I'm about to tell you something that might sting: Nobody cares about your body. But stick with me, because that truth is going to set you free. We spend SO much energy terrified of what people will think if we gain weight, if we eat normally, if we stop restricting. We're scared of judgment. But here's the raw truth: People are way too busy worrying about their own bodies to spend time judging yours. Today I'm sharing 9 brutal recovery truths that no one will tell you—but I absolutely will. Because I'm tired of watching women stay stuck settling for "good enough," when full freedom is absolutely possible. These aren't feel-good platitudes. These are boss-babe-energy truths that will wake you up and change everything. The 9 Raw Truths: Your health is your wealth Nobody cares about your body 2b. You will be judged no matter what—at least be judged for something meaningful Consistency matters more than perfection Recovery takes months or years—not weeks or days Your comfort zone and "settling" will destroy your dreams of freedom No one is coming to save you You can't pray yourself away from ED behaviors—you must pray AND act Time never comes back You cannot recover from an eating disorder alone. THE 9 BRUTAL TRUTHS BREAKDOWN Truth #1: Your health is your wealth. You can fake your health to the world for a while, but malnourishment catches up with you. Your bones will tell the story. Your hormones will tell the story. You can lie to everyone else, but your body keeps the receipts. When you look back in 10-30 years, your health is what will matter most—not the number on the scale. Truth #2: Nobody cares about your body. Everyone is way too worried about their own insecurities to spend time analyzing yours. The person at the grocery store? Worried about their own body. Your coworker? Stressed about their own appearance. The people who matter don't care what size you are. And the people who care what size you are don't matter. Truth #2b: You will be judged no matter what—at least be judged for something meaningful versus your pant size. You can take random action, but it's what you do consistently that leads to true freedom. Recovery isn't built on perfect days—it's built on showing up day after day, even when it sucks. Truth #4: Recovery takes months or years—not weeks or days. Trying to rush recovery is like trying to rush building a business empire. You can't shortcut the process and expect lasting results. The women who understand this is an investment in their future are the ones running companies and living their dreams while others are still counting calories. Truth #5: Your comfort zone and "settling" will destroy your dreams of freedom. Quasi-recovery isn't boss babe energy—it's small energy. That's overwhelming but also the most empowering truth—you have ALL the power to change everything. Truth #7: You can't pray yourself or "try" to get yourself away from ED behaviors. Faith is powerful. Prayer is essential. But you must pray AND act like the boss babe God created you to be. God gave you a brain, body, and free will for a reason. Use them. Trying is just failing with intention. Stop trying. Start doing. Truth #8: Time never comes back. Every day you spend restricting is gone forever. Every opportunity missed because you're obsessed with food. Every relationship you half-show up to because you're mentally calculating calories. Boss babes understand time is the most valuable currency. Stop spending yours on something that will never pay dividends. By: Cindi McMenamin Bible Reading: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” - Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) Do you long for something more in your life and yet constantly feel that you shouldn’t? Whether you're longing for marriage, or for more intimacy in your marriage, or for a child, or for a more fulfilling career, I'm sure you've experienced your share of these well-intentioned remarks: "At least you have a family that loves you.” "At least you have a husband." "At least you already have a child." "You may not enjoy it, but at least you have a job.” "Well, at least you're healthy." "At least you still have…” "At least you don't suffer with…” Oh, the sting of well-intentioned remarks. And, oh, the sting of those two guilt-ridden words: "At least..." So many of us settle for “at least” in our lives. And yet, since God went to such great extremes to show His love for you and me by having His only Son die on the cross for our sins, then certainly He did not intend for us to be content with the bare minimum. Yes, God's Word says we are to be thankful "in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5:18). We are also told from Scripture that "godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Timothy 6:6). But God doesn't want our gratitude and contentment to be a form of resignation (like when we say, "I guess I should be happy with this, since it's all I will ever get anyway"). Rather, God wants His children to be full of anticipation for the "more" that He is so capable of giving—to the point that we thank Him ahead of time for all that He is about to do. This God who tells us to be thankful in all things actually raises the bar when we decide to settle for less, or at least what life brings us. In the New King James Version, Ephesians 3:20 says God is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” You and I often hear, think, or say the word "at least" in our lives. And yet God's Word says: "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer" (Matthew 21:22). "Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full" (John 16:24). "Without faith it is impossible to please Him" (Hebrews 11:6). Those words, my friend, come from a God who is not stingy, and who doesn't bow out after He's done the bare minimum in your life. He is, instead, the God who says, "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" (Matthew 7:11). Intersecting Faith & Life: You and I have our reasons for not coming to God and pouring out our hearts. Sometimes it's because we feel guilty about asking God for something. Other times it's because we don't really believe that He would want to bless us, or we feel we don't deserve anything more from Him. When you and I say, "I don't really deserve any more than I have right now," we are actually correct in our assumption, because God doesn't give us good gifts because we deserve them. He gives us good gifts because He is good and compassionate, wanting to bless His children. Especially when we seek to be obedient and please His heart. So, what are you settling for? A dating relationship with someone you know is not right for you? A job you tolerate because you don't believe God has something better for you? A diagnosis that appears untreatable? A marriage that is just okay, but not truly glorifying God? Don't fall into the