This week we're excited to present a special conversation from the 63rd New York Film Festival between filmmakers Joachim Trier and Noah Baumbach, moderated by Film at Lincoln Center programmer Maddie Whittle. This Talk is sponsored by Deadline. NYFF veterans Noah Baumbach and Joachim Trier returned to the festival this year with a pair of films that explore how artistry, authenticity, and artifice collide in the public and private lives of star actors and famed filmmakers. In Baumbach's charmingly reflexive Jay Kelly, an aging megastar—played, fittingly, by George Clooney—arrives at a crisis point in his career; haunted by the past and uninspired by the present, he embarks on a somewhat reckless screwball adventure with his entourage (featuring Adam Sandler and Laura Dern) in tow. Meanwhile, Trier's Sentimental Value finds an acclaimed stage actress (Renate Reinsve) and her estranged movie-director father (Stellan Skarsgård) clashing, connecting, and introspecting over a film project that draws from their complicated lives. Dramatizing the dimensions of modern-day, larger-than-life celebrity with deft humor, both films hone in on the relationships—familial, professional, transactional—that undergird the creative process and industrial artmaking. Baumbach and Trier joined NYFF63 for a lively, probing discussion of their approaches to writing grounded, lived-in characters, and the collaborations that have shaped their own illustrious bodies of work. The 63rd New York Film Festival is presented in partnership with Rolex.
Noah Baumbach's latest Netflix venture - Jay Kelly - hits limited release in cinemas in just a few weeks. I had the pleasure of seeing it at the BFI London Film Festival a few weeks back and have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to talk about it in a full-length review. The reactions to this movie have been pretty mixed since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Why anyone at Netflix thought a European premiere made sense for a movie about an aging Hollywood movie star is beyond me… but here we are. Since that premiere, the reviews for this movie have grown to be much more kind. I've been really long forward to Jay Kelly because Noah Baumbach's films tend to work for me and the premise, as well as as the opportunity for Adam Sandler to be on a serious movie again, had me very excited. So, am I one of the people really high on Jay Kelly, or was the initial mixed reception warranted? Find out in this review! Jay Kelly hits Netflix on December 5th.Jay Kelly:Directed by: Noah BaumbachWritten by: Noah Baumbach, Emily MortimerProduced by: Noah Baumbach, David Heyman, Amy PascalExecutive Producer: Donald SabourinMusic by: Nicholas BritellDirector of Photography: Linus SandgrenEdited by: Valerio Bonelli, Rachel DuranceCasting by: Douglas Aibel, Nina GoldProduction Design by: Mark TildesleyCast: George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Grace Edwards, Stacy KeachSynopsis: Famous movie actor Jay Kelly embarks on a journey of self discovery confronting both his past and present, accompanied by his devoted manager Ron.

Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's October, so that means it's time for our “Shocktober” series, where we cover movies that go bump in the night! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest Tony Sedani discuss Tom Savini's overlooked 1990 remake of the George Romero classic, Night of the Living Dead!A quick pace! Mild undead nudity! Shocking neck violence! A door you can punch through! A female lead who transitions from damsel in distress to legitimate action hero! Fantastic makeup effects and memorable zombie designs, including one that's twisted up like a pretzel! A great "one awful night in a single location" movie! No real explanation for the horrors that ensue! Social commentary on division and class war! Good ol' boys toying with zombies! Feelings of hopelessness! An impossible Candyman reference! A cast that includes the legendary Tony Todd, Laura Dern's stunt double from Jurassic Park, Patricia Tallman, the writer of The Gingerdead Man, William Butler, an unrecognizable Bill Moseley, and Tom Towles as the worst dude ever! While it may live in the shadow of the 1968 original, it's one of the better remakes and some people's preferred version of Night of the Living Dead! In addition, Alex talks about his favorite movies from Fantastic Fest 2025, including the Iko Uwais-produced martial arts extravaganza Ikatan Darah, Johannes Roberts' monkey-gone-mad creature feature Primate, Justin Long's unique take on corrupt cops in Los Angeles, Night Patrol, Steve Kostanki's Deathstalker, V/H/S/Halloween, the shark thriller Beast of War, and Curry Barker's oddly funny cautionary horror tale, Obsession! Finally, Tony shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Long Walk, One Battle After Another, Good Boy, and The Smashing Machine, while Alex does the same for the Shudder original Night of the Reaper, and the realization of a plumber's worst nightmare, Scared Shitless! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Bradley Cooper, Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, and Christine Ebersole join NYFF selection committee member Florence Almozini to discuss this year's Closing Night selection, Is This Thing On? Will Arnett and Laura Dern play a couple whose separation leads to unpredictable midlife self-reckonings, most dramatically in Alex's wild career pivot to become a confessional stand-up comic. Director Bradley Cooper's beautifully lived-in third feature is both lacerating and sweet-souled, funny and tender. The 63rd New York Film Festival is presented in partnership with Rolex.

