But more importantly, you learn a lot about life. The greatest trap in youth sports—and in modern culture—is the belief that the scoreboard tells the whole truth. We live in a world obsessed with trailing indicators: the final score, the bank account balance, the job title, or the metrics on a screen. But after coaching hundreds of young men through the "muck and grind" of their high school years, the ultimate lesson I've walked away with is this: The scoreboard is a liar. It can crown you a winner when you played selfishly against a weak opponent, and it can brand you a loser when you gave a heroic, flawless effort against a superior force. True success has nothing to do with the numbers on the wall. It is about the unyielding standard you hold yourself to when nobody is watching, and the Resilience Equity you build when life hits you with an unexpected 10-0 run. In basketball, the average possession lasts less than twenty seconds. If a player throws a bad pass or misses a wide-open layup, and they spend the next five seconds hanging their head or kicking the floor, the opponent is already sprinting down the court for an uncontested layup. We call that emotional hang-time. Life operates on the exact same loop. You will experience turnovers. A business venture will stall out, a relationship will fracture, or an unexpected tax bill will land on your kitchen table. The Lesson: You cannot control the whistle that just blew, but you have 100% control over your Next Play Speed. The Execution: Elite performers acknowledge the error, flush the negative emotion instantly, and sprint back into defensive position. The faster your mental reset, the more resilient your life becomes. Everyone wants the glory of the buzzer-beating shot under the lights. But championship habits aren't built during the moments of celebration; they are forged during those quiet, exhausted Tuesday practices in the middle of January when the gym is cold and the energy is flat. We can look at human development through a modified version of our favorite basketball efficiency metric, Effective Field Goal Percentage ($eFG%$). In life, your output is a direct reflection of your daily alignment and habit selection: If your daily efforts are scattered, emotional, or undisciplined, your overall efficiency plummets. But when you commit to Radical Consistency—showing up with a high center of gravity and a Level 4 work ethic every single day—you maximize your probability of a winning outcome over the long haul. When a child is young, or when an employee first starts a job, they operate in a state of compliance. They do what they are told because they want to avoid a sprint or keep their position. They are Coach-Fed. But the final frontier of growth—both on the floor and in your personal life—is transitioning to absolute ownership. You must become Player-Led. The Shift: You stop waiting for a boss, a parent, or a coach to tell you to clean up the workspace, dive for the loose ball, or fix a broken communication stream. The Result: You take ownership of the room. When your inner voice becomes the ultimate enforcer of your standards, you stop merely surviving day-to-day chaos and start dictating the terms of your future. Large language models produce fluent, convincing output but lack genuine reasoning, epistemological grounding, or judgment. Research on cognitive surrender shows that even people who understand how LLMs work are still susceptible to being misled by their fluency, meaning intelligence and awareness offer no reliable protection against being deceived.6. The gap between language and cognition matters deeply when evaluating AI. Evidence from people with aphasia shows that thinking can occur without language, which suggests LLMs, being purely language-based systems, are missing a fundamental layer of cognition that cannot be recovered through more tokens or better training.7. Knowledge graphs and RDF-based representation are well suited to the problem of verification and grounding in AI systems. Rather than relying on vectorized embeddings of language, a knowledge graph can store validated, provenance-tracked facts with degrees of certainty, making it a natural foundation for building trustworthy AI applications.

A year ago I published an episode entitled “Gay Eccentrics,” which featured a number of the most delightfully peculiar personalities sprinkled across queer music history. The third of those characters, theatrical and record producer Ben Bagley, reappears on today's episode. This time I feature selections from his record albums featuring two more gay eccenctrics, Lorenz Hart and Cole Porter! Bagley's recordings uncovered and/or resuscitated trunk songs and other material by some of the most important Broadway composers and lyricists sung by a fascinating hodge-podge of some of the most prominent singers and actors of the era. In this episode alone we hear Tony Perkins, Gloria Swanson, Blossom Dearie, Charlotte Rae, Bobby Short, Sandy Stewart, Carmen Alvarez, Dorothy Loudon, Karen Morrow, David Allyn, Dolores Gray, Johnny Desmond, Ann Hampton Calloway, and Danny Meehan. These recordings were inevitably against all odds, seemingly tossed together, and on a shoestring budget, but the results were almost always surprisingly polished (and if not polished, at least fascinating!) One of the most notorious aspects of these releases was Bagley's outrageously campy (and sometimes simply outrageous) liner notes, from which I quote extensively. I also read a 1974 profile of Bagley in which he espouses his ongoing credo of stretching the truth in order to make seemingly impossible dreams come true. The full details remain unreleased and unseen, which makes premature celebration impossible. If it is done and will be signed in 48-72 hours, let's see it. The core concern is long-term enforcement, given Iran's history as a terrorist regime that has never abided by any agreement, and exists to destroy the West and non-compliant Muslims through funding groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. How effective will enforcement be post-Trump presidency, especially under Democrats. We have the enemy where we want it. We may never again. It was right to attack them, and in a few weeks' time they were on their back. We hit the brakes for 9 weeks. First the Israelis and then we went back to military action this week, and the regime was badly damaged beyond the original damage. Rather than destroy it, including arming the Iranian people, we have an MOU and future negotiations. Also, Roger Zakheim, Director of the Ronald Reagan Institute, calls in and details the lack of any trustworthy record from the Iranian regime, warning that the deal may not be worth the paper it's written on despite the U.S. having weakened Iran through Operation Epic Fury and economic blockade pressure. Any worthwhile agreement must reverse the JCPOA by demanding zero enrichment, ending the missile program, halting support for terrorist groups like Hezbollah, and ensuring open Straits. Later, Rep Jamie Raskin is already leading a plot to impeach the President if the Democrats take the House. Republicans should move to expel Jamie Raskin from the House.  If he can continue to abuse our constitutional system and undermine our electoral process (ironic, since he blames Trump and Republicans for doing so), having led every effort described above, then take the necessary steps to charge him under the expulsion clause.
