Working Class Audio #214 with Bart Thurber!!! What started as a hobby, soon became an obsession that led me to start House Of Faith Studios in Palo Alto. When the graffiti covered building was torn down, my studio moved to Oakland. After 28 years, recording over 700 bands, I’m still amazed by the musicians I work with. Every band I’ve recorded has something unique and remarkable about them. I truly enjoy helping people achieve the recordings that they hear inside. As I tell my bands : ” I want this recording to sound like you, only more so. “ About this Interview: I head over to House of Faith in Oakland for a chat with Bart about the most common musician personality types, people skills, studio sharing and his recent (2014) transition from analog to digital. KABOOM! Get under your desks, kids. Welcome to my second Behind the Music episode featuring an unreleased track off Hayley and the Crushers’ upcoming album Cool Lame. You’ll also hear a rare discussion with Dr. Cain about our nontraditional collaboration process on the love song “Before the Blitz.” Spoiler: It’s about the end of the world! The apocolypse feels real this week. Thousands have been evacuated from Southern California due to the Thomas Fires. Two friends of mine, and of the band, have lost their home. It has been a devestating week, one where we have had to dig deep to give strength and compassion to our friends. Introducing a new series: "Behind the Music" features behind-the-scenes stories about Hayley and the Crushers' forthcoming album COOL LAME! Remember when the teacher would tell you, “Show your work?” Did you do it? Why or why not? It can be hard to share all the messy, complicated, and sometimes embarassing behind-the-scenes stuff that goes into recording a new album. Often, we want to show off the “polished” and “perfect” end product, instead of the real effort that goes into making our art. Never one to shy away from embarassing herself, Hayley Crusher Cain discects her most recent recording process and shares a raw track off Hayley and the Crushers’ upcoming album, COOL LAME, out this Spring. Live in Concert! See Hayley and the Crushers live at Harvard and Stone in LA this Nov. 30 for the Play Like a Girl LA Showcase! This is a free show and supports female led bands and musicians. Play Like a Girl LA is helping to put women musicians in the spotlight, so please support here: Info: http://www.playlikeagirlla.com/events This episode features portions of a raw mix of “Small Lives” performed and written by Hayley and the Crushers and recorded with Bart Thurber at House of Faith Studios in Oakland, California: http://www.bartthurberrecording.com The theme song “Glitter and Glue” was written by Hayley Cain and was produced by Randall Sena of Certain Sparks Studio in Lompoc, Ca. if you like it, listen to Hayley and the Crushers’ album Jewel Case on Spotify.