Vials of blood…that's probably your main association with Billy Bob Thorton and Angelina Jolie, right? In the spirit of spooky season, Mel tells the tale of this 2000s Gothic couple. He was a 45-year-old, late bloomer “hillbilly” from Arkansas on his fifth marriage. She was a beautiful, brooding 25-year-old Hollywood “nepo baby” on her second. All the stars aligned for these two dark and twisty social outcasts to find each other and French kiss on red carpets. While their relationship might have evolved to be a mere footnote in the bigger Brangelina saga, this episode proves that the past IS prologue. Join us as we look back at their controversial affair featuring a scorned Laura Dern, tattoos, matching burial plots, and a flame that burned too bright for daylight. ***** This is a teaser for a bonus episode— the full episode is 2 hours 15 minutes long! Paul Thomas Anderson month continues with his follow-up to last week's film. After the critical acclaim There Will Be Blood received, anticipation for PTA's next film was high. In 2012, he gave us The Master. The film was visually accomplished, being the first fiction film shot on 65mm since 1996, and thematically dense, bringing a renewed sense of control to PTA's style. Received warmly by critics and at film festivals, the film has endured despite its box office failure. Featuring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, and the final PTA-Phillip Seymour Hoffman collaboration, The Master is a thorny, provocative drama. Scott has been looking forward to a rewatch, but Christian didn't like it on his original viewing. Joined by old friend of the show Nick Vyner, we break down The Master and consider its place in PTA's filmography. Plus, our thoughts on TIFF's People's Choice Award, Demon Slayer, The Long Walk, and the passing of Robert Redford. What's your favorite PTA film? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com

Our Apologies To Laura Dern.
Zo is on his way to an incredible, history making event. Zo is going to an island where he and a select few can witness the impossible. He's going to witness something that hasn't been heard of for at least 65 million years. He is going to see dinosaurs once again walk the face of the earth. Graceful, majestic and dangerous creatures will roar, swim and fly as they once did in our imagination! There have been concerns about the safety of the park; after all, some of these creatures are the most vicious predators that's ever lived. Surely they've taken every precaution to make sure that the prehistoric animals at this Jurassic Park don't eat the visitors, haven't they? . . . Julian, Madeline, and Emilio begin a new episode cycle focusing on Audience Interrogation in film with a "View-nanimous" discussion on David Lynch's 1986 masterpiece "Blue Velvet," and are joined by returning guest, multi-talented musician and fellow Lynch fan Lily Desmond for the conversation. Marking their long-awaited first episode on a Lynch film, the group discuss their formative past experiences with "Blue Velvet" and its undeniable staying power, on account of its simultaneous adherence to and divergence from narrative conventions. As the film famously polarized critics upon release, the group also discuss the surprising watchability of its most unsettling scenes, along with distinctly "American" sensibilities tapped into by Lynch and other offbeat filmmakers of his generation, and the desires which underly the dually transparent and enigmatic actions of the film's main characters, Jeffrey, Dorothy, Frank, and Sandy. Dhruv and Cris follow Laura Dern's Sandy (from "Blue Velvet") out of her cheerfully dreamy Lumberton suburbia into the -- at first, hellishly garish, then, coldly desolate wilderness -- of the American West, trying to make sense of how Sandy (now called Lula) tries to keep her passionate romance with Sailor (played by Nicolas Cage) alive as the reality around her threatens to burn down (another one of her) dreams. Listen to the full episode to hear Dhruv only being able to make sense of the part where the dream (and the film's combustible melodrama) is extinguished; Cris, on the other hand, argues that the film's most memorable bits are its most unabashedly fantastical and melodramatic.Major spoilers, of course, for "Wild At Heart."TIME CODESIntroduction : [00:00 - 02:41]"Twin Peaks" Announcement: [02:41 - 03:32]Wild At Cannes (Contexualizing the Film): [03:32 - 16:50]"Wild At Heart": [16:50 - 01:10:48]Outro: [01:10:48 - 01:18:30]TEXT REFERENCED REPEATEDLY"Room to Dream" (David Lynch & Kristine McKenna).Do hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.You can follow us on Instagram at:CRIS: https://www.instagram.com/prdscris/.DHRUV: https://www.instagram.com/terminalcinema/.You can also follow us on Letterboxd at -CRIS: https://letterboxd.com/crislim/.DHRUV: https://letterboxd.com/aterminalcinema/.
