one of the twentieth century's most adventurous travellers and one of its most brilliant and compelling writers. He was also prolific, producing fifteen novels, twenty highly praised travel books and hundreds of influential newspaper articles. So why isn't he better-known today? The Slightly Foxed team put this question to Julian Evans, a distinguished writer and traveller himself, author most recently of Undefeatable: Odessa in Love and War, and of Semi Invisible Man, the definitive biography of Norman Lewis.Julian took his title directly from his subject, who described himself as a ‘semi-invisible man', a watcher from the sidelines who hated personal publicity. It was a lesson Norman learned from a hard childhood in which, as a clever boy growing up in the North London suburbs, he was severely bullied at school. His spiritualist parents, shattered by the deaths of his two older brothers, sent him to stay for some time with his Welsh grandfather and three disturbingly eccentric aunts, an interlude he described in his autobiography Jackdaw Cake.A sharp dresser with a taste for fast cars, motor bikes and guns (though he hated violence) and a man of great charm, Norman survived during the 1930s Depression by running his own successful camera business. But travelling and writing were his passions, and after wartime service as an army Intelligence officer which produced his masterpiece Naples '44, he wove the experiences of his worldwide travels into many other magical books such as A Dragon Apparent, Golden Earth and Voices of the Old Sea. He had an unerring instinct for a story and took risks to give a voice to overlooked communities. His Sunday Times article on the genocide of indigenous tribes in Brazil prompted the founding of Survival International, and The Honoured Society exposed the inner workings of the Mafia in Sicily.Courage, humour, humanity, a distinctive voice and a genius for storytelling – Lewis has them all. ‘One goes on reading page after page as if eating cherries,' wrote one New York Times reviewer. An essential author, we all agreed, for anyone who relishes good writing. The Slightly Foxed Editors' book recommendations were two novels by Joseph O'Connor, My Father's House and The Ghosts of Rome, and Justin Webb's childhood memoir The Gift of a Radio. And for an introduction to Norman Lewis, A Quiet Evening, a selection of his best articles introduced by John Hatt.

On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the attacks on President Trump from the Woke Reich Neo-fascists are dispiriting, divisive, and harmful to the country and the conservative movement, potentially undermining Republican chances in midterm elections by aiding the left, spreading conspiracy theories, and diverting focus from unity and the agenda. The President is acting in the country's best interest despite facing significant opposition and personal cost. Compare that with politicians and commentators who accuse him of profiting from their positions or undermining the movement. Also, Trump is confronting the Iran nuclear enrichment issue, he's ending the blackmail, and is stopping funding of terrorism after decades of inaction. A nuclear-armed Iran would dominate the region, threaten global oil supplies, and endanger millions of Americans as suicide bombers with nuclear weapons and Trump's dealing with it. The Iranian regime are dead men walking and the negotiations are about deciding whether to resuscitate it or force its surrender. Later, Rep Ro Khanna has emerged as the top-performing congressional stock trader in AI-related investments, delivering a 112.1% excess return over the S&P 500. Will he explain this extraordinary profit, that even Nancy Pelosi couldn't pull off. Afterward, the total reported government national debt stands at $39 trillion, though unfunded entitlements push the real figure closer to $300 trillion, with interest payments reaching nearly $530 billion in the first six months of the fiscal year and projected to exceed $1 trillion annually. Trump is trying to address the debt crisis but Democrats ignore it and prioritize spending, borrowing, and attempts to remove Trump from office rather than fiscal responsibility. Finally, Buck Sexton calls in to discuss his new book, Manufacturing Delusion: How the Left Uses Brainwashing, Indoctrination, and Propaganda Against You. Learn more about your ad choices. A four-year-old girl disappears from a small Tennessee town, and almost instantly, fear ripples through the community. Her family pleads for answers. Her neighbors rally around them. People search, pray, and hold onto hope that she'll be found safe. But then, just when it seems the case couldn't get more tragic, it takes a turn so shocking it changes everything. Marlena Danyele Childress was just 4 years old when she vanished on April 16, 1987, from Union City, Tennessee, where she was last seen playing in the front yard of her family's home. She was 4 feet tall, weighed about 38 pounds, and had light brown hair and blue or hazel eyes. Her ears were pierced, and she had silver or stainless-steel caps on her top and bottom front teeth. The day she disappeared, Marlena was wearing a purple and white checked shirt with lace trim, light purple pants, and pink jelly-style shoes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Union City Police Department at 731-885-1515.
