Happy Monday! We're kicking off this episode with a birthday shoutout to the Guru of Glitter before diving headfirst into sports talk from the past couple weeks.
Step into the velvet night… This isn't just a playlist. It's a full-throttle, sequin-soaked seduction—a Nu Disco love affair with the spirit of Studio 54. A glimmering galaxy of grooves where mirrorballs spin like planets, champagne flows like confetti, and every beat whispers: let go. Behind the velvet rope? Legends reborn. CHIC, Grace, Sylvester, Sister Sledge—revived by remix royalty. From Dimitri From Paris to Dave Lee, Louie Vega to Horse Meat Disco, this is where classic heat meets future funk. The bass is deeper. The edits are sleeker. And the vibe? Unapologetically decadent. Expect cosmic highs, sensual lows, and a BPM that pulses through your hips like a lover's whisper. Whether you're strutting downtown, candlelit and fearless, or dancing alone in silk and sweat—this is your soundtrack to liberation. Glitter up. Dim the lights. Press play. Studio 54 isn't gone. It's just been reborn.

Episode 2269 - Glitter bombs, Craigslist nostalgia, and the eternal dream of uploading your dirty mind to the cloud—this one sparkles with nonsense. The Kid and El Pres dive headfirst into “divorce dust,” a.k.a. weaponized glitter now being used by women to repel unwanted male attention (and possibly solve murder cases). From there, it's a fast-talking freefall into Craigslist's lingering corpse, OnlyFans murders-for-hire, AI as your future best friend, and the oddly emotional experience of hearing a dead relative's voice on tape. We also wax philosophical on sex, legacy, bodysuits, and vibrators that might one day be haunted by your hologram. Oh, and Superman. Of course Superman.

THE Tony Moran, responsible for the 'One For Sorrow (Tony Moran Remix)' and who Billboard ranked as one of the most successful dance artists of ALL TIME is our very special guest on Glitter & Gold. For the first time since he created the remix back in 1999 (to coincide with the launch of Steps in America) Tony tells us about how the opportunity to remix the track came to be and the legacy his mix has 27 years on. Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
What is up!? We're back with another installment of Big Fat Five, where I invite on drummers who've inspired me to break down the five records that helped shape their unique voice behind the kit. This week's guest is Sam Cohen—a Canadian drummer who, much like Marco Kleebauer a few weeks back, popped up on my Explore Page and instantly caught my ear. Sam also makes music under the name Glitter Party—a solo pop project he writes, records, and mixes entirely in his home studio up in Toronto. It's raw, nostalgic, catchy, and perfectly saturated—DIY in the best sense of the word. He does a great job of setting up his backstory and artistic approach right at the top of our chat, so I'll shut up—for now. Hope you enjoy the five records that shaped Sam Cohen into the musician he is today. Cheers! Okay, sweet one, let's talk about the grand lie of having a purpose. Because hasn't everyone, at some point, stared into their organic kale salad and wondered, "WHY am I here?"Really, isn't that THE question? We're all chasing that deeper something, the elusive unicorn of purpose, because, well, we think it equals happiness. Glitter cannons and rainbows!Basically, aren't we all just hunting for joy through our jobs, our love lives, and maybe that overpriced yoga retreat? Because let's be honest, if those things led to misery, we'd be binge-watching Netflix instead. (Okay, some days we do both.)So, how do you actually find this magical life purpose? If you boil down every self-help book ever written (and I've read a LOT), two ideas bubble to the surface, like so much kombucha. They create two distinct, shall we say, *vibes* about Life.Vibe #1: Purpose is “Out There!”This is the story we're constantly sold, the narrative with all the bells and whistles. It's the idea that purpose and happiness are about *doing* and *getting*.What exactly are you supposed to be getting?Well, according to the marketing gurus (who are probably sipping martinis on a yacht somewhere), it's always - More! Better!More experiences, more influence, a passive income stream that makes your eyes water, a better house with a walk-in closet for your shoes, a better job that feeds your soul AND pays the bills, better sex (because, duh), and for the truly enlightened, a better, more Instagrammable spirituality. It's always *better* than what you've got right now, darling. But here's the cosmic joke: More and Better *never* actually deliver. As that wise old grump Ecclesiastes put it: "Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless! But…life is still amazing.” (Even he couldn't help but throw in an "amazing" at the end!)We all kinda know this, right? We feel it in our bones after every online shopping spree. Still, those clever ads keep whispering promises. So, we jump back on the hamster wheel, convinced *this time* it'll be different. A new job! A soulmate who understands our obsession with miniature dachshunds! A truly transformative experience involving a llama! The catch? It's always a future promise. "Once I _______, then I'll find purpose/happiness/meaning."Once I quit my soul-crushing job, I'll finally be happy.Once I meet Mr./Ms. Right, then I'll know what love REALLY is.The future, my friend, is perpetually "tomorrow." That's the lie behind Vibe #1. The “hedonic treadmill” will leave you exhausted and feeling slightly used. Vibe #2: Your Purpose and Happiness are *Here, Now* Because Honey, *You ARE* the Purpose. The mind really throws a tantrum at this one based on how we've been programmed to have a “PURPOSE.”What if the truth is ridiculously simple: You *are* your purpose? You're here to know and be your glorious, messy, authentic Self as you cast your VISION and allow the listening to answer your CALLING (more on this on my next series of purpose). Seriously, pause for a moment and let that sink in.You're here to express your utterly unique, wonderfully weird, creative Self fully, freely, and fearlessly.Everything else such as your creativity, your relationships, your questionable fashion choices – are just sparkling byproducts of you being *you*.Knowing and being yourself? That's the answer to "What is my highest purpose and the source of my deepest freakin' joy?"The hitch? We've forgotten who we are. From childhood, we get handed a cookie-cutter mold for the "Good Life" who to be, what to want, what success looks like. So, we spend our lives trying to squish ourselves into that mold, developing a seriously messed-up case of mistaken identity. Then BAM! Quarter-life crises! Mid-life meltdowns! (It's all very dramatic, really.) So, how do you start?Embrace the Disillusionment, Darling. If you're feeling a little… blah about life, congratulations! You're right where you need to be. Disillusionment is inevitable. We no longer grasp to who we thought we were, and the one “purpose” we have in this life - and feeling that pressure!Even if you achieve all the things, the shine wears off. (That's just physics.)Own it. There's wisdom in that “blah” feeling. The pain of disillusionment can unlock a whole new, glittery world of freedom and possibilities. Why?Disillusionment means shedding the illusions. Seeing through the B.S. The cultural story that says purpose is “out there” is just a cleverly disguised sales pitch. You've checked the boxes, achieved the goals. But how long did it last? How long before you were chasing the next spiritual high?Spiritual goals are fabulous, but notice how we're always trying to *escape* those uncomfortable feelings. We launch projects, start cleanses, binge-watch cat videos. But eventually, we're back to the same damn questions.Wherever you go, there you are (and your existential baggage). So, you might as well embrace it.Disillusionment is an invitation. Like a pang of hunger, it's your True Self nudging you toward the truth.Look around. Mental illness is on the rise. Loneliness is an epidemic. People are quietly quitting their lives. Clearly, something's gotta give. The way we work, the way we live, the way we define "purpose"… it's all crumbling. That old story that purpose is “out there” keeps us stuck. That's the real question, isn't it? Who are you?Or, more accurately, *what* are you?Time to reframe this, Darling. What Is Your Vision and Soul Calling?A Vision is the art of seeing life's possibilities unfold—a profound and intuitive process that bridges the gap between your inner truth and the external world. It invites you to see not only the road ahead but also the unseen opportunities that lie along your path. Unlike conventional purpose driven vision, which often confines itself to specific, tangible goals, a calling embraces the unknown and empowers you to trust in the unfolding of your life's purpose. It is both a lens and a compass, helping you navigate toward your authentic self. The roots of the word “vision” are steeped in ancient wisdom. Derived from the Proto-Indo-European WEID, meaning “to see” or “to know,” the concept of vision transcends time and space. It reminds you that seeing is not merely a physical act but a deeper knowing—a connection to clarity and purpose that originates from within. THEREFORE. The vision Creates the PATH. Your Calling, is your Life's pursuit of multiple variations as a creator - offering insight and guidance that arises organically from your inner self, rather than being dictated by external expectations.Kassandra
