The long awaited Forde report - investigating revelations about the behaviour of Labour staffers under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership which was exposed by a leaked document - was expected to be a whitewash. It wasn't: it exposed horrendous behaviour on the part of Labour officials. What does it tell us about the behaviour of the Labour Right - and the fate which befell Corbyn's Labour party? We are joined by former Corbyn staffer and author Alex Nunns, and author and journalist Rachel Shabi. Please subscribe - and help us take on the right-wing media here: https://patreon.com/owenjones84Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-owen-jones-podcast. This week I’m joined by Alex Nunns, author of The Candidate: Jeremy Corbyn's Improbable Path to Power to discuss the Labour Party after the local elections, the balance of power within the PLP, and the prospects for a new centrist party.
Hilary Wainwright, co-editor of Red Pepper magazine and fellow of the Transnational Institute, has been a significant figure on the left of the Labour Movement since the heyday of the GLC. Her latest book A New Politics from the Left (Polity) reflects on the recent reinvigoration of the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn, and presents a grass-roots up vision of the future that is both profoundly radical and entirely practical. She was in conversation about her book, and the future of the left in Britain, with journalist, activist and author Melissa Benn, and Alex Nunns, author of The Candidate (OR Books). Dan and Tom are joined by Alex Nunns, author of the award winning book, 'The Candidate', a second edition of which has just been published. They discuss the media strategy and policies of the Labour Party, social media and the embarrassing failures of Jonathan Freedland, Polly Toybee and the rest of them.
Jack, Laura and Tom are joined by Alex Nunns (@alexnunns on Twitter), author of The Candidate: Jeremy Corbyn's Improbable Path to Power (OR Books), now out in its second edition, updated to cover the 2017 General Election that solidified Jeremy Corbyn's mandate to take the Labour Party in the leftward direction of his choosing. We talk about the pivotal moments in Corbyn's leadership, from the campaign that rocketed him to the head of his party on a tide of anti-austerity anger and socialist hope back in 2015, to his miraculous rescue of a political project that only a year ago seemed helplessly on the brink of ruin. Alex is an authority on Corbynism, and his book is excellent, deeply insightful and thoroughly researched in a way that puts most lobby journalists to shame. It was a pleasure to talk to him.
Alex Nunns, author and Jeremy Corbyn expert, steps into the ring to show our two resident Yanks what's what. We talk about his sabotage from the labour party elite, and what's next for the Left post-Brexit. This episode also features NY comedy Bernie bro extraordinaire Julian Guarino, and famous folk singer Billy Bragg. Big gets here folks! The podcast is doing great!
