Be sure to click the link in the show notes below and check out Fred's amazing channel.Fred, a tribal council member from Dillingham, Alaska, returns to share chilling accounts of encounters with what he calls the “hairy man.” In his First Nations culture, these experiences are not sensationalized—they're part of oral history and everyday life in remote Alaska.In the first story, two relatives—“Penelope” and “Jasmine”—were camping on a gravel bar near the confluence of the Nuuk and Ishak rivers while heading to Harris Creek to prospect for gold. During the night, they heard strange noises and saw multiple sets of eyeshine—white and amber/red—watching from the darkness. Penelope witnessed a massive, dark, man-like figure with long arms moving along the riverbank.What followed escalated quickly: a blood-curdling scream, pebbles tossed into the water, and even a broken birch tree thrown into the channel. A towering figure—estimated around 12 feet tall—paced, swayed, squatted, showed its teeth, and vocalized while more eyeshine appeared in the distance, suggesting multiple beings.After a warning shot was fired, the activity briefly stopped—but later something crossed the channel, circled their tent while huffing like a bear, screamed from just 15 feet away, and even rocked a large tree stump near camp. Shots were fired from inside the tent before the pair fled in their boat, leaving their camp behind. Reports of screams, thrown objects, tracks, and even UFO sightings are common in the remote regions he represents.He then shares a second account from about 20 years ago. Two friends, “Benson” and “Terry,” set out on a 10-day fly-fishing trip that ended early after repeated frightening events. They experienced unnatural silence, large tracks, and the constant feeling of being watched. Terry saw a large man-like figure in the tundra and later encountered something 8 to 8.5 feet tall standing in a creek, unfazed by shouting. On the sixth day, Benson followed a strange melodic whistle and appeared briefly trance-like before Terry stopped him.That night, Benson finally saw the creature clearly—squatted about 20 feet from camp with glowing red eyeshine, a wrinkled face, massive hands, and large block-like teeth framed by thick fur. When Terry aimed his rifle, it screamed. Shots were fired, and they believed it may have been hit.The creature returned repeatedly that night and eventually grabbed and threw their tent before running off after more gunfire.By day seven, they hiked out and were picked up early. Relating history and landscape his next book, The Island Woods published in 2012 is a three-hundred-year-long spatial history of the forested interior of Cape Ann complementing other books written about Gloucester's well-known maritime heritage. Combining maps and genealogy data, his third book in the series The Cellars Speak offers new insight into the early settlers who lived in the woods of Cape Ann hundreds of years ago.Another book written at this time Diary of a Serial App Developer is a tongue-in-cheek autobiography of a ten-year stint moonlighting as an early iPhone app developer.Dr. Carlotto's collaboration in a study of astronomical alignments at a Native American ceremonial site published by the Massachusetts Archaeological Society in 2015 was an inkling of things to come. While planning a trip to Mexico a few years later he found the archaeological sites he hoped to visit were not aligned in any obvious way. Before Atlantis published in 2018, describes his discovery that these and other ancient sites across the world appear to have been aligned to previous locations of the North Pole, and virtue of their alignment could be tens of thousands to more than a hundred thousand years old.Completing a book started in the 1990s, Not of This World, released in 2021, examines historical UFO cases and recently disclosed reports of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). Things sometimes flash in the night sky. That includes some weird and wonderful astronomical objects. Some of them shine for a few minutes or even seconds, then vanish. So it can be tough to understand just what caused them. Thousands of these “transients” showed up in a decade-long look at the night sky. And a recent study found a statistical link between some of those transients and both nuclear weapons tests and reports of UFOs. The study analyzed thousands of nights of observations by the Palomar Sky Survey. From 1949 to 1958, astronomers repeatedly photographed the night sky on glass plates, looking to compile the best map of the heavens to date. Many of the plates revealed transients that were star-like pinpoints of light. They appeared out of nowhere, then disappeared just as quickly. The study found that, on average, the number of transients was greater on nights just after above-ground nuclear explosions. And there were more reports of UFOs on nights with more transients. There are many possible explanations. There could be problems with the original plates, for example. The nukes could’ve created some previously unknown effects in the atmosphere. The study also says the flashes could have been metallic objects far above our planet – perhaps even visitors from other worlds. But many scientists say we need a much more thorough look at the pictures before we’ll know what caused these flashes in the night sky. Script by Damond Benningfield
