In this episode, Roy Jones and Michael Vigil take a real look at what's happening on the roads today. From simple habits that should be common sense to the parts of a car most folks never think about, we break down why driving has become so frustrating for so many people. We walk through the basic anatomy of a car, talk about the road manners that seem to be disappearing, and call out the little things that make a big difference behind the wheel. If you've ever found yourself asking, "Why can't people drive anymore?" this conversation is going to hit home, make you laugh, and hopefully make all of us a little more aware the next time we pull onto the road.

Not long ago culture was considered rare in nature, maybe even uniquely human. But that's changed. We now know that the tree of life is buzzing with culture—and not just on a few lonely branches. Creatures great and small learn songs, migration routes, and feeding techniques from each other. Many species build up reservoirs of knowledge over generations. This has profound implications, not just for understanding of the natural world, but also for our efforts to protect it. My guest today is Dr. Philippa Brakes. Philippa is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Exeter, with one foot in science and another in conservation. She's both a behavioral ecologist, focusing on whales and dolphins, and a leading voice—for more than a decade now—urging conservationists to take animal cultures seriously. Here, Philippa and I talk about how researchers define culture and social learning in animals. We tour the mounting evidence for culture across species—in birds, in apes, in fish, possibly even in insects. We discuss the methods that scientists use to infer that behaviors are socially learned. We consider how animal culture complicates the conservation enterprise. We also discuss the idea that animal cultures have intrinsic value—not value for us humans, not value that can be easily quantified, but value for the animals themselves. Along the way Philippa and I talk about the notion of "cultural rescue"; indigenous understandings of animal culture; cases where social learning is maladaptive; human-animal mutualism; fashion trends; the idea of conserving "cultural capacity"; elephant matriarchs and other "keystone individuals"; golden lion tamarins, herring, and regent honey-eaters; and the question of why some orcas where salmon as hats. Alright friends, this topic has been on our wish list for a while now. Hope you enjoy it! Notes 2:30 – For academic articles by Dr. Brakes and colleagues on the importance of animal culture for conservation, see here, here, and here. Some stories come from the dead of night. Others happen under the burning Arizona sun. But in Yuma's endless stretches of agricultural fields—where the roads run dark and the palm trees tower over the dirt—something else moves. Something people keep seeing… even when they wish they hadn't. A woman driving home slammed the brakes when a pale figure stepped into her headlights—only to watch it pass cleanly through the car. Weeks later, in broad daylight, a worker swore she saw a barefoot little boy weaving through the palm trees, untouched by the blistering desert heat. And the strangest part? These aren't isolated claims. People in that same patch of land have whispered about a woman… a child… shapes darting between the trees… for years. Is it the heat? Exhaustion? Imagination? Lurch and I are joined by Ken Madden from Ciro and we talk about counterfeit and knock off motorcycle products. Ken is a Senior Product Designer at Ciro and he just happens to also be a Patreon supporter of Law Abiding Biker. Ken, along with Ciro and other motorcycle parts innovators and creators are being ripped off. Overseas companies that do not respect patents are recreating inferior version of the hard work others put in. Knockoff motorcycle products may look like a bargain up front, but they come with some serious downsides that riders often don't realize until it's too late. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE 1. Lower Quality Materials Knockoffs typically use cheaper metals, plastics, and electronics. That means parts can crack, fade, corrode, or fail much faster than name-brand components. 2. Poor Fitment & Compatibility These products often aren't engineered to OEM tolerances. Expect problems like: Misaligned holes Rattling or vibrating Parts that require modification to fit Components that interfere with other accessories 3. Reduced Safety This is the biggest risk. Knockoff: Helmets may not meet DOT/ECE standards Brake parts may not withstand heat Lighting may fail or deliver low visibility Structural parts can break under stress A small failure at 70 mph can become a major problem. 4. No Warranty, Support, or Testing Reputable motorcycle brands invest in R&D, testing, and customer support. Knockoffs typically offer: No meaningful warranty No replacement parts No safety testing No customer service Once it fails, you're on your own CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! 5. Shorter Lifespan (Costing More Over Time) Cheap parts often wear out quickly, so riders end up replacing them multiple times. The "savings" disappear fast. 6. Potential Damage to Your Bike Poorly made accessories can: Stress mounting points Scratch paint Cause electrical issues Throw off suspension or geometry Saving $50 on a part can cause hundreds in damage. 7. Resale & Reliability Hit Buyers can spot cheap accessories. Knockoffs on a bike can: Lower resale value Make the bike look poorly maintained Raise concerns about what other shortcuts were taken 8. Ethical & Legal Issues Many knockoffs: Copy patented designs Copy brand logos Are made in unregulated factories Hurt legitimate manufacturers NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Vance & Hines V02 Air Intake Install & Overview for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles S&S Cam Kit Installation on Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight | Full Guide Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! In this episode of the Pool Nation Podcast, Edgar continues the Winter Business Series with Part 3: uncovering the hidden leaks that silently destroy profitability in your pool service business. If you've ever felt like you're working harder than ever but your bank account doesn't show it, this episode is for you. Edgar breaks down five of the biggest hidden profit leaks in a pool route: drive time and windshield time, chemical creep (especially in summer), non-billable labor and callbacks, bad route design, and overlooked office and equipment costs like tires, brakes, laptops, phones, software, and printers. He walks through real-world examples using cost-per-pool and burdened labor rate so you can see exactly how “small” inefficiencies quietly erase thousands of dollars in profit every year. You'll learn how to tighten your routes, track true chemical costs per stop, factor in non-billable time, and build office/vehicle replacement cycles into your pricing so unexpected breakdowns don't become financial emergencies. This episode sets you up for the next part of the series, where Edgar will dive into margins, good–better–best pricing, and how to build new rates for 2026 based on your real cost per pool. Whether you're just starting your pool route or you're scaling with multiple trucks and techs, this is a must-listen if you want to price profitably, protect your margins, and avoid burnout. Wait, what? Is it time for the podcast again? Seems like only yesterday that Dan joined Elliot for the weekly rundown of the choicest hacks for the last 1/52 of a year. but here we are. We had quite a bit of news to talk about, including the winners of the Component Abuse Challenge -- warning, some components were actually abused for this challenge. They're also a trillion pages deep over at the Internet Archive, a milestone that seems worth celebrating. As for projects, both of us kicked things off with "Right to repair"-adjacent topics, first with a washing machine that gave up its secrets with IR and then with a car that refused to let its owner fix the brakes. We heated things up with a microwave foundry capable of melting cast iron -- watch your toes! -- and looked at a tiny ESP32 dev board with ludicrously small components. We saw surveyors go to war, watched a Lego sorting machine go through its paces, and learned about radar by spinning up a sonar set from first principles. Finally, we wrapped things up with another Al Williams signature "Can't Miss Articles" section, with his deep dive into the fun hackers can have with the now-deprecated US penny, and his nostalgic look at pneumatic tube systems.

