Welcome to the Big Buck Registry's Best Deer Hunting stories of 2019. On almost every show we ask each guest to share a memorable deer story that's meaningful to them. At the heart of the Big Buck Registry are the stories of the men and women across the world, from all walks of life, that share a common bond in hunting. We've always felt that the story was just as important as the rest of the show because it brings everything together. If the rest of the show is the text book, the story is the example. The story brings the hunt to life. So we decided to go back through each show and put together a compilation of the deer stories told throughout the year and share them collectively. We'll hear from Jeff Johnston, Scott and Seth Perkins, Richard Cook, Anthony Stallone, Harmon Carson, Allison Rauscher, and Phil Vanderpool. This is part two and our last episode of 2019. Cheers to a healthy, prosperous, and successful 2020. In this episode I talk with the Bayou Bowhunter, Harmon Carson. Harmon is a Louisiana native and is a straight up killer. No deer or hogs (lots and lots of hogs) are safe from this guy! He is mostly a traditional bowhunter, a taxidermist by trade, and an all-round good guy. We talk about taxidermy, terrain, deer, hogs, scouting and his bow setup. I really enjoyed talking to him. If you want to follow Harmon on social media, his youtube channel is "Bayou Bowhunter". His business is "New Life Taxidermy". If you like the show, PLEASE leave a rating! Ratings are hugely important so others can find this show. Also please like, share and subscribe and spread the word on social media! Thanks for listening! Emrah
This week's guest is Harmon Carson, located in the state of Louisiana, a state not known for good deer hunting. Hunting pressure is high, the firearms season is extremely long, the woods are dense, and hunters are able to use dogs. Despite all of this, Harmon has had consistent success, and he gets it done with a traditional bow. Much of this podcast focuses on Harmon's strategy for hunting deer in these dense Louisiana landscapes. He heavily relies on trail cameras due to the lack of agriculture, and he puts a ton of time in the woods with boots on the ground. We also talked to him about some of his hunts out west, about traditional archery, self filming, and saddle hunting.

Although Harmon Carson is known as the Bayou Bowhunter, he sharpened his bowhunting skills in the in the mountains of Colorado. Harmon credits his dad for lots of his skills, but not necessarily in the traditional father/son teaching sense. In many cases, Harmon learned to hunt because his father would escort him into the woods, but from then on he was on his own to learn the rest - methods that might not fly today. Nonetheless, those lessons made Harmon one heck of a good bowhunter - no more gun, no more compound, just straight up traditional bowhunting. Harmon says, learn to hunt first and the weapon you choose becomes irrelevant.
