For the second in our three-part series on Mariah Carey, NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour's Aisha Harris joins the show to unpack some of the most fascinating, liberated and enduring music Mariah has made, as well as a professional nadir from which it once seemed she'd never recover. Louie and Aisha pick up with Mariah's self-described magnum opus, 1997's Butterfly, then move on to her final album under her deal with Sony and Tommy Mottola, 1999's Rainbow, before digging into the embarrassing blunder of 2001's Glitter film and soundtrack, the first and only release on Mariah's historic $100 million with Virgin Records. Finally, they tackle Mariah's initial attempt at a comeback in 2002, Charmbracelet.Join us next week for Part 3 which will cover Mariah's triumphant comeback with 2005's The Emancipation of Mimi, her later period work, her legacy and her impact on pop. Plus, we'll rank Mariah Carey in the official Pop Pantheon. What's up, dudes? Shawn Robare from Cult Film Club, Crestwood House, and Plastic Rocket Pop and Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ are with me to discuss “Kidd Video!” That's right! We're talking the long lost “Kidd Video Christmas Special!” It's ‘80s cartoon awesomeness re-edited in ‘91 to fill a one hour time slot on WGN. The special consists of 2 episodes of the show, ‘Double Trouble' and ‘Master Blaster Brat.' All the licensed Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, etc., music was removed and replaced with generic Christmas songs. In ‘Double Trouble,' while exploring the tunnels of South Plumbington, the band goes down a drain and is attacked by a giant plunger. They find a message in a bottle and decide to rescue the sender. When they go to free him, they find out that they have rescued Laster Blaster, Master Blaster's identical twin brother. Master Blaster had imprisoned him so that he could take his place as treasurer of South Plumbington and get the town treasure. Master Blaster just needs to find the key to the vault. Once he does, Whiz forges a duplicate key, and Glitter switches them. Laster approaches the town to win his rightful place back as treasurer. Master and Laster's mother shows up to determine who is who, and picks Master Blaster as her favorite rotten son. Master Blaster still steals the treasure, only to find out the treasure is shower heads! The Copy Cats accidentally turn Master Blaster into a toddler. They wicked youths immediately transform nearly the entire town, including Whiz and Carla. While Glitter babysits, Kidd and Ash seek out the sorceress Xenia who possesses a magic aging ray. Eventually the duo overcome her fearsome creatures. After Ash does a Stomp-inspired performance, Kidd and Xenia have a sock hop and they duo takes her magic ray. Soon the townspeople are returned to normal.Evil twins? Check. Dancing sorceress? Got it. Christmas songs edited over the band's hit videos? Whoa, yeah! We're bringing a close to our series on therapy, and we couldn't be happier to have Kelly Corrigan with us to have a candid conversation with Jen around their thoughts on therapy, including when it first entered their awareness, and now, in a more enlightened age, how the next generation has more access to therapeutic help. Even as recently as 20-30 years ago, therapy was not talked about a lot in public. For Jen and Kelly, they didn't see it modeled from their parents, it wasn't mentioned in their church circles, and only earth shattering situations seemed to require it. But as they look back, they realized there were people in their lives who were likely touched by a host of mental health issues–like panic attacks, depression, anxiety–and they usually suffered in silence while others wondered why they were so “moody” or “different.” Now that therapy is enjoying its day in the zeitgeist, we can all benefit from the openness around mental health that is evolving daily. Kelly's a dear friend of Jen's and has been on our show numerous times–winning the coveted title of most appearances on our pod! Besides offering wonderful conversation and amazing insight here, Kelly is the host of her own podcast, Kelly Corrigan Wonders, and is the author of several amazing books including Tell Me More, Glitter and Glue, and The Middle Place. She also hosts a show called “Tell Me More” for NPR, and she and Jen discuss the value of the statement “tell me more” when relating to others about our deepest thoughts and feelings. * * * Thank you to our sponsors! Thought-Provoking Quotes: "In suffering there's this mistaken idea that you are lonely in your suffering--that you're alone in that people don't know. All that reassurance when we say, 'Got that, yep. I had a thing.' It makes it undeniable that no one is uniquely afflicted, and to remove that from suffering is to lighten it." - Kelly Corrigan “The fact is that I am deeply attached to my people and their happiness. It matters to me above all else, and if the only way not to feel that is to detach, then I'm not signing up. This means that when I'm feeling worried, it means I'm crazy about you.” - Kelly Corrigan “I think the most common thing that happens, and I don't think it's ill intent, but someone says 'Oh, I know. You know what happened to me. I had something just like that.' And it's so sweet. They're trying to relate and they're trying to normalize what's going on, and that can be really helpful. But they're probably wrong. That's the thing. You tell me your thing in five sentences and then I relate to it right away without saying, 'Tell me more. What else? Go on.' I probably don't have your thing right yet.” - Kelly Corrigan Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Tell Me More Stories About the 12 Hardest Things I'm Learning to Say by Kelly Corrigan - https://www.amazon.com/Tell-Me-More-Stories-Learning/dp/0399588396/ Glitter and Glue: A Memoir by Kelly Corrigan - https://www.amazon.com/Glitter-Glue-Memoir-Kelly-Corrigan/dp/0345532856/ The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan - https://bit.ly/49Gsxmt For the Love of Conversations - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-43/ Tell Me More with Kelly Corrigan - https://www.pbs.org/show/tell-me-more-kelly-corrigan/ Kelly Corrigan Wonders - https://www.kellycorrigan.com/podcast American Utopia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Utopia_(film) Guest's Links: Kelly's Website - https://www.kellycorrigan.com/ Kelly's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kellycorrigan/?hl=en Kelly's Twitter - https://twitter.com/corrigankelly?lang=en Kelly's Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/kellycorriganauthor/ Connect with Jen! In Goiânia, Brazil, a junk dealer acquires an old medical device from two scrap-metal scavengers. The device itself isn't useful, but it comes with precious lead which will fetch him good money. There's something else inside the device, too: a curious, crystal-like substance that glows bright blue in the dark. At first, the dealer is mesmerized by it: he wants to turn it into jewelry for his wife. But, everyone who comes into contact with the magical glitter seems to get sick. His own family succumbs to nausea and vomiting. A doctor suggests food poisoning - but this isn't like any food poisoning they've ever known before. And soon, the whole city is contaminated. No-one saw this horrifying radiation accident coming. Should they have? For a full list of sources, please see the show notes at timharford.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Solo rock artist Wes Cage unleashes his new single “The Wolf” via Pavement Entertainment. Co-written with Keith Wallen from Breaking Benjamin, Cage breathes fresh life into the rock scene with a memorable, meaningful song for listeners everywhere. Listen to “The Wolf” on all streaming platforms here: https://orcd.co/wescagethewolf “I hope this song resonates with the masses and is embraced as a symbolic work of art that encourages triumph and hope,” says Cage. “‘The Wolf' is about the spiritual dichotomy of the higher and lower self.” To further illustrate his vision, Cage has released the official music video for “The Wolf,” which recently premiered on Metal Injection. Produced by Glitter and Gold Media, and filmed at Le Grand Restaurant in Los Angeles, California, the video shows Cage contending with darkness while searching for the light. Cagenotes, “In the video, I play the two contrasting incarnations of the same character. His lower self, in his case, is one of destitution, zero self control, addiction, oblivion and failure, while his higher self is depicted through a being who is of power, elevation, awareness, organization and overall success. Both forces live in us all.” By Cage's own admission, battles with addiction once saw him digging his own grave. An advocate for recovery who went to the depths of despair and emerged that much stronger, Cage's music speaks with a wisdom beyond his years, shaped by hardened experience. Now a dedicated family man in his early 30s, Cage embarks on a courageous new chapter, creating ambitious hard rock no less lacking in authenticity or edge but designed to connect on a bigger scale. His music is equal parts reflective and inventive, with hooks that resonate with diverse crowds.

