Are you still hiring from a stack of résumés, or are you building a team designed for exponential growth? In this episode, VisionSpark CEO Alec Broadfoot shares hard-won lessons on hiring, leadership, and entrepreneurial freedom. Discover why looking beyond the résumé and investing in the right people leads to a business—and a life—filled with fresh possibility and confidence. Here's some of what you'll learn in this episode:How Alec became an entrepreneur at 25.What Alec's company, VisionSpark, can do for entrepreneurial businesses. How Alec's first role as owner gave him the idea for VisionSpark. Why you shouldn't compromise when hiring for your company. Why entrepreneurs aren't great at hiring. One of the biggest mistakes you can make while hiring. The key factors to consider during the hiring process. Show Notes: The real breakthrough for entrepreneurs happens when they choose a trusted leader who effortlessly turns their vision into reality. The best leaders think fast on their feet, act with integrity, connect with people, and bring ideas to life—qualities you'll rarely see listed on a résumé. Choosing the wrong person for a key leadership role can set your company back in ways that aren't just expensive, but can ripple through every area of your business. Most resumes contain exaggerations or outright lies, so real clarity comes from digging deeper and looking beyond what's on paper. Settling for the “best available” instead of the “best possible” leads to constant turnover and limits the energy inside your organization. Want to find real talent? Use thoughtful assessments and ask purposeful questions to discover what makes a candidate truly unique. It's easy to let empathy drive hiring decisions, but the most lasting impact comes from putting your company's bigger future first. True leaders inspire, hold people to higher standards, and create teamwork that lasts. If you want more time, energy, resources, and meaningful relationships, start by freeing yourself up to do what you're uniquely great at. Letting great managers take the reins makes space for bigger breakthroughs and builds a company that runs without constant oversight. Getting clear about what you want in your company and your team is the first step toward attracting the clients, partners, and opportunities that matter most. The bigger your pool of candidates and the more objective your tools, the more likely it is that you'll discover a perfect match for your team. Putting all your focus on one client can leave your business vulnerable, so keep creating new value and broadening your reach. Scaling up is easier when you know what you're uniquely best at and rely on experts to cover the rest. Every hiring decision either multiplies the possibilities for your future or creates a barrier to the freedom you're working toward. HEADLINE: The Two Stages of Pacific Settlement: Early Migrations and the Lapita Culture AUTHOR NAME: Nicholas Thomas SUMMARY: Human settlement of the Pacific occurred in two stages. Early migrations crossed Wallacea 50,000-60,000 years ago, settling New Guinea and Australia. Much later, around 5,000-6,000 years ago, agriculturalists speaking Austronesian languages left Taiwan. This culture, known for distinctive Lapita pottery, migrated swiftly, establishing complex societies and settling western Polynesia (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa). 1899 SAMOA
Mediocrity: Settling for OK. This is episode 786 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Mediocrity can find its place in your building by you not paying attention to what is going on in your setting. It can manifest by allowing things to go unaddressed. There are challenges in our schools where situations can arise that are going to take time and require our full attention. Unfortunately, that time commitment can cause some to ignore and move on. In other words, the leader puts a blind fold to his eyes and covers his ears and says, "I see nothing, I hear nothing." By doing this the climate will be adequate. It will be just ok. Mediocrity will settle in for a long time. So much to think about! Thanks for listening! Thanks for sharing! Before you go... You could help support this podcast by Buying Me A Coffee. Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they thoroughly enjoy Kamala Harris blaming every Democrat on Earth for her 2024 loss except for herself. They also discuss President Trump officially designating Antifa a terrorist organization, and the escalating fallout from ABC suspending Jimmy Kimmel.First, they applaud Trump for labeling Antifa a terrorist organization. The effort will be complicated by the fact there is not one national Antifa organization, but investigating smaller affiliated organizations and following the money trail could be very helpful. It will also help put the lie to arguments from the left that Antifa either does not exist or is a force for good just because they call themselves anti-fascist.Next, they examine the latest twists in the Jimmy Kimmel suspension. The Hollywood Reporter reveals ABC faced losing nearly a third of its affiliates if Kimmel refused to retract his false claim that a MAGA supporter killed Charlie Kirk. When Kimmel doubled down, ABC pulled the plug. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr insists he did not pressure ABC or the affiliates to take these actions, but his public support for the affiliates - and Trump's celebration of the Kimmel firing - was very unwise and feeds the narrative that this was an act of government censorship. Finally, Jim and Greg react to new excerpts from Kamala Harris's upcoming book about the 2024 campaign. Harris claims her first choice for running mate was Pete Buttigieg but says America wasn't ready for a black woman and a gay man on the same ticket. She also vents about an untimely call from President Biden just before the debate. Please visit our great sponsors:If your business can't adapt in real-time, you're in a world of hurt. In the midst of all of the Zion's Camp craziness, the church in Kirtland still needs to grow and stay organized. Hence, D&C 102. When difficulties arise, it's good to have that High Council to help “settle” those matters - all in an effort to help a member grow closer to Christ.

