Bill previews four of the most competitive Senate races shaping midterm control, noting Democrats must hold their 47 seats and flip four GOP seats to retake the Senate. In Michigan, reporter Rick Pluta, Senior Capitol Correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network, describes a vicious, expensive Democratic primary between Rep. Haley Stevens and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, with party unity concerns and GOP nominee Mike Rogers looming. In Ohio, Andrew Tobias, Political Reporter at Signal Ohio, says both sides are treating Sherrod Brown vs. appointed Sen. John Husted as a tipping-point Senate race, while the governor's contest pits Dr. Amy Acton against Vivek Ramaswamy amid heavy spending, plus a House scandal involving Rep. Max Miller. In Texas, Maria Recio of the Austin American Statesman, explains Ken Paxton's divisive nomination and polls showing Democrat James Talarico competitive, alongside new congressional maps. In Maine, Alex Seitz-Wald, Deputy Editor of The Midcoast Villager, details Troy Jackson's challenge to Sen. Susan Collins, contrasting local vs. national issues and tight polling.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Mike tackles the growing influence of Democratic Socialists within the Democratic Party, questioning how progressive policies and candidates are reshaping the party ahead of the midterm elections. He examines proposals ranging from government-run grocery stores to higher taxes on wealthy property owners, explores the political fallout among longtime Democrats, and discusses why some former allies are now voicing concerns about the party’s direction. Mike also asks listeners whether the current progressive movement represents a temporary shift or a lasting transformation of American politics, and what the stakes could be for voters in the months ahead.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
President Donald Trump told reporters on Aug. 2 that he called off planned military strikes on Iran the night before at the urging of regional allies. The president said negotiations with Iran would begin on Monday. “I was asked to by Saudi Arabia, by UAE, and by Qatar, and by Iran,” he said aboard Air Force One on Sunday. “We were all set to go.”In Michigan, voters will this week pick their nominee for a key Senate race in the fall. In a trend sweeping the nation, a moderate democrat is facing off with a progressive candidate. They are vying to fill the seat of retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters. The winner of Tuesday's primary will face former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers in November.
During the summer break, the 15-Minute History team will be republishing some of your favorite episodes. This episode originally aired on February 9, 2026.---American progressives at the turn of the 20th century saw major flaws in the United States Constitution and worked to correct them through the process of amendments. Each one was the subject of debate and controversy, and all four made measurable changes to American society (though one can debate the merits of some). Join us for this survey of the four progressive amendments--as well as a funny story from Jon's classroom--and tune in next week for our discussion about how these amendments shaped the future course of American history.
Glenn speaks with Stacey Young the Executive director at the non-profit group Justice Connection. They have become the leading voice delivering the message that the assault on the DOJ makes Americans more vulnerable to violent crime, corruption, climate change, civil rights violations, and terrorism—while eroding the foundation of our democracy. And by providing direct support to employees, tracking the damage, pressuring Congress and mobilizing alumni, they're standing up for the Department Glenn and Stacey once served. Alcoholism—The Progressive Disease Alcoholism does not remain in one place. It may begin slowly and appear manageable, but over time it takes more: more attention, more time, more honesty, more relationships, more health, and more freedom. Today we'll talk about how alcoholism progresses even when the outside of someone's life still looks intact, why consequences usually become more serious, and how denial allows the disease to keep growing. The progression can be stopped. Recovery begins when we recognize the problem, admit the truth, surrender, accept help, and begin taking the actions that lead us toward a different life. #TheDailyTrudge #ProgressiveDisease #Alcoholism #AlcoholicsAnonymous #AARecovery #Recovery #Sobriety #Denial #Surrender #ThereIsASolution #OneDayAtATime

Progressive candidates have serious momentum going into the upcoming primaries in Michigan and Wisconsin — but they'll have to figure out how to explain away some problematic old tweets. Meanwhile, Democrats land on a novel strategy for competing in deep red states (hint: it doesn't involve Democrats). Jon and Dan discuss the latest in all the key races, as well as Todd Blanche's failing nomination for attorney general, the administration's decision to deny disaster aid to four Democratic-led states, and Elon Musk's plan to pump $100 million into the midterms to support Republican candidates. Then, they check in on the AI singularity, which OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says has officially arrived, and debate how Democrats should talk about AI going forward.Hate listening to ads? In this episode of Talk Dizzy To Me, vestibular physical therapists Dr. Abbie Ross, PT, NCS and Dr. Dani Tolman, PT sit down with Dr. David Sandlin, a vestibular and oculomotor neurologist at Emory Brain Health Center, to discuss how eye movements can provide critical clues to progressive neurologic diseases. From Parkinson's disease and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) to Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), cerebellar disorders, and Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Dr. Sandlin explains how a detailed bedside eye movement examination can detect neurologic disease long before imaging does. He shares the clinical reasoning behind evaluating nystagmus, saccades, smooth pursuit, VOR testing, and other vestibular examination findings that help differentiate central from peripheral causes of dizziness. This episode also discusses the importance of making timely referrals and understanding where vestibular rehabilitation fits into the care of progressive neurologic disorders.Hosted by:
