Emer McLysaght, one half of the Oh My God What A Complete Aisling books and our fifth ever guest returns to talk to us about the Adrian Mole series. Emer was obsessed with all of the Adrian Mole books as a youngster, Alan read and loved the first one as a child but then got distracted by Terry Pratchett and never returned, and Andrea read The Secret Diary Of for the first time for this episode so we're really covering what we in the Juvenalia business call “The Experience Gamut” Emer is @EmerTheScreamer. She co-writes the hugely popular Aisling books with Sarah Breen, you've probably read them but if you haven't you should; especially if you loved Adrian Mole. Alan is @alan_maguire. Juvenalia is his main thing right now. Andrea is not on social media right now because she's stronger than us but you can find her on her podcasts My Favourite Album With Andrea Cleary and The Nialler9 Podcast. Thank you to Dee McDonnell for our artwork. We have a Patreon! You can get bonus episodes including our fortnightly show Started/Finished where we talk about the pop culture we started and finished in the previous two weeks. Writer Emer McLysaght joins Jeanne and Alan to watch A Heavenly Christmas (2016), the heartwarming story of a woman who dies and goes to heaven but gets sent back to Earth to make a little girl’s wish come true and falls in love along the way. A Heavenly Christmas was written by Gregg McBride, directed by Paul Shapiro and stars Kristin Davis, Eric McCormack, and Shirley MacLaine. Near the end, Alan says that Albert Brooks starred in a 70s movie called Heaven Can Wait. It’s actually a 1991 film called Defending Your Life. Alan apologises. Emer co-wrote Oh My God What A Complete Aisling and it’s so good, everybody loves it. One of the most recent Irish words to enter common parlance is Aisling – a sensible girl from outside Dublin with an aversion to notions. While the origin of other words based on names are lost in the mists of time, we can trace this one to a popular Facebook group, Oh My God What A Complete Aisling. The creators of this group, Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen, have written a book of the same name and were kind enough to pop into HeadStuff to chat to Darach and Éimear about it. They also discuss hotel breakfasts, Christmas Mass, the Irish roots of the name Aisling and her hometown, Ballygobbard… and the positives of social media. --- Contact the show at https://twitter.com/motherfocloir or email us at motherfocloir@headstuff.org.
Oh My God What A Complete Aisling co-author Emer McLysaght joined Alan Maguire and Ellen Tannam to talk about Jurassic Park – the movie and the book, palaeontology, transition year work experience, the importance of posters, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Lex, early 90s knock off merchandise, phone covers, entering competitions in women’s magazines, Gilmore Girls, and loads more. It’s a fun hour. The fantastic twitter account we were talking about near the end is @TheTimMurphy. Ok, see you next time! Bye!