Episode Description: Since 1985, Emily Sailers and Amy Ray have been known as the Indigo Girls, and they've never once stopped making music or sharing their message of acceptance. The two met when they were kids in Decatur, Georgia,, and once they started playing together in high school, it didn't take long for their unique sound to find an audience—first regionally, then nationally, and eventually worldwide. Last summer, when their hit song “Closer to Fine” was featured prominently in the movie Barbie, they seemed to catch fire with a whole new generation, and now they're back with a slew of new projects. A documentary called It's Only Life After All delves into their lives, their struggles, and their activism; a rom-com called Glitter & Doom is set to their music; and of course there's some new songs. Sid also asks about Emily's longtime passion for food and cooking, the bar in Atlanta where they got their start, and what it's been like to endure as openly gay artists in the South and the music industry. Described as ‘the first lady of Irish cycling', Dervla Murphy was renowned for her intrepid spirit, and she remained passionate about travel, writing, politics, conservation and bicycling until her death in 2022. In this episode of the Slightly Foxed podcast we have gathered a number of those who knew and worked with Dervla to discuss the life and work of this extraordinary travel writer. Gail Pirkis and Steph Allen, from Slightly Foxed, worked with Dervla during their time at John Murray Publishers. Rose Baring was her editor at Eland Books and Ethel Crowley was a friend and editor of the recent anthology, Life at Full Tilt: The Selected Writings of Dervla Murphy. Together with our host Rosie Goldsmith they discuss Dervla's early years and inspiration, consider the experience of publishing her work and examine her place in the Ireland of her time. Born in Lismore, Ireland, in 1931, Dervla lived there until the end of her life. She was an only child and her parents, who originated from Dublin, encouraged her independence and love of books. Her father – who later became the much-loved Waterford County Librarian ‒ had been involved in the Irish republican movement and had served time in Wormwood Scrubs prison for his activities. Dervla spent her childhood caring for her mother who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, and then left school at 14 to care for her full-time. When her parents died in 1962 Dervla, at the age of 30, found herself free to travel. She acquired a bicycle and set out on a journey to Istanbul, through Iran and on to India during one of the worst winters in recent memory. This would become the subject of her first, and most famous book, Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle, published in 1965. There followed numerous voyages with her trusty steed and 25 more books, including her highly acclaimed autobiography Wheels within Wheels. She won worldwide praise for her writing and many awards, including the Edward Stanford Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Travel Writing and a Royal Geographical Society Award. Dervla took huge risks, mostly travelling alone and in famously austere style, whether in far-flung Limpopo, the Andes, Gaza or closer to home, where she documented the worst of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Battling injury and political circumstance, she immersed herself in the lives of ordinary people caught in the shifting tides of power that dictated the terms on which they lived. To these people, she listened. What resulted was some of the most astute and compelling travel writing of the twentieth century. As the table choose their favourite book of Dervla's, we also have our usual round-up of current reading, including the latest mystery from Kate Atkinson, Death at the Sign of the Rook, the Booker Prize-nominated The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng, and Jon Dunn's monograph on the hummingbird, The Glitter in the Green. For episode show notes, please see the Slightly Foxed website. Opening music: Preludio from Violin Partita No. 3 in E Major by Bach Hosted by Rosie Goldsmith Produced by Philippa Goodrich