Romance is having a huge moment and let's be honest, sometimes we all need a dose of a little happy ending. In this spicy bonus episode of Mamamia Out Loud, Jessie, Holly and Em V are diving deep into why we're all completely obsessed with love stories right now. From seriously sexy fairies, Mr Rochester's problematic Victorian charm to complicated love stories set on the backdrop of Dublin (so romantic) — we're covering it all and getting way too invested in fictional relationships. Plus, we'll play you a taste of Em's spicy obsession she's been listening to on her commute that has her practically levitating into work.

These experiences have profoundly shaped how she approaches storytelling, especially now that she's writing and directing projects starring the likes of Laura Dern and Kaitlyn Dever. In this episode, Courtney shares what writers should (and shouldn't) include in their scripts when it comes to wardrobe, how costume can deepen character, and how different departments will interpret your work if it gets greenlit for production. We are kicking off Cage-A-Palooza 2025 with a movie that is not only Nicolas Cage, but also David Lynch. That's right, those two worked together once, and the result was 1990's Wild at Heart. Cage plays Sailor, fresh out of jail and on a cross country road trip with his girlfriend Lula (played by Laura Dern). It has Lynch surrealism, and Cage craziness. But are these two great tastes that taste great together? Or more like oil and water? Let's find out...Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. Jurassic Park (1993) is one of the greatest films of all time. Based on a novel by Michael Crichton and directed Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park brought dinosaurs to life in this sci-fi action masterpiece. It stars Sam Neill as Alan Grant and Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler, both paleontologists, Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm, a mathematician and chaos theorist, Richard Attenborough as John Hammond, CEO and founder of Jurassic Park, Joseph Mazzello as Tim Murphy, Hammond's grandson, Ariana Richards as Hammond's granddaughter, Samuel L. Jackson as Ray Arnold, Jurassic Park chief engineer and Wayne Knight as Dennis Nedry, Jurassic Park computer programmer. The first guests to the groundbreaking theme park encounter some technical difficulties when a disgruntled employee takes Jurassic Park offline. Jurassic Park is Jay's favourite film of all time and unsurprisingly it scored very highly for recommendabilty only dropping a few points on engagement to score 4.75 overall. "Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the Earth." It's a double feature summer at Movies That Made Us Gay, and we watched the original "Jurassic Park" and the latest entry "Jurassic World: Rebirth" with our friend and the newest member of the MTMUG Five Timers Club, Hiko Mitsuzuka. His monogrammed smoking jacket is on back order. Listen, what else can be added to the conversation about the original Jurassic Park? Yes, Laura Dern was a sexual awakening for many a young gay girl (and boy), yes the Dilophosaurus is a lesbian icon (much like the aforementioned Laura Dern), and yes Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck) in kahki short-shorts made us feel some type of way with those bulging thighs. But we're here to add to the conversation as well as talk about the latest - and possibly queer-est (most queer?) entry into the Jurassic canon. While there may be subtext indicating a possible future love story between Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and Zora Bennet (Scarlett Johansson), we would like to point out that Jonathan and SacrJo could still turn out to be gay besties in the inevitable sequel. Did Scarlett let out a sigh of relief when she found out her male lead in this film is an out gay male actor? Possibly. Should the filmmakers have just given in and let Jonathan play the role using his normal accent? Listen, Sam Neill's hybrid Kiwi-American accent worked just fine in the original. "Slutty little glasses" and questionable accents aside, Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson are a welcome addition to the Jurassic family. Is that a read on previous cast members? We'll let you decide. "Clever girl." A CLASSIC ROCKER FINDS OUT HE HAS A LOVE CHILD FROM THE 80's, some insane Movies announced and A wild list of celebrities and how they caught their significant others cheating… it's like celebs are just like us guys!CRAP ON FRIDAY Rick Moranis has been gone way too long. Even those new "Ghostbusters" movies didn't lure him back to Hollywood. But I am quite excited to announce that he WILL return to once again play Dark Helmet in "Spaceballs 2"!!! Bill Pullman will return as the hero Lone Starr, too. And Mel Brooks will be back as Yogurt . . . and, presumably . . . President Skroob. (He played both characters in the original.) Josh Gad co-wrote the script, and he's expected to be in it, too. Pullman's son Lewis Pullman has also been cast, along with Keke Palmer . . . but there's no word who they're playing. There's also no word on any other returning cast members. Obviously, John Candy, Joan Rivers, and