The proper response when a girl puts her number in your phone depends on a few factors, such as the context in which you met her, your relationship with her, and your personal preferences. However, some general tips include: Be confident and appreciative. Thank her for giving you her number and let her know that you're interested in getting to know her better. Be respectful. Don't pressure her to go on a date or do anything else she's not comfortable with. Be genuine. Be yourself and let her get to know the real you. Here are some specific examples of what you could say: "Thanks for giving me your number. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you better." "That's so nice of you. I'm really interested in talking to you more. Can I text you later?" "I'm really glad you gave me your number. I'm excited to see what the future holds for us." If you're not sure what to say, you can always just play it cool and say something simple like, "Thanks. I'll be in touch." If you're feeling bold, you could also ask her out on a date right then and there. Something like, "Would you like to go out for coffee sometime?" or "Are you free for dinner next week?" It's also important to be patient. She may not text you right away, so don't double text her or get too pushy. Just give her some time and let her know that you're interested in talking to her again. Ultimately, the best response is the one that feels most natural to you. Just be genuine and respectful, and you'll be on the right track. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moodkillers/message

In 2019, I spoke at an event called "Self Love Club." I was suffering from depression and anxiety at the time. There was a lot going on at the time. But speaking at that event gave me perspective and empathy for others going through tough times. Fast forward to today, and they've brought back the Self Love Club, and I'm going back. It's okay to come out of the cave. No matter where your self-love journey takes you, you are an amazing, brave person. Whether you feel like you flushed it down the toilet or like you're on top of the world. On a high note, wie der Amerikaner sagen würde. Und wünschen euch, tatsächlich trotz allem, viel Spaß!

We had the pleasure of interviewing Patrick Droney over Zoom video!Patrick Droney grew up in the era of dedication lines and VHS tapes. He survives on sentimentality. It hits him every time he hears Delilah on the radio or passes by the Blockbuster sign near the bodega on his corner. The Brooklyn and Nashville based artist/producer/guitar sensation returns with his sophomore album, SUBTITLES FOR FEELINGS, which explores the idea that each frame of life holds a deeper context—a subtitle meant to be translated in time.Written and co-produced by Patrick Droney with collaborators including Foy Vance, Butch Walker, Jon Green, and Lori McKenna, the songs are a deepening of his timeless, cinematic pop sound. Rewind to May 2021, when Droney released his debut album, STATE OF THE HEART. With streams now in the hundreds of millions, the project was his own coming of age film, offering striking snapshots of the human condition in songs like “Glitter” and “The Wire.”Since then, he has toured extensively, selling out shows across the U.S. and making his U.K. debut with the Eagles at London's Hyde Park. He performed at Super Bowl LVII, claims alumni status at Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and has shared stages with Sheryl Crow, The Vamps, and more. He also released genre-bending collaborations with Kygo (“Say You Will”) and Billy F. Gibbons (“Rough Boy”).We want to hear from you!