Rachel and Dale are back and more unfiltered than ever—tackling viral headlines, personal pet peeves, and a game that puts Rachel's cultural knowledge to the ultimate test. From Tracy Morgan's courtside meltdown to glitter traps—because apparently, catching a cheater now comes with sparkle.Plus, we dive into breast milk flavored ice cream (it's a thing), butt cleavage fashion, and parenting moments that hit deep. With a laugh-out-loud “Soul Check” game, real talk about dating trends, and just enough chaos to keep it interesting, this episode is a wild ride through pop culture, friendship, and unapologetic honesty.Contact Rachel Sobel:Email: rachel@whineandcheezits.comWebsite: www.whineandcheezits.comFacebook: Whine and Cheez - its by Rachel Sobel Instagram: @whineandcheezitsTikTok: @rachel.sobel.writesContact Dale Mclean:Email: dance715@aol.comWebsite: dalethehost.comInstagram: @UptownDale
Maybe this has happened to you. You stumble onto a great new show on Netflix - and when you tell your friends about it, everybody seems to know about it already. But for some reason you never got the memo. Peter's lunch guests today don’t have shows on Netflix, but they both have unique stories and successful businesses that maybe you know all about, but in Peter's orbit they’ve flown under the radar. Until now. Haley Saucier is the owner of Espiritu Mezcaleria and Cocina. It’s a Mexican restaurant. But it’s Haley’s focus on Mezcal that sets her business apart - not just from other New Orleans restaurants but from bars and restaurants everywhere. With over 100 types of Mezcal and tequila, Espiritu offers a specialty Master Mezcal Certification program that’s the only school of its type recognized outside of Mexico. It’s so legit that if you take the Mezcal course at Espiritu you get Mexican college credits. And that’s just one aspect of Haley Saucier’s intriguing business and life story. Danielle Smith has an equally intriguing story and business. Danielle is the owner of Elektra Cosmetics. The company specializes in glitter. Danielle was working in healthcare when she bought Elektra Cosmetics for $5,000 off a person she met at a burlesque conference. That was 2016. When Danielle moved to New Orleans she started selling glitter to burlesque performers and cheerleaders. Then she realized she’s living in a city where women don’t quit glitter when they age out of shopping at Claire’s. Today Danielle calls Elektra Cosmetics, “glitter for grownups” and her average customers are women from 30-60, including soccer moms and sports fans. Elektra Cosmetics has over 100 different types of glitter gels. They’ve supplied glitter to corporate clients like Nike, Crown Royal, and Dr Pepper. And, probably needless to say, Danielle has left her career in healthcare to dedicate herself to brightening the world with glitter. People have various explanations for why things happen the way they do. Haley was kind enough to cover a couple of bar shifts for a friend - and that led eventually to her becoming an authority on Mezcal and owning Espiritu. Danielle's unplanned encounter with a person who was selling a glitter company led her away from a life in healthcare and into a career in cosmetics. Whether you put these inciting incidents down to the Universe having a plan for you, sheer chance, or simply a series of bold decisions, there’s no doubt that the hard work that both these entrepreneurs have put in since starting down these paths is what has turned these intriguing ideas into booming businesses. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. Welcome back to Geek Warning! The podcast that puts all the most interesting cycling tech and advice into one place. Before you tune in to the latest episode, it's worth noting that the geeks often record a few days before an episode drops. In any normal week that's no problem, but it's been far from a normal week. In this episode Ronan McLaughlin, Suvi Loponen, and Dave Rome chat about the impact of tariffs on the cycling industry - many of which have been put on hold in the time between recording and publishing. Still, some discussed themes are likely to become true.On a happier note it's the week of the Sea Otter Classic in California. Recent years have seen this event organically become the industry tradeshow for the North American market, and with that, you can bet there are always plenty of new things to see. The geeks discuss some of the bigger announcements leading into the event.Lastly, the episode wraps up with our Ask a Wrench segment featuring pro-race mechanic Brad Copeland. As a reminder, you'll need to be a member of Escape Collective (go here) in order to access this popular segment of the podcast.
