Born in Mission, British Columbia, Canada KNOWN began rapping at the age of 12 and since then has grown to become one of Vancouver's most prominant figures within music. On this episode KNOWN and Chris disucuss his journey in music and how it led him to touring North America at the age of 18. The pair also talk about KNOWN's recent transition into a different style of music and how he feels about this new direction. KNOWN's latest single titled "Survivor" featuring Powfu has just surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify, and in the interview he provides some backstory as to how this hit came together. Host Chris Kirui, discusses BRAEDIN's beginnings as a freelance photograpgher while attending post secondary and how that enabled him to grow his network and portfolio. We talk about his jouney from working for free to being self employed and running his own business. We also get into his sucess on tik tok and how he plans on turning this fame into a music career. The founders Wyatt and Tauran explain explain how this collective formed and speak about what they want to acomplish. Wyatt and Tauran have assembled some of the most talented rappers, singers, photographer, producers and creatives in Calgay and have all housed them under this collective. This conversation will hopefully convicnce you that Calgary's music community is alive and well and that the perception is beginning to change because of SRRYNOTSRRRY.
On today's episode of the Youth Ascending Podcast host, Chris Kirui is joined by Vancouver Rapper turned Singer Jeymon for a brief interview. Previously known as "JMON", Jeymon has rebranded himself as an artist who wears his heart on his sleeve and is unapologetic for who he is. Jeymon has his next single "Lucidity" dropping this Friday and he discuss the concept behind the single as well as the inspiration behind the visuals. Jeymon is quite the character, which always makes for an entertaining interview. Early in the episode, Chris dives deep into Manila Grey's new album No Saints On Knight Street giving his thoughts and opinions on each track and the body of work overall.
On the 6th edition of the Youth Ascending podcast I interview Vancouver artist TRES6IX AKA PEAK. We discuss TRES6IX's early beginings in high school, where he and his childhood best friend AP would produce and make music in his parents basement. From there the duo called themselves TRES6IX and later took the city of Vancouver by storm with their hit PUT IT DOWN. Just as the duo began gaining traction, the world shut down forcing the pair to completely re-think their strategy. Ultimately, this series of unfortunate events led to the duo parting ways and PEAK contiuned his career solo still under the name TRES6IX. We talk about how difficult that decison was for PEAK, and what life has been like now being a solo act during this covid-era. This is one of the best conversations ive had thus far, you really get to understand the struggles many artists have faced throughout 2020 and how they have adapted and innovated to maintain relevance.