Have you ever felt anxious before your workday even begins?Maybe your heart starts racing before you log in. Maybe your stomach tightens during your commute. Or perhaps you end every shift emotionally exhausted, wondering why work seems to drain so much more than your energy. If any of that sounds familiar, you're not alone.Workplace anxiety affects millions of people, yet many of us dismiss it as “just part of being an adult.” We tell ourselves to push through, work harder, and be grateful to have a job. But chronic workplace stress doesn't just disappear—it often follows us home, disrupts our sleep, impacts our relationships, and slowly chips away at our mental and emotional well-being.In this episode of The Grounded Bag Podcast, we're unpacking the hidden causes of workplace anxiety, exploring why work can feel emotionally overwhelming, and sharing practical tools you can use to protect your peace without sacrificing your career. What Is Workplace Anxiety?Workplace anxiety isn't simply having a stressful day. It's the ongoing emotional, physical, and psychological distress connected to your work environment or job responsibilities. It can show up as:* Racing thoughts before work* Difficulty concentrating* Trouble sleeping the night before a shift* Feeling emotionally numb or constantly overwhelmed* Muscle tension or headaches* Irritability and emotional exhaustion* Fear of making mistakes* Feeling like you're never doing enoughSometimes the anxiety comes from the job itself. Other times, it's the environment surrounding the work. Why Does Work Make Us So Anxious? There isn't one universal cause. Workplace anxiety is often the result of multiple stressors building over time.Toxic Workplace CulturesConstant criticism, gossip, favoritism, micromanagement, poor leadership, or lack of psychological safety can leave employees feeling emotionally guarded every day. When survival becomes the goal instead of growth, anxiety naturally follows.Unrealistic ExpectationsMany workplaces expect employees to produce more with fewer resources while remaining constantly available. The pressure to always perform can create chronic stress that eventually leads to burnout.PerfectionismSometimes the workplace isn't the only source of anxiety. Many of us carry internal beliefs that tell us we must never make mistakes, disappoint others, or ask for help.Perfectionism often disguises itself as ambition—but beneath it is frequently fear.BurnoutBurnout doesn't happen overnight. It develops when stress becomes chronic and recovery never happens. You may begin feeling emotionally detached, physically exhausted, cynical about work, or disconnected from the purpose that once motivated you.Unresolved Stress and TraumaPast experiences—whether from previous jobs, personal relationships, childhood environments, or discrimination—can influence how we respond to workplace challenges today.Sometimes work activates wounds that were never fully healed.Practical Coping Tools for Workplace AnxietyWhile we can't always change our work environment immediately, we can develop healthier ways to care for ourselves while planning our next steps.Create BoundariesBoundaries protect your mental health. That might mean:* Logging off on time* Taking your lunch break* Avoiding checking emails after work* Saying no when your workload becomes unrealisticBoundaries aren't selfish—they're sustainable.Notice Your Physical Stress SignalsPay attention to your body.Do your shoulders tense up during meetings?Does your breathing become shallow?Does your stomach tighten before speaking with certain coworkers?Awareness is often the first step toward healing.Practice Grounding TechniquesSimple grounding exercises can help regulate your nervous system during stressful moments.Try:* Box breathing* A five-minute walk* Stretching between meetings* Naming five things you can see, hear, or feel* Progressive muscle relaxationSmall moments of regulation throughout the day can have a significant impact.Challenge Anxious ThoughtsAsk yourself:* Is this thought based on facts or fear?* What evidence supports this belief?* Am I assuming the worst-case scenario?* What would I tell a friend experiencing this?Learning to question anxious thinking helps reduce its power.Seek SupportYou don't have to navigate workplace anxiety alone.Whether it's therapy, support groups, trusted mentors, or loved ones, talking through your experiences can reduce isolation and help you develop healthier coping strategies.Seeking help is a sign of strength—not weakness.Grounded Reflection QuestionsTake a few moments to reflect honestly.* What specific parts of work trigger my anxiety?* Do I feel pressure to hide my stress?* What would a psychologically safe workplace feel like?* Am I holding tension I haven't processed?* What helps me feel grounded during the workday?Healing often begins with awareness.Free Mental Health ResourcesIf workplace anxiety has become overwhelming, these organizations offer education, support, and helpful resources:* Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA): https://adaa.org* National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org* HeyPeers: https://heypeers.comJoin the ConversationWhat has helped you manage workplace anxiety?Share your experiences, coping strategies, or lessons you've learned. Your story may encourage someone else who needs the reminder that they are not alone.Continue Growing With MeIf this conversation resonated with you, I'd love for you to join our growing community.

