Youth Ascending Podcast

On the 12th installment of the Youth Ascending Podcast, host Chris Kirui welcomes rapper/singer KNOWN to the show. Born in Mission, British Columbia, Canada KNOWN began rapping at the age of 12 and since then has grown to become one of Vancouver's most prominant figures within music. On this episode KNOWN and Chris disucuss his journey in music and how it led him to touring North America at the age of 18. The pair also talk about KNOWN's recent transition into a different style of music and how he feels about this new direction. KNOWN's latest single titled "Survivor" featuring Powfu has just surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify, and in the interview he provides some backstory as to how this hit came together. The begining of the podcast includes Chris' thoughts on new releases from FRVR Friday, Kuzi Cee, and EKKSTACY as well as news about an upcoming music festival in Vancouver.

On episode 11 of the Youth Ascedning Podcast, host Chris Kirui is joined by singer, songwriter REVÈ. REVÈ and Chris discuss her journey in music and how she has harnessed her gift to create the distinctive music she makes today. We also talk about her debut EP titled Die One Day and how the concept is not as deep as people may seem. Finally we end with a facinating chat about the current state of music and how she plans on continuing this rise throughout 2021.

On this special editon of the Youth Ascending podcast host, Chris Kirui chats with writer, podcast host and fellow commentor Kyle Bhawan. Chris and Kyle examine the current outlook of the Vancouver music scene. Kyle dives deep into artists like BBNO$, Prado, Manila Grey and gives us his unique perspective as he has witness these aritst grow from very early on. Through a new segment, Chris and Kyle rank artists and they each provide reasons why they are ranked where they are. This episode is a great introduction to the vast amount of talent that is within Vancouver and answers anybody who doubts the potential of this west coast city.

Episode 9 of the Youth Ascending Podcast welcomes on photographer, director and now musician BRAEDIN to the show. Host Chris Kirui, discusses BRAEDIN's beginnings as a freelance photograpgher while attending post secondary and how that enabled him to grow his network and portfolio. We talk about his jouney from working for free to being self employed and running his own business. We also get into his sucess on tik tok and how he plans on turning this fame into a music career. It was a pleasure to have BRAEDIN on the show and I am looking forward to his first release.

On episode 8 of the Youth Ascending Podcast host, Chris Kirui welcomes the founders of the Calgary-based artist collective SRRYNOTSRRY. The founders Wyatt and Tauran explain explain how this collective formed and speak about what they want to acomplish. Wyatt and Tauran have assembled some of the most talented rappers, singers, photographer, producers and creatives in Calgay and have all housed them under this collective. This conversation will hopefully convicnce you that Calgary's music community is alive and well and that the perception is beginning to change because of SRRYNOTSRRRY. 

On today's episode of the Youth Ascending Podcast host, Chris Kirui is joined by Vancouver Rapper turned Singer Jeymon for a brief interview. Previously known as "JMON", Jeymon has rebranded himself as an artist who wears his heart on his sleeve and is unapologetic for who he is. Jeymon has his next single "Lucidity" dropping this Friday and he discuss the concept behind the single as well as the inspiration behind the visuals. Jeymon is quite the character, which always makes for an entertaining interview. Early in the episode, Chris dives deep into Manila Grey's new album No Saints On Knight Street giving his thoughts and opinions on each track and the body of work overall.

On the 6th edition of the Youth Ascending podcast I interview Vancouver artist TRES6IX AKA PEAK. We discuss TRES6IX's early beginings in high school, where he and his childhood best friend AP would produce and make music in his parents basement. From there the duo called themselves TRES6IX and later took the city of Vancouver by storm with their hit PUT IT DOWN. Just as the duo began gaining traction, the world shut down forcing the pair to completely re-think their strategy. Ultimately, this series of unfortunate events led to the duo parting ways and PEAK contiuned his career solo still under the name TRES6IX. We talk about how difficult that decison was for PEAK, and what life has been like now being a solo act during this covid-era. This is one of the best conversations ive had thus far, you really get to understand the struggles many artists have faced throughout 2020 and how they have adapted and innovated to maintain relevance.

Episode 5 of the Youth Ascending Podcast host Chris Kirui, welcomes Vancouver Rapper and Singer ParisPlayedYou to the show. This conversation  covers everything Paris has been up to since making the decsion to pursue music. They discuss Paris' motivation to change his name from Givechy to ParisPlayedYou and the benefits Paris has experienced with this rebrand. Paris also reveals some new details about his self titled EP PARISPLAYEDYOU. Before the interview, Chris gives the listeners his opinions on NFTs and why he believes it will transform the music industry.

On the 4th installment of the Youth Ascending Podcast, host Chris Kirui welcomes on Vancouver producer and A&R Kelland. We talk about his journey in music since droping out of university and making the move to Vancouver. Kelland tells the story of how he met BBNO$, BOSLEN, and the Chaos Club team. We also get into the making of his collab EP "SEASONS" with fellow Vancovuer producer NXSTY. Before the interview Chris gives his thoughts on new releases "DENY" by Boslen feat. In Episode 3 of the Youth Ascending Podcast we welcome on our biggest guest yet, Turbo. The Calgary-born musican sits down with host Chris Kirui and gives his pespective on what life has been like since signing to the music label "Internet Money". The pair also discuss the long and turbulant journey Turbo has endured as an artist coming out of Calgary. We learn about the inspiration behind his soundcloud mixtape "Sixth Gear" and the crazy story of how that project managed to find the ears of world-renown producer Taz Tyalor. In 2020, Turbo released 4 songs and we discuss the marketing strategy Turbo employed to not only grow his brand, but to also showcase Albertan culture to the world. This conversation will hopefully give you guys some insight into who Turbo is, and why he's is truly something special.

In the second installment of The Youth Ascending Podcast, host Chris Kirui begins the episode with big news from Vancouver artist Boslen. Chris begins the show by giving his take on Boslen's single "TRIP" and speculates further about his upcoming album. Chris also comments on new music that has released since the last episode and gives his thoughts on the exciting collective coming out of Calgary "SRRYSOULS". Later in the episode Chris sits down with Edmonton-based director and videographer Cordell Jomha to gain his perspective on what it has been like to work within a city on the rise. Cordell comments on FRVR Friday's success as well as his work with other notable figures ARDN and TURBO. We wrap up this converation on his furture plans and what he envisions in the furture for Edmonton's music scene.

On the first episode of the "Youth Ascending Podcast," I, Chris Kirui share my story behind the social media platform "Youth Ascending". I also welcome on Calgary-based artist Kuzi Cee, to talk about his journey in music thus far, and how it led to his first project titled "Now Here From NowHere". Kuzi gives us a few stories behind the EP and we discuss how difficult it has been to create during covid.
