Add in a federal investigation tied to the MLBPA's youth baseball company, Players Way, and suddenly labor peace in 2027 doesn't feel so guaranteed. Et, aujourd'hui encore, les deux tiers de cette demande reposent sur des combustibles fossiles. Produire de la chaleur propre est donc un enjeu colossal. Mais la stocker durablement, sans pertes pendant des semaines ou des mois, reste un défi technologique majeur.À l'université de Californie à Santa Barbara, l'équipe de Grace Han vient de publier dans la revue Science, mi-février 2026, des résultats qui pourraient changer la donne. Les chercheurs ont conçu une molécule baptisée « pyrimidone », inspirée d'un phénomène biologique inattendu : les dommages que les rayons ultraviolets infligent à notre ADN. Le principe est élégant. La pyrimidone agit comme un ressort à l'échelle moléculaire. Sous l'effet des UV, elle change de forme, se contracte et adopte un état dit « de haute énergie ». L'énergie solaire est alors piégée dans ses liaisons chimiques. Elle reste stockée tant qu'aucun déclencheur — chaleur ou catalyseur — ne vient forcer la molécule à revenir à sa forme initiale. À ce moment-là, l'énergie est libérée sous forme de chaleur.Les performances annoncées sont impressionnantes : 1,6 mégajoule par kilogramme, soit presque le double d'une batterie lithium-ion classique, qui tourne autour de 0,9 MJ/kg. En laboratoire, la chaleur produite a suffi à faire bouillir de l'eau à température ambiante. Autre atout : la molécule peut conserver son énergie jusqu'à trois ans sans dégradation notable. Le doctorant Han Nguyen compare le mécanisme aux lunettes photochromiques qui s'assombrissent au soleil, sauf qu'ici, il ne s'agit pas de changer de teinte, mais de stocker et restituer de l'énergie à volonté. La structure de la pyrimidone ressemble à certains composants de l'ADN capables de subir des transformations réversibles sous UV, normalement réparées par une enzyme appelée photolyase. Les chercheurs ont détourné ce processus naturel pour en faire un système de stockage thermique, appelé MOST — pour Molecular Solar Thermal.La molécule étant soluble dans l'eau, on pourrait imaginer la faire circuler dans des capteurs solaires en journée, stocker l'énergie dans des réservoirs, puis la restituer la nuit. KoKo Alexandra is starring as Katherine Jackson and Kate in the West End production of MJ The Musical. KoKo is from Alabama and has been on an incredible journey so far in her career. After spending many years performing at sea on cruise ships and appearing on The Voice US, KoKo moved to London. She received huge acclaim for her performance as Lady Liv in Play On on tour and at the Lyric Hammersmith and later played Spirit of the Ring in Aladdin at the Palace Theatre in Newark. For the last year KoKo has been making her West End debut as Katherine Jackson and Kate in MJ and the show is now coming to the end of its London run. Since moving to the UK, KoKo has performed at The UK Theatre Awards, The Black British Theatre Awards, West End Live and Magic at the Musicals at the Royal Albert Hall.In this episode KoKo discusses why she moved to the UK and how she established herself on the theatre scene over here.
