Did you know that...- The average cost of keeping one infant in a child-care center is greater than tuition at public college?-Only 42% of working mother's in the U.S. stay home for the first 12 weeks of their infant's life?-Or that out of 170 countries, only 4 have NO PAID LEAVE for new mothers. And the U.S. is one of those 4?These stats don't even begin to scratch the surface of the challenges women face in the U.S. and is the topic of the new book "The War on Moms" by Sharon Lerner, this weeks guest on WomenCount Radio. Lerner who writes about women and politics for the Nation, joins us to talk about about her book and the challenges women face. And how getting more women into office is the only way to create policies to improve the climate for working mothers in the United States.

WomenCount Radio welcomes BlogHer's Political Director Erin Kotecki Vest and Co-Founder Elisa Camahort Page to the show. Debra Bowen became only the sixth woman in California history elected to a statewide constitutional office when she was elected as Secretary of State in November 2006. She is a champion of open government and has completely overhauled California's election system for the better. Secretary Bowen was recognized for her national leadership in election integrity with the 2008 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. WomenCount is proud to welcome Secretary Bowen to the show.