Dick Van Patten won't be back, since they're no longer with us. Mel released the first teaser yesterday. There's no footage, since filming hasn't begun yet. It starts with a text crawl that makes fun of all the "Star Wars" prequels, sequels, sequels to the prequels, prequels to the sequels, and TV spin-offs. Then it lists all the "Dune", "Jurassic Park", "Avatar", and Marvel movies, plus DC's TWO attempts to start a cinematic universe . . . and just about every other overdone franchise you can name. Then, after a quick appearance from Mel, we get a shot of Rick Moranis' cracked helmet, and the tagline: "The Schwartz Awakens in 2027." Which sounds like a possible title but it's spaceballs and mel brooks so it could be anything. Here is Mel making his announcement. Jerry Seinfeld Proposes ‘Live-Action Sequel' to 'Bee Movie'Jerry Seinfeld has people buzzin' with this idea! The comedic genius posted about the possibility of a “live-action sequel” to his 2007 animated hit Bee Movie.“Bee Movie, which came out nearly 20 years ago, is #4 on Netflix,” he wrote on Instagram showing a hand holding a tennis ball with a honey bee on it. The next slide was the movie's poster, an image of Seinfeld's character Barry B. Benson similarly straddling a tennis ball.“Today, my friend Spike Feresten, one of the writers on the film, was playing tennis and this happened."He continued, “Clearly a sign. Time for a live-action sequel..?" DreamWorks' Bee Movie, which Seinfeld produced, co-wrote, and starred in along with Renée Zellweger, has become a cult favorite since its release.Bee Movie also featured the voices of Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Oprah Winfrey, and several celebrities appearing as animated versions of themselves, including Larry King, Ray Liotta, and Sting.Saint Louis' own Nelly and Ashanti are putting their lives on TV for all to see. They announced an upcoming reality show called Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.A show synopsis says Nelly and Ashanti "rekindle their love, navigate the ups and downs of being newlyweds and new parents, and juggle their careers."The eight-episode series will air on Peacock starting June 26th.A DNA Test Connects Billy Idol To A Son He Didn't Know He HadDetails on the lovechild Billy Idol didn't know he had until a few years ago have surfaced.Idol's daughter, Bonnie, shared in the new doc, 'Billy Idol Should Be Dead', "My husband just surprised me with a DNA test as a Christmas present [a few years ago]. Then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I'm like, who is this? This Brant. His info reads, 'New York, 1985, looking for my biological dad.' I was like, ‘What?'"Brant, Idol's lovechild, grew up believing his dad was someone else until a different DNA questioned his mother's claims about his father. After confronting his mom, she told Brant, "Well, it's pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol."Fans have done the math and calculate that Brant was conceived during Idol's wildly successful 1984 'Rebel Yell' tour.Idol has whole-heartedly accepted Brant as family, saying, "I really enjoyed being a dad. I always wanted a boy and a girl, and I finagled my way into a boy and a girl. I actually had a son that I didn't realize, who I fathered on the Rebel Yell tour without knowing it. So I somehow finagled this as well."Brant was at Idol's Walk of Fame ceremony back in 2023.Prime Video Will Soon Show Double The AdsAmazon Prime Video is about to double the number of commercials shown per hour on its ad-supported membership level. An Adweek report got the news from an Amazon spokesperson about the amount of commercials going to "four to six minutes per hour" from the two to three minutes that Prime users are used to. In 2024, subscribers who had ad-free access were forced to pay an extra $3 a month to maintain the status. Jay-Z Loses $1 Million NBA Finals Bet Jay-Z is out $1 million after losing a bet on the NBA Finals. Jay placed a bet prior to the series, banking on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the championship in five games. After Wednesday night's Thunder loss to the Indiana Pacers, OKC can't win the series unless they do it in six or seven games. Jay-Z would have won $3.5 million if the bet had cashed in. With a net worth of $2.5 billion, we're sure Jay-Z will be alright. Ok you guys remember Spinal Tap? The Album cover debate with the label and why it became an all black cover or as Nigel would say NONE MORE BLACK? It was because the original had a woman on all fours with a dog leash on and it was deemed sexist…. To which Nigel replies “Whats wrong with being sexy? Well get this, Sabrina Carpenter announced her new album yesterday, and it's causing a lot of controversy. It's called "Man's Best Friend", and the cover has Sabrina on all fours, in front of a man who's pulling a handful of her hair. A women's advocacy group in Scotland called it "regressive", saying it reduces women to, quote, "pets, props, and possessions," and promotes "an element of violence and control." Sabrina's fans are defending it as SATIRE, and a commentary on how badly women are treated. And some are pointing out that the first single, "Manchild", actually