Calling Out Donald Trump: Exposed for Unconstitutional? Blue States Targeted, Alex Jones Turns on Trump & Iran War Escalates On today's episode of The Rush Hour, we're breaking down the growing constitutional battle over Donald Trump's reported efforts to strip blue states of federal funding for solar and renewable energy projects, raising new legal questions over executive power and whether the White House can selectively withhold congressionally authorized funds. Then, in one of the most stunning political reversals yet, longtime Trump ally Alex Jones is calling for Trump's removal from office, claiming the administration is steering the country toward a larger war with Iran and warning that he believes preparations for a national military draft are underway. We'll separate Jones' claims from what has actually been confirmed and examine why cracks are widening inside Trump's own political coalition. Plus, the latest developments in the Iran conflict, including military escalation, congressional pushback over presidential war powers, and what these developments could mean for U.S. involvement in the region moving forward. Progressive news with a comedian's perspective—cutting through the spin, following the facts, and helping you make sense of another chaotic day in politics.

This 20-minute guided progressive muscle relaxation practice takes you through two complete passes of tension and release to help your whole body settle. The first pass uses stronger contractions through the feet, legs, core, hands, arms, shoulders, and face. The second pass moves more slowly through smaller muscle groups using only a slight amount of tension, almost like going over the body with a fine-tooth comb. You can practice lying down or seated, though lying down may help you experience the full depth of the release. Close your eyes, follow the instructions, and notice the difference between tension and relaxation rather than trying to force yourself into a calm state. This guided PMR session includes:• Two full-body relaxation passes• Progressive tension and release• Feet, legs, core, arms, shoulders, neck, jaw, and face• Stronger contractions followed by subtle muscle awareness• Space to rest after the final release• A slow and gentle return to normal awarenessThis practice may be useful when you feel physically tense, overstimulated, restless, or unable to properly settle down. You can also use it before sleep, after a stressful day, or whenever your body seems to be holding onto more than your mind realizes.Never tense a muscle to the point of pain. Skip or modify any movement that does not feel safe for your body.Do not listen while driving or doing anything that requires your full attention. You did well. On today's show, guest host Zoltán Grossman is in conversation with Stephen Zunes about the on-again, off-again US war with Iran. They discuss the status of the Strait of Hormuz, the US's nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia, and the shifting public opinion in the US about the war. Despite the asymmetrical power of the US's aerial arsenal, Zunes says that Iranian drones have been very effective at creating tactical advantages in the war. Though there have been many attempts at a ceasefire deal, Zunes argues that any version would have to include some concessions to Iran's advantage. But he says that Trump would rather perpetuate the war than negotiate. They discuss the many rippling effects of the war including a decline in the world petroleum market, more insecurity for US allies in the Middle East, and the creation of nuclear apartheid as the US comes to a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia. These issues, in addition to human rights abuses, are causing massive shifts in public opinion about the war with Iran and Palestine with young people especially. Zunes connects the war with Iran to other global conflicts, from Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara to Palestine. He says that the Palestine solidarity movement should include Western Sahara and that The Odyssey film has created a rare opportunity to bring attention to the occupation. Denver's downtown is bleeding out — and city hall is spinning the corpse. Despite pouring $177 million into a renovation project and insisting the urban core is on the mend, three iconic businesses have permanently closed: Rock Bottom Brewery, 1Up Arcade Bar, and others that defined what downtown Denver once was. The city's own numbers quietly tell the story officials won't: a vacancy rate approaching 40%, surpassing even Seattle as the benchmark for progressive urban collapse. The causes aren't mysterious. Years of defund-the-police ideology, a revolving door for criminals, and sanctuary-city status signaled to businesses — and the criminals who prey on them — that Denver's leadership had chosen a side. When a Rockies game day can't keep the bars open, the math has broken down completely.Denver officials point to falling crime statistics as proof of a comeback. But a 40% commercial vacancy rate, combined with Rock Bottom closing its doors for good, is the kind of evidence that doesn't care about press releases. Colorado