The Steelers have depth, next man up is a real thing with some substitutes appearing to out play some injured starters. Should Mason Rudolph, James Pierre and Malik Harrison keep the majority of the reps. If the playoffs started to the Steelers would host the Buffalo Bills, yeah the same Bills they host in week 12. It's an 7-game journey to AFC North supremacy, the NFL playoffs & hopefully Super Bowl LX (60) in Santa Clara, California. Time to stack wins, it sounds far away, but it's not. There's a big difference between knowing what is best of your city's transportation system, and knowing how to fight the often fierce political battles you need to win in order to make it real. Fortunately, one author has written a manual to help transit advocates across America do exactly that, from picking campaigns out of the tangle of interlocking transportation challenges that ensnare our cities, to winning over the skeptical — and everything in between. On this episode of The Brake, we're joined by Carter Lavin's to discuss his new book "If You Want to Win, You've Got To Fight: A Guide to Effective Transportation Advocacy," which host Kea Wilson called "the book the transportation reform movement has been waiting for."

The Rob Skinner Podcast: Releasing Your Spiritual Emergency Brake Keywords: spiritual growth, overcoming fear, faith, personal development, Christian life, release the emergency brake, live free, purpose, growth, no regrets Episode Summary In this inspiring episode, Rob Skinner unpacks the idea of spiritual growth through the vivid metaphor of an emergency brake. Just like a car can't move freely when the brake is engaged, many Christians struggle to move forward in faith because of hidden fears, doubts, or regrets. Rob challenges listeners to identify what's holding them back and to release those spiritual brakes through prayer, surrender, and renewed trust in God. This episode will help you live free, pursue your purpose, and experience the kind of faith that moves without hesitation or regret. Key Takeaways If you've ever felt held back spiritually, it's time to release the emergency brake in your life. A locked brake keeps even the most powerful engine from moving forward. When your spiritual brake is on, you can press the gas but make little progress. God calls you to throw off everything that hinders and run your race freely. Stop replaying the past — name it, pray about it, and let it go. A car wasn't designed to run with the brake on — and neither were you. God created you to move forward, unhindered, fully alive, and free in His purpose. Memorable Quotes "Whatever it is, name it. Pray about it." "The road ahead is wide open." "He created you to run free."