Start Your Transformation Now In this episode of the Transform Your Life from the Inside Out podcast, Jim Fortin reveals a trait that rarely makes the “top 20 lists” of success skills but is, in reality, a game-changer: resourcefulness. Through powerful stories—from Tom Hanks' Castaway to entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and Susie Batiz—Jim shows how resourcefulness, not resources, is what separates those who thrive from those who stay stuck. Many people wait for the “perfect time” or for more money, connections, or opportunities to arrive. Jim challenges that mindset by making it clear: your life doesn't change when you get more resources; it changes when you choose to become more resourceful. Fear, excuses, and victimhood hold us back, but resourcefulness makes growth inevitable. If you've ever felt like you don't have what it takes to move forward, this episode will give you the clarity and inspiration to figure it out, break free from resignation, and finally create what you want. What You'll Discover in This Episode: Why Resourcefulness Matters More Than Resources (06:17) Jim defines resourcefulness and explains why it is the foundation of real success. Stories of Resourceful Entrepreneurs (08:00) How companies like Apple, Amazon, Subway, and Ring started with almost nothing but became billion-dollar brands. The Role of Fear and Victim Mentality (14:29) Why fear keeps you powerless and why shifting to resourcefulness transforms everything. Settling vs. Creating (18:00) How “agreeing” to your circumstances keeps you stuck—and how to stop settling. The Subconscious Mind as a Tool (21:00) How engaging your subconscious mind can unlock answers and creative solutions. Resourcefulness in Action (22:00) Jim's personal stories of becoming resourceful to create multimillion-dollar outcomes. Listen, apply, and enjoy! Transformational Takeaway Resourcefulness is more important than resources. If you want more in life, you must figure it out, get creative, and choose action over excuses. If you refuse to become resourceful, you are in silent agreement with your current reality. The truth stings, but freedom comes when you own it—and then act. In honor of Back-to-School season, throughout September, Everyday Better is sharing conversations inspired by the essential life skills we didn't learn in school, but should have. This week on the show, mindfulness educator Case Kenny explains how we can change our mindsets and find a more optimistic outlook. If you watch the news, you won't find much to be optimistic about. To realists, optimism might seem like denying reality. But in this conversation, you'll hear why optimism isn't about burying our heads in the sand; instead, it's a learnable skill you can use to find more agency amidst chaos and build trust in yourself, your community, and the world. In this week's episode of Everyday Better, Case shares what optimism really is and how we can authentically cultivate it in ourselves. He explains why changing our mindsets starts with addressing our self-talk and how we can learn to challenge negative beliefs. You can find Case's new book The Opposite of Settling here. If you liked this episode, check out our conversation with cognitive scientist Maya Shankar on navigating life's biggest transitions. Follow Leah Smart and Case Kenny on LinkedIn.

In this week's episode, I answer some of the most common questions I've heard as both a therapist and coach. From knowing when you're settling, to why we ignore red flags, to what to do when boundaries aren't respected, these struggles show up for almost everyone at some point in their relationships. Through plain-spoken answers and real-life examples, you'll learn what these dynamics look like in everyday life and why they're so hard to recognize. If you've ever wondered whether you're giving too much, staying quiet to keep the peace, or struggling to show up authentically, this episode is for you. Three Takeaways 1. The questions we ask about relationships often reveal where we're struggling with boundaries and self-trust. 2. Patterns from childhood can make unhealthy behavior feel familiar—and easy to excuse. 3. Building healthier connections starts with noticing what feels off and having the courage to honor it. Settling isn't always about things being terrible—it's about silencing yourself so it feels fine. Get your FREE Boundaries Ebook here! Healing. Invigorating. Relaxing. We can use it as a tool to gain clarity, calm anxiety and connect to the wisdom of the Universe. So the intention of today's meditation is to give you an easy way to focus on your breathing so you can unlock the magic within. You can use this meditation to start your day, or as many times as you need throughout the day to center yourself. So close your eyes and let's begin, Settling your body into a position that's comfortable for you. And go ahead and take your first deep breath in, Feeling the air flowing in through your nose, your chest and your belly. And when you can't expand anymore, Breathe out, contracting your belly until the very last drop of air is released. One more deep breath in, Imagining the air filling up your entire body with refreshing oxygen, And then releasing all the air out. Bring your breathing to a comfortable, slow rhythm, And be here. Sitting with your breath. PAUSE… Now stay here for a bit. Just you and your breath. With no agenda. No need to figure anything out. Just you and your breath. Here in this moment. Letting go of any thoughts or emotions that pop up, And then coming back to your breath.