was once a state people built things in. Progressive leadership has made it a state people leave.CHAPTERS0:00 The Blue City exodus hits Denver: 3…1:05 Three Downtown Denver Businesses Close2:49 One Up Arcade Closes Near Coors Field4:29 Rock Bottom Brewery Closes in Denver6:52 Crime and Pandemic Drive Denver Closures8:03 World Cup Disappoints Seattle Local…10:28 Washington State Warns on Potent…11:29 Church and Union Denver Closes Saturday12:54 Denver Office Vacancy Hits Record High14:29 Katie Wilson Backtracks on Starbucks…16:34 Revisiting Denver's Tren de Aragua…17:33 Until Next EpisodeSubscribe to @reasonablenews for daily coverage of the stories the mainstream media buries — the blue-city exodus, failed urban policy, and what's really happening in your backyard.#GavinNewsom #CaliforniaPolitics #BillionaireTaxGO PREMIUM WITH REASONABLE+ FOR UNCENSORED ACCESS

What if one of the strongest predictors of how long you'll live isn't your weight or blood pressure—but your strength? In this solo episode of Harder Than Life, Kelly Siegel explores the growing research connecting muscle strength, grip strength, and healthy aging, while sharing the personal experiences that transformed the way he approaches fitness. Kelly explains why losing muscle isn't simply a normal part of aging—it can have a major impact on mobility, independence, recovery, and long-term health. He also shares the moment that motivated him to take his own fitness seriously and why he now views strength training as an investment in longevity rather than appearance. The episode introduces Kelly's Four Pillars for building muscle and staying healthy: progressive strength training, adequate protein intake, quality recovery, and tracking meaningful progress over time. If you've been focusing only on losing weight, this conversation may encourage you to shift your attention toward building strength for the decades ahead. Key Topics:

Thaddeus McCotter describes the Michigan Democratic Senate primary as a "civil war" between establishment candidate Haley Stevens and progressive Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. The candidates are sharply divided over AIPAC funding and support for Israel. Stevens is endorsed by high-profile figures like Gretchen Whitmer and Barack Obama. The result will indicate if the Democratic Socialists of America can succeed in a statewide race in a swing state. (15)1690

A few months ago, I asked you about your health and training. And almost all of you said some version of the same thing: "I feel like I'm doing all the right things... so why isn't it working?"You're training. You're walking. You're eating protein. You're trying to tick all the boxes. And yet you still feel stuck. You're tired from thinking about training. You're carrying the mental load of trying to get it right. The food. The workouts. The steps. The supplements. The sleep. The recovery. And somewhere along the way, you've lost clarity. In this EP, we're talking about the final layers of the Training Hierarchy:Exposure. Adaptation. Recovery.Because your bod doesn't change during training. She changes afterwards. And if you're not getting the results you want, it's often not because you're not trying. It's because the adaptation cycle isn't being completed. This episode will help you understand why. What You'll Learn In This EpisodeWhy most women are exhausted by the mental load of training. The difference between:TrainingRecoveryAdaptationThe complete adaptation cycle:StimulusDisruptionRecoveryAdaptationWhy repeated exposure is required to build strength, muscle and body compositionThe biggest mistake women make with programs and exercise selectionWhy constantly changing workouts is sabotaging your resultsWhat progressive overload actually meansThe six pillars that drive training success:ConsistencyTechniqueProgrammingPresenceMindsetPainWhy recovery is far more than taking a rest dayThe "overcooked pasta" analogy and what it teaches us about modern lifeHow to find your training "sweet spot"Key TakeawaysYour body adapts after training, not during it.One workout creates a signal. Repeated exposure creates change.Novelty feels like progress. Exposure creates progress. Most women leave a program just as adaptation is beginning.Recovery isn't a day off. Recovery is a state. The goal isn't doing more. The goal is finding your sweet spot.Effort doesn't build the body you want. Strategy does.Powerful Quotes“Most of you aren't tired from training. You're tired from thinking about training.”“Your body doesn't adapt during training. She adapts after.”“Novelty is not progress. Progressive exposure is progress.”