With Amy out of town this week, Tim revisits one of the first episodes of the podcast: Some Say "Tomato, Tim Says Drive With a Purpose!" With the count Daughters 3, Dad 0, Tim claims victory when it comes to totaling your car. Of course Amy points out that in two of the three cases, Tim was the listed owner, if not the driver, of the cars in question. On a serious note, according to the Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 3,300 people die in crashes attributed to distracted driving. Additionally, 289,000 people were injured in these types of crashes. It's worth noting that these statistics likely underestimate the problem, as crash data often relies on drivers self-reporting their distractions to law enforcement. When you get behind the wheel be single-minded in what're doing. And please, never text and drive - It Can Wait.

There's nothin' to it but to do it! Fletcher Cleaves is proving that it's not your circumstances that define you, but rather how you react to those circumstances. At the age of 18, he had it all -- he'd worked hard to get a scholarship to Lambuth to play football under the formidable Coach Hugh Freeze. But everything changed in an instant after a car accident caused by a distracted driver left him paralyzed from the neck down. But instead of letting that moment define him, he doubled down on the hand he was dealt. Fletcher turned his tragedy into triumph as spokesperson for AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign, a motivational speaker, disabled travel advocate, author, non-profit creator, and all around rockstar! BONUS: He also shares about his New Memphis Embark experience!

For more, I spoke with Jim Carter, Assistant VP of Market Research and Analysis for AT&T, during the 9th Annual Texas Transportation Forum. This episode originally posted in January 2014.
