In this episode, Allie talks with Pastor Jeff Schwarzentraub of Brave Church in Denver, Colorado, about proclaiming biblical truth in an increasingly hostile cultural and political environment. Jeff describes Denver's hedonistic, progressive shift, Colorado's radical transgender and abortion laws, and how COVID-19 convicted him to keep his church open and boldly proclaim the gospel in a time of fear and uncertainty. They discuss the pastor's role in speaking to moral issues like gender and abortion, the cost of courage, Christian engagement in government, raising faithful kids in a dark culture, and the hopeful signs Jeff sees in Gen Z and the next generation of believers. Pam Bondi seems determined to make the Department of Justice an ethics-free workplace. Bondi continues to tear down DOJ's ethical guardrails. In this no-BS, shame-free conversation, Vanessa breaks down why so many women admit (quietly, anonymously, in Facebook groups at 2 a.m.) that they've never had a real orgasm — and why that doesn't mean you're broken. From the myth of intercourse as the “main event” to the mental blocks, performance pressure, and distraction that get in the way, she explains what's actually happening in our bodies. We just got one heck of an Epstein files update. We know that state law enforcement authorities in New Mexico are now investigating Jeffrey Epstein's Zorro ranch. That is the scene of allegations of horrific crimes by Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and others, and it's good that the New Mexico law-enforcement authorities are FINALLY investigating. But the obvious question is: why wasn't the Zorro ranch searched by law-enforcement authorities when they searched Epstein's home in New York, when they searched his home in Florida, or when they searched his home on his infamous island?Well, we now know the answer to that question - why didn't they search the Zorro Ranch in New Mexico. Donald Trump's Department of Justice told the New Mexico law enforcement authorities to STOP INVESTIGATING! Glenn takes on this dramatic and deeply troubling new revelation. What if a horror film could teach us something about faith? In Sinners, music becomes a spiritual force that’s powerful enough to bring people together, challenge oppression, and even pierce the veil between life and death. In this episode of Reel Theology: Where Film Meets Faith, Rev. Brittany and Rev. Trudy explore the film Sinners and uncover the powerful spiritual questions hidden beneath its supernatural story. It’s a haunting movie that weaves together music, history, theology, and horror into an unforgettable masterpiece. Set in 1930s Mississippi, the film navigates faith, family expectations, and the cultural power of music in a deeply segregated society. What begins as a story about a juke joint and blues music soon unfolds into a layered reflection on temptation, survival, oppression, and spiritual power. It’s a vampire film, but it’s also about so much more: ancestral memory, cultural resilience, and the sacred power of music. In this conversation, the female pastors explore themes like: The relationship between music and spirituality Why religious institutions sometimes fear artistic expression African American spiritual traditions and Hoodoo The history of Black music as resistance and survival Theological ideas like temptation, evil, and process theology How oppression shapes community, identity, and belonging Ultimately, the film points toward a powerful truth echoed in Christian faith: Even in the presence of evil, racism, and death — nothing can separate us from the love of God. Watch the conversation and join us as we ask: What can a supernatural film teach us about faith? Want to connect with others about this discussion? Join our Patreon community online! Sinners has been nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screen Play, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Achievement in Casting Sinners also received nominations for: BAFTA Awards, Critics’ Choice Movies Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Grammy Awards, and SAG Awards. A Note About Awards: While widely praised by critics for its storytelling, cinematography, and cultural depth, Sinners has also sparked conversation about which films receive major awards recognition and why.
To be an attorney at the Department of Justice, you have to have a license to practice law issued by one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Against this backdrop, let's turn to the new reporting: Pam Bondi is trying to get rid of all of the ethical guardrails at the Department of Justice. First, she fired the head DOJ ethics attorney. Then she fired the head of the Office of Professional Responsibility - OPR - the organization that investigates allegations of misconduct by DOJ attorneys. Now Bondi is trying to violate states rights by seeking to prohibit state bar ethics offices from investigating attorney misconduct of lawyers who hold law licenses in their state. But here's the good news: there's an opportunity for we the people to weigh in, make our voices heard, and oppose this latest effort by Bondi to destroy ethical guardrails at the Department of Justice. Glenn sat down with former pardon attorney Liz Oyer to discuss this latest attempt by Bondi to destroy ethical guardrails at the DOJ.See the link below for how you can weigh in and register your opposition. To submit your opposition to this DOJ rule change: Regulations.govSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Progressive churches no longer even care about Scriptural authority. Conservatives, when they say things like, "we no longer need to adhere to the Old Testament," are equally dismissing the Bible's authority. So, why, why does that authority matter? In this conversational cast o' the pod Mark and I work through various layers concerning the authority of Scripture. What's the difference between inerrancy and infallibility? What takes place between the Old and New Testaments that shows remarkable unity? How is it possible to render the Bible's impact null and void? How can we know the Bible is not propaganda? Come think and laugh with the two of us!