makes FUN of men. HERE IS A CLIP OF THATMeanwhile, in the new "Rolling Stone" cover story, Sabrina talks about being criticized for the sexual imagery in her stage show. She says, quote "It's always so funny to me when people complain. They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it." She adds, quote, "I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now." Pope Leo isn't even the most famous guy in his family. The "New York Times" researched his family tree, and found out that he's related to a bunch of celebrities. The link is an ancestor from about six generations back. He name was Louis Boucher de Grandpre, and he was born in Quebec. And because of him, Leo is distant cousins with Justin Bieber, Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Jack Kerouac, and Madonna. It's interesting that Leo would be related to Madonna, given that the Catholic Church has condemned her several times . . . most famously when she released her "Like a Prayer" video in 1989. A few years ago, Madonna reached out to Pope Francis, asking to meet with him to discuss "important matters." She told him, quote, "I've been ex-communicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair." If you've ever wondered how the creators of "Friends" came up with the character of Joey Tribbiani . . . we might just have the answer this morning. Joey Lawrence claims Matt LeBlanc's character was based on HIS character Joey Russo from "Blossom". Lawrence says, quote, "Joey Russo was so successful that when they were creating 'Friends', they wanted a 25-year-old version of that." Supposedly, Matt's character wasn't even originally called Joey, but they changed it because the "Blossom" character was so successful. Joey even claims that Matt was sent to tapings of "Blossom" where he would, quote, "sit up in the audience with a yellow notepad and take notes on how I portrayed Joey Russo." He says they wanted Matt to bring the "innocence" of Joey Russo to Joey Tribbiani, so the character could, quote, "get away with his womanizing." I guess the Grammys were sick of hearing about whether Beyoncé deserved to win Best Country Album for "Cowboy Carter". So, they just announced a major change. For next year's Grammys, the award formally known as Best Country Album will now be called Best Contemporary Country Album . . . and they will also be adding a new category: Best Traditional Country Album. There's a lot to unpack here. And one year after Beyoncé wins makes the timing of this all the more clickbait-y. According to the Grammy website, "traditional country music", quote, "adheres to the more traditional sound structures of the country genre, including rhythm and singing style, lyrical content, as well as traditional country instrumentation such as acoustic guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, piano, and live drums." Where "contemporary country music", quote, "remains reminiscent and relevant to the legacy of country music's culture, while also engaging in more contemporary music forms." Someone tweeted, "Morgan Wallen and Post Malone better not be in the traditional country category at the Grammys, because in what world are they traditional country?" Wait, hold up. When Morgan collaborated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, that wasn't traditional country??New in Theaters: "How to Train Your Dragon", "Materialists", and "The Life of Chuck" There's nothing like a good breakup story. Here are seven times a celebrity found out their partner was cheating in an unconventional way: 1. Demi Moore learned that Ashton Kutcher was having an affair in 2011, from a Google Alert. When she called him on it, he admitted it right away. Her response was, quote, "Are you [effing] kidding me?" 2. Britney Spears started dating lawyer David Lucado in 2012. But in 2014, her father found out there was paparazzi footage of David kissing another woman. He bought it to prevent it from being released, and Britney broke it off. 3. Kourtney Kardashian dumped Scott Disick in 2008, after finding texts on his phone from a contact called, quote, "my wife." They did the on-and-off thing until 2015, when photos emerged of Scott with another woman in France. 4. Elizabeth Hurley found out Hugh Grant was cheating on her in 1995, when he got arrested for GETTING IT ON with Sunset Boulevard prostitute Divine Brown in his car. They didn't break up until 2000, and they're still friends. 5. Laura Dern found out Billy Bob Thornton was being unfaithful when the news broke that he had ELOPED with Angelina Jolie in 2000. She was away making a movie, and she never saw it coming. 6. Eva Longoria's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker ended in 2010, after she found inappropriate texts with another woman on his phone. 7. This one's ancient history, but it was a HUGE tabloid story back in the day: In 1958, actress Debbie Reynolds was missing her husband, Eddie Fisher, because he was supposedly away on tour. So she decided to give her friend Elizabeth Taylor a call . . . and who answered Liz's phone? Eddie FREAKIN' Fisher. (!!!) Eddie left Debbie and married Liz, but that only lasted five years.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
