This week, our hosts Dave Bittner, Joe Carrigan, and Maria Varmazis (also host of the T-Minus Space Daily show) are back sharing the latest in social engineering scams, phishing schemes, and criminal exploits that are making headlines. Our hosts share some follow-up, including a Rick Roll after the last episode. They also highlight a listener note from Evaldas in Lithuania, who explains that companies often use alternate domains for marketing emails to protect their main domain's reputation—so marking them as spam is actually expected. Joe's got a story of a billion-dollar AI-fueled scam where criminals impersonate celebrities like Keanu Reeves and Kevin Costner to exploit lonely fans—convincing them to send money, fall in love, and keep the relationship secret, all while Hollywood scrambles to fight back. Maria has the story of how a federal court blocked the FTC's new “click-to-cancel” rule—meant to make canceling subscriptions easier—due to a procedural misstep, just days before it was set to take effect. Dave shares a story from Reddit about a disturbing extortion scam where a victim received a fake photo of their car outside a strip club—with their real license plate—demanding $1,000 to keep it quiet, raising questions about data scraping and AI manipulation. Our catch of the day comes from the scams subreddit, where a user shares a tale of a scammer promising big returns for investing in gold and diamonds—spoiler alert: it's all glitter, no gold. Complete our annual audience survey before August 31. Send us a textEver feel like your mind is a jar of shaken glitter, thoughts swirling chaotically as you juggle work deadlines and family responsibilities? You're not alone.Mental fitness trainer Karishma Motiram reveals transformative approaches to parenting and work-life balance in this enlightening conversation. Drawing from her personal journey, Karishma shares how returning to work after her second child triggered unexpected confidence issues despite workplace support. "They were almost so nice that it made me doubt myself," she explains, highlighting the complex psychological terrain working parents navigate. What makes this episode particularly valuable is the practical wisdom Karishma offers. She introduces the concept of mental fitness—strengthening your psychological muscles just as you would physical ones at the gym. Through simple exercises like focused sensory awareness for just ten seconds, parents can quiet the chaos of competing demands and make clearer decisions. Her distinction between priorities and focus revolutionizes how parents think about balancing responsibilities: "What you need to focus on doesn't mean that it's more important because you need to focus on it. It just means right now it needs your focus."Perhaps most powerful is Karishma's perspective on perfectionism. "Imagine a child growing up with a perfect parent," she challenges listeners. "Do you actually want to put that pressure on your children?" This reframing helps parents see how their self-imposed standards affect their entire family system, creating permission for everyone to embrace their humanity.Ready to strengthen your mental fitness? Try Karishma's free "Mindful Parenting Weekly" newsletter or her 15-minute self-guided coaching experience. This year's Budapest Pride was banned in March under the Orbán government's contentious “child protection” law. Demonstrators were threatened with hefty fines for participating, and the government said it would employ facial-recognition technology to identify and potentially prosecute those who turned out to take part at the march on 28 June. Did the ban work? Not in the slightest. In fact, more people than ever in the 30-year history of Budapest Pride showed up to celebrate their rights as LGBTQ+ human beings. The massive Pride march brought a glimmer of hope to some Hungarian citizens, including this week's guest, writer Krisztián Marton. We spoke with Krisztián about the lead-up to the event, the thrill of being on the ground last Saturday, and what might be next for Hungary, now that Viktor Orbán finally has a formidable challenger in Péter Magyar. We also chatted with Dominic's husband, Thomas Lamers, a philosopher and dramaturg who hit the streets for us, mic in hand. (Thanks, Thomas, we owe you!) Krisztián Marton is a screenwriter and novelist. You can follow him on Instagram here and read an excerpt in English of his Margó Prize-nominated novel Crybaby here. You can donate to Thomas's fundraiser to pay some of the fines that may be incurred by Pride attendees here. The mics pop like champagne as we usher Miami OG Lea Black back for part 2 in Dallas. What follows is a glitter cannon of gossip, gratitude, and girdle-tight life lessons—all in under an hour. Glitter vs. Grit Lea opens her designer diary: she once slid to the side so “drop-dead gorgeous” Joanna Krupa could shine, and even loaned baubles to castmates “starring in rented houses and leased Jaguars.” She applauds Bethenny Frankel's rag-to-Skinnygirl rise while roasting fame junkies who'll chase a camera “to the opening of an envelope.” Hollywood Stories & Humble Queens Grab your autograph book. Lea bumps into Faye Dunaway disguised in Juicy Couture, the boys accept a curbside first edition from Dyan Cannon, and Pol' watches Zoë Saldana crawl on the boutique floor to play with puppy SnowWhite90210. Patrik fires back: mistaking Courtney Love for a “homeless lady,” then auctioning Pamela Anderson's lap for $10 K at a gala. The moral, via icons Betty White and Anna Nicole Smith: class never goes out of style. Skincare Royalty & the Chump Army We chat about Lea Black Beauty serums, masks, and miracle oil and Pol' confesses he ditched Obagi for Lea Black Beauty. Cosmic Signs & Coffee Grounds Pol's 2nd half of Lea's Armenian coffee divination crowns Lea “queen of limitless lanes.” Two new ventures shimmer in the grinds: an affordable-housing empire for son RJ and a hush-hush jewelry play. The trio compare destiny detours—from a Phuket flight missed before the 2004 tsunami to pilots grounding planes on “feng-shui feelings.” Hot Topics & Runway Rundown Headlines fly: Gene Hackman's carbon-monoxide tragedy prompts a detector PSA. Jeff Bezos plans to rocket Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, and Katy Perry into orbit—Lea yells “Prenup, please!”Fashion time: Pol' torches the RHOM reunion looks—Lisa Hochstein's iridescent foil (“Forever 21 clearance”), Larsa Pippen's emerald ruche, and Alexia's metallic mini—branding the set “Star-Wars prom.” By contrast, Greg Lotus's portrait of Lea in a bias-cut ivory gown is christened “Rich-Bitch Perfection.” Money, Morals & Mega-Billions Lea slams corporate layoff kings, privatized-FAA chaos, and royal PR spin. Her mantra: “Show me where you spend your money, time, and influence, and I'll show your values.” Love, Security & Limitless Hustle Coffee grounds confirm attorney/philanthropist Roy Black is Lea's steady North Star—“that box is forever checked.” With home secure, she juggles a dozen gigs and yearns for five more. Patrik crowns her the “Ozempic of people—one shot and your goals slim to what matters.” Lea's final words: “I feel naked—inside and out—but drape me in couture and 60 carats, darling!” This is another Hurrdat Media Production. In this powerful and unfiltered episode of Destroy The Hairdresser, Cyd and David unpack the glamorization of queer stylists in the salon industry—and the exploitation that often hides underneath. From being celebrated for their “fabulous energy” to being overlooked for leadership and pay raises, queer hairdressers are too often stuck in a glitter-covered box. This episode explores the emotional labor queer stylists are expected to perform, the culture of tokenism disguised as inclusivity, and how to reclaim queer power in business. It's time to stop clapping and start cutting checks.