Reel Theology: Where Film Meets Faith — Oscar Season Conversations How do we heal when trauma runs through generations like a crack in a foundation? In this episode of Reel Theology, Revs. Trudy and Brittany explore the Oscar-nominated film Sentimental Value, starring Stellan Skarsgård. Set in Norway, the film tells the story of Gustaf, a filmmaker attempting to reconcile with his daughters after years of absence. As he tries to reconnect through a film he has written for them, the story reveals layers of grief, generational trauma, patriarchal expectations, and the longing for forgiveness. Through the lens of progressive Christian theology, this conversation wrestles with the age-old question of theodicy: How can a loving God exist when so much suffering exists in the world? It's part of a special Academy Awards series from First United Methodist Church of San Diego, Reel Theology, where faith and film meet in meaningful conversation. Listen as the female pastors of explore how the film raises profound spiritual questions that reflect on faith, forgiveness, and the courage it takes to confront what has been broken: How does trauma pass through generations? Why do people walk away from faith when suffering seems overwhelming? What happens when we hide from our pain instead of confronting it? Can reconciliation happen after years of absence? Where is God when families break apart? Want to connect with others about this discussion? Join our Patreon community online!

This week, Julie & Brandy talk to a former Military Chaplain about how Christian Nationalism is the driving force behind America's involvement in the war in Iran. For nearly a decade, a predator stalked the quiet marshlands and sugarcane fields of southeastern Louisiana, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. In this episode, we dive into the chilling case of Ronald Dominique, a man who confessed to the rape and murder of at least 23 men and boys between 1997 and 2006.Despite a victim count that rivals some of history's most notorious killers, Dominique's name is rarely mentioned alongside Bundy or Gacy. We explore the "perfect storm" of factors that allowed him to evade capture for so long—from his strategic targeting of marginalized men on society's fringes to the devastating chaos of Hurricane Katrina that overshadowed the investigation. Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Chime: https://chime.com/OBSCURA* Check out Kensington Publishing: https://www.kensingtonbooks.com* Check out Mood and use my code OBSCURA for a great deal: https://mood.com* Check out Progressive: https://progressive.com* Check out TruDiagnostic and use my code OBSCURA20 for a great deal: https://www.trudiagnostic.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/obscura-a-true-crime-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Donald Trump's quest to prosecute his perceived enemies, isn't going so good for him. Remember when Donald Trump's Department of Justice filed motions to withdraw appeals they had filed in four cases Trump lost. Those cases involved Trump using executive orders to try to punish law firms that displeased him. Trump and his DOJ got crushed in all four cases, but his Department of Justice filed appeals.Well, then the DOJ threw in the towel, filing a motion to withdraw the appeals because they knew they didn't have a shot at winning. What happened next? Apparently, Donald Trump got wind of it and likely told Pam Bondi - 'nope, I am not gonna let you quit these cases or withdraw these appeals.' So like a good little flunky, Pam Bondi and her Department of Justice are now trying to take the towel back and revive the appeals that they told the court they wanted to withdraw. On the heels of that debacle, it looks like the DOJ has bucked Donald Trump again. Remember when Donald Trump wanted his DOJ to prosecute Joe Biden for using an auto pen? Here was the headline at the time: "Trump orders a probe into the Biden administration and its alleged autopen."The New York Times reported a new legal development on the Joe Biden/autopen front, "Justice Department, Under Pressure from Trump Fails to Build Autopen Case Against Biden. Prosecutors in the US attorneys office in Washington were unable to build a case, underscoring the department's increasing inability to follow through on the president's desire to indict his rivals."It sure looks like Donald Trump's DOJ leadership with Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche, and Jeanine Pirro - is crumbling. And it's looking more and more like Donald Trump's entire presidency is imploding.I sat down with former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg to discuss how it's becoming clearer by the day that Trump's DOJ leadership is circling the drain.Find Dave on Substack: davearonberg.substack.comFind Glenn on Substack: glennkirschner.substack.