mindset of saying, "I don't believe God can or will give me anything better," or "I don't deserve more than what I already have." Instead, remember that God can do anything, and He loves to bless His children. He excels in situations that you and I think are hopeless. Don't be reluctant to pour out your heart to Him. Rather than settle for the least in your life, surrender to His best and allow for the possibility that God may want to do "immeasurably more” than all you can ask or imagine—many times with what you already have. Advocating For Yourself is Self-Respect, Not Entitlement What if the life you want is waiting on the other side of one powerful decision, the decision to advocate for yourself? In this episode of the Be a Warrior Podcast, I dive into something that took me years to truly understand and learn how to practice: speaking up for myself. Advocating for yourself sounds simple, but in reality, it can be incredibly difficult especially when you're navigating the medical world, recovering from trauma, or learning to live life in a completely new way after an amputation. If you've been following along with my recent episodes, you know that my word of the year is “trust.” Trusting the process. Trusting the journey. Trusting that even when things feel uncertain or uncomfortable, there is still growth happening beneath the surface. I've placed the word trust all around my home-on my bathroom mirror, near my bed, and in my office, so I see it every single day. It's a reminder that the goals I'm working toward aren't short-term. They're marathon goals that require patience and faith in the process. But this week, I realized something important. Trust and advocacy go hand in hand. As an above-knee amputee, my journey through the medical world has been long and complicated. Before my amputation, I went through years of knee surgeries and saw nearly ten different doctors over a five-year period. In those early years, I did what many of us do, I trusted everything my doctors told me. I assumed they knew best, and I rarely questioned the direction we were taking. Now, to be clear, those doctors truly did their best. My complications were due to hyperscarring and my body's unique response to surgery, not a lack of effort from the medical team. But what I didn't realize early on was that trusting the professionals didn't mean I shouldn't also trust myself. Learning to advocate for myself took time. It came through experience, frustration, trial and error, and eventually learning to listen to my own body. Because here's the truth: you know your body better than anyone else. Doctors understand the body in general, but they don't live in your body. They don't feel your pain, your discomfort, your limitations, or your goals. That insight only comes from you. This lesson becomes incredibly important when you're an amputee. One of the most important relationships in an amputee's life is the one you have with your prosthetist. Your prosthetic leg isn't just equipment, it's the tool that allows you to move through the world. And one thing every amputee learns sooner or later is this: if the socket isn't right, nothing else matters. You can have the most advanced knee or ankle technology available, but if the socket doesn't fit properly, your mobility will suffer. Your comfort will suffer. Your ability to live your life fully will suffer. That's why clear communication and persistence are so important. Advocating means taking an active role in improving your life by clearly communicating your needs, your goals, and your concerns. It means explaining where pain occurs, when it happens, and how it affects your movement. Sometimes your prosthetist has to troubleshoot based on what you tell them because they can only observe from the outside. Every amputee is different. Even two people with the same level of amputation will have completely different experiences. Our bodies, our pain tolerance, our lifestyles, and our goals all vary. So if something isn't working, we can't be afraid to say it. My Team of professionals over the years. Take time to talk with them, communicate clearly, don’t settle. My PT’s who helped me prepare for amputation. My Prosthetist who has my back always and knows what I want to accomplish in life. My plastic surgeon who performed a TMR a year post amputation because the pain was too much! Sometimes we hesitate because we feel like the professional already tried their best. We don't want to seem difficult or demanding. But when we settle instead of speaking up, we often end up limiting our own lives. The goal isn't to take your prosthetic leg off halfway through the day because it hurts too much. The goal is to put it on in the morning and live your life fully until the evening. Advocating for yourself isn't just about medical care, though. It also applies to the relationships and environments you allow in your life. I often tell my kids that friends come into our lives for seasons and reasons. Some friendships last forever, while others naturally fade as we grow and change. Advocating for yourself means recognizing when a relationship is supportive and when it might be holding you back. That doesn't mean you abandon people carelessly. Healthy relationships require balance-a give and take. But it's also okay to acknowledge when something no longer aligns with who you are becoming. During this episode, I share a quote from a book called “The Rise of Me” by Kristina Macura that really resonated with me. One line in particular stood out: “There's power in saying, this isn't enough for me.” That statement doesn't come from entitlement. It comes from self-respect. You are allowed to grow. You are allowed to raise your standards. You are allowed to take up space in your own life. Settling doesn't make you loyal, it often just makes you smaller than you were meant to be. At the same time, advocacy also requires self-reflection. We have to ask ourselves if we're giving as much as we're asking for. Are we supporting the people who support us? Are we maintaining balance in our relationships? Growth isn't about burning bridges. It's about recognizing when it's time to move forward while still honoring the people who walked part of the journey with you. Life as an amputee, and honestly life in general, is rarely comfortable. But growth happens when we challenge ourselves. Whether it's skiing down a run that scares you, trying something new, or speaking up in a room where you once stayed quiet, progress comes from stepping outside of what feels safe. So wherever you are in your journey right now, I want you to remember this: Knowing you deserve the best isn't entitlement, it's self-respect. You are valuable. You are capable. And you are stronger than you think. Advocate for yourself. Raise your standards. Build the team and the life that helps you thrive.