“Recovery isn't a day. How to get your body in the right position, create real stability, and produce the kind of mechanical tension that builds lean muscle, gets you stronger, and changes your body composition for good. Each lift is taught through the lens of the Training Hierarchy — position, stability, and force. Donald Trump has pretty much announced that he'll be interfering in the upcoming midterm elections. We only need to look back to January 6, 2021, when Trump virtually ordered an angry mob to attack the US Capitol after lying to them, convincing them that their election was rigged. He said, 'if you don't fight like hell, you won't have a country anymore, now go to the Capitol and stop the certification - stop the steal!' Trump tried to use that angry mob to stop the certification of Joe Biden's election win and his election loss. So, of course, he is intending to interfere in the upcoming midterms. Why wouldn't he? He got away with it last time! And we've been hearing some recent rumblings from some of Trump's sycophants, about how he might try to use immigration officers - like ICE agents - to intimidate voters at the polls.Glenn sat down with a former Border Patrol agent Jenn Budd. Jenn shared her story about her journey from Border Patrol agent to immigrant advocate, which is what she's doing now. She also shared her concerns about how Trump might try to misuse the powers of immigration enforcement agencies to interfere in the upcoming midterm elections.Jenn is sounding the alarm, and Glenn thinks we would all do well to heed the call. He has said before that justice is a team sport. We break down the latest warning signs, what they could mean for gas prices, inflation, and the global economy, and why the conflict shows few signs of slowing down. We cover the biggest moments from the showdown between Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed, including accusations surrounding AIPAC support after an AIPAC-backed candidate made a disputed claim during the live debate. Bill speaks with American Federation of Teachers President, Randi Weingarten about the political fallout from Republicans' “One Big, Beautiful Bill” ahead of the November midterms, noting a Politico poll showing most Americans haven't heard of it and many who have think it mainly helps the wealthy. Weingarten says July student-loan changes eliminated most prior income-driven repayment plans, raising payments by hundreds or thousands per year for many of the 44 million borrowers, with 3.6 million defaults since Trump returned to office. Now with higher interest, and more debt collection. She promotes the coalition-led One Big Bill Campaign (onebigbill.org) to collect borrowers' stories—such as a Philly school counselor whose payment rose from $90 to $440—and take them to Congress, linking the cuts to tax breaks for the rich alongside reductions to Medicaid and SNAP. They also discuss Trump's efforts to dismantle the Department of Education, voucher expansion, and pressure on universities over DEI and antisemitism claims.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The outcome of Michigan's Senate race will have major implications for the balance of power in Washington, DC, and for the future of the Democratic Party itself. With primaries taking place on August 4, all eyes are on the battle between progressive candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and establishment candidate Haley Stephens to see who will represent Democrats in the general election. In this full, unedited interview, TRNN Editor-in-Chief Maximillian Alvarez sits down with El-Sayed to talk about his campaign, the civil war within the Democratic party, and about fighting corporate oligarchy and MAGA fascism at the same time.Credits:Post-Production: David HebdenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-real-news-podcast--2952221/support.Help us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer.Follow us on:Bluesky: @therealnews.comFacebook: The Real News NetworkTwitter: @TheRealNewsYouTube: @therealnewsInstagram: @therealnewsnetworkBecome a member and join the Supporters Club for The Real News Podcast today!

Testosterone, not GLP-1s, is what finally let Chalene Johnson lose body fat and build real muscle after 40, and she's laying out exactly how in this episode. Chalene explains why her total testosterone always looked normal on paper while she still felt exhausted and stuck in the gym, until a clinician finally tested her free testosterone and SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) and found the real problem. In her words, total testosterone is the money in the bank, free testosterone is the cash in your pocket, and SHBG is the bank teller deciding how much you actually get to spend. She also gets into why she skipped the growth peptides everyone's talking about (tesamorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295) and switched from monthly testosterone injections to a daily cream instead. She talks candidly about the mold exposure that wrecked her hormones, caregiving through her father-in-law's Alzheimer's, and why she stopped weighing herself and started tracking body fat with an InBody scale instead. Topics discussed: testosterone for women, free testosterone, total testosterone, SHBG, hormone replacement therapy, perimenopause, GLP-1, tesamorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295, HGH, IGF-1, progressive overload, body composition, InBody scale, DEXA scan, mold toxicity, testosterone cream Midi Health testosterone for women: https://chalene.com/test Midi Health hormone and menopause care: https://chalene.com/midi Go Beyond The Podcast Join Chalene on her private podcast