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Our Iran War coverage continues. Pete Hegseth warns of the most intense day of war so far. Iranian official threatens Donald. Is the war complete or not? Donald calls the war an "excursion." It was a Tomahawk Missile that struck the girls' school. No evidence Iran's Research Reactor was being used for nuclear weapons. Iran is activating sleeper cells. No one wants this war. No one wants Donald. Donald said soldiers wounded by roadside bombs are "walking around with no legs." Ben Shapiro writes off dead children as "collateral damage." Hero of Democracy: Reporter Shawn McCreesh. Another predictably shitty jobs report. Epstein prison guards discussed coverup of Epstein's death. Savannah sits down with therapist, speaker, and author Matt Wade for a conversation that gets real about relationships, trauma, and what it actually takes to heal. Matt has played a personal role in Savannah's life over the years, helping her navigate some of the hardest seasons she's faced, so this episode is less like an interview and more like an honest conversation between two people who've done the work.Matt opens up about the moment his own marriage nearly fell apart and the long road it took to rebuild it. What followed was years of therapy, confronting ego, childhood wounds, and the painful realization that healing requires you to face the parts of yourself you'd rather avoid. Savannah shares pieces of her own journey along the way, including the ways trauma and trust can show up in relationships long after the moment that caused them. They talk about secrets, emotional safety, attachment styles, and why so many couples unknowingly repeat the same patterns in their relationships. Matt also explains how trauma doesn't just affect one person or one moment in time. It can carry through families and generations if the work isn't done. From inner child work and therapy breakthroughs to the importance of repair after conflict, this episode is full of practical insight for anyone trying to build healthier relationships with themselves and the people they love.Because healing may be simple… but it's rarely easy.Thank you to our sponsors for supporting our show!- Wildgrain: Get $30 off your first box, plus FREE croissants FOR LIFE at https://www.wildgrain.com/unlocked or you can use promo code UNLOCKED at checkout!- Progressive: Join the over 28 million drivers who trust Progressive. Ever since grains entered the human diet about 10,000 years ago, our health began to change in surprising ways.In fact, archaeological evidence shows that within just a couple of thousand years, the average human height dropped by nearly a foot.In this episode, I'm taking a closer look at one of the most common grain-based foods today: bread.Modern bread is very different from what our ancestors may have eaten, and many varieties on grocery store shelves are highly processed and can disrupt blood sugar, gut health, and metabolism. In this episode, I break down why certain breads may be more harmful than you realize, and share what you should know if you still want to enjoy bread without sabotaging your health. On this episode, you'll learn: How much hidden sugar is lurking in everyday bread (0:33)Which “healthy” bread is one of the worst options for your gut and metabolism (2:20)The remarkable story of a patient whose arthritis dramatically improved after removing THIS common bread from their diet (4:30)Which “whole grain” may be a major driver of heart disease, brain inflammation, arthritis, and even autoimmune conditions like MS (7:00)Why labels like “gluten-free oats” can be misleading (8:30)The bread alternatives I actually recommend (10:00)A simple trick that can help blunt the blood sugar spike when you do eat bread (13:10)Thank you to our sponsors! Thus far, Donald Trump has sent six military members - six of America's sons and daughters - to their death, in what is, by all rational accounts, an unlawful and unconstitutional war. And just so there's no mistake about the fact that we ARE in a war, Pete Hegseth just said at a press conference, "The terms of this war will be set by us." I just sat down with military law expert Dan Maurer. Dan is a law professor and retired Army LTC JAG officer. Dan taught constitutional law and criminal law at West Point, and was an instructor at the Army's Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dan explains why we are - indisputably - in an unlawful and unconstitutional war.Find Dan on Substack: danmaurer1.substack.com Find Glen on Substack: glennkirschner.substack.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Welcome back, to Dark Realms. In today's show, we explore the eerie and deeply unsettling case of Helen Duncan, the Scottish medium often remembered as Britain's “last witch,” whose séances, spirit claims, and wartime notoriety drew the attention of the British state at the height of World War II. Moving through a world of darkened séance rooms, grief-stricken families, government secrecy, and ancient law, this episode examines how a woman associated with ectoplasm, spiritualism, and contact with the dead became entangled in one of the most infamous legal cases in British paranormal history. As the story unfolds, questions of belief, fraud, fear, and control begin to blur, revealing a haunting collision between wartime paranoia, the supernatural, and the law. For anyone fascinated by Helen Duncan, this is a chilling look at the moment when what was said in the dark became far too dangerous to ignore.Stay safe,Kevin. We're giving a full weeks trial of our Patreon away!
