Well straight up I am fucking honoured ! For those of you who don't know I have encountered some life changes this year. Most of my stuff is packed, the old site is gone and the archived files are? But I found a decent selection of Christmas shows both from the Paddy Rock and Grinning Beggar Days (VERY OLD), Hope you enjoy them cheers to better days in 2024. Look for a fund drive coming soon! Much Love and Respect. Merry Christmas ~ Phil

Are you already in your post-holidays slump? Well, fear not, because it's time to travel back in time to when it was still Christmas so we can bring you one last Christmas magic-filled time travel romp. Yes, that's right, carol-ers and all. Because who doesn't love a good carol? Honestly, your hosts. Nor do we really like all the preachy "back in the good ol' days" themes of this movie, but hey, what would the holidays be without some inter-generational passive aggressive cracks about tradition and the youths? Speaking of the youths, follow us on Twitter @aftertimepod or on Instagram @paigeilyssa821 and @helaylay234.

In this year's Christmas BMJ 2016 podcasts, we've been discussing morality, compassion, truth. In this final one, it's time for war. After the second world war, there was an attempt to bring a moral sense to conflict - and Julian Sheather, specialist adviser on ethics and human rights to the BMA, and author of the christmas editorial “medicine under fire” is worried about the retrenchment of those ideals. http://www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6464 Peter Wever is a doctor in The Netherlands, and has been uncovering the story of the number 10 stationary hospital, in st-omer in northern france - a British army hospital that was targeted and destroyed during the first world war. http://www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6509

In response to the turmoil of 2016, with political campaigns being run on, and won on, misinformation - many commentators are disparing that we've become a post-truth society. And what is truth anyway? Tracy Brown, director of Sense about Science, the charity set up to champion evidence in everyday life, is less pessimistic about the public's appetite for evidence. http://www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6467 Anders Huitfeldt, a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine, and has been trying to puzzle out “Is caviar a risk factor for being a millionaire?” http://www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6536

Underneath all of our civilisation and science, we're still primates - and the connection between patient and doctor can be reinforced by simply taking a hand. Robin Youngson, cofounder of hearts in healthcare, and Mitzi Blennerhassett, who has written extensively on patient engagement, have co-authored an editorial calling for the humanisation of medicine, and we talk to them about the power of touch. Read the editorial: www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6262 Andrew Steptoe is the British Heart Foundation professor of psychology, at University College London. A special service of healing and hope.
Before Jesus was born, an angel came separately to both Mary and Joseph telling them what His name should be - because He was named Jesus, not just so that we'd know what to call Him, but because His name (and many other names by which He's known) tells us about who He is, and what He came to do.This week we look at the importance of Jesus' name, and how what we call Him shapes our own lives. Have a listen!
Happy Totally Normal Day In December, everybody! It's our HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGOON, and instead of revisiting the animated A Charlie Brown Christmas like we originally intended, we saw a stage adaptation of the same, at the Taproot Theater in Seattle. In our first segment Nicole Dieker joins us for a roundtable about the merits of adapting a Peanuts animated special to live theater, and what a difference it makes to have real actors instead of children imitating Bill Melendez one word at a time. In our second segment we interview Andy Cownden, BC's go-to Charlie Brown, about what it's like to assume the role of Charlie Brown, and to be faithful to the original text while also finding room to make the role your own. Topics of discussion include: The unexpected treat of having real stage actors read Schulz; Charlie Brown maybe meant to say "material" when he said "commercial"; an extra-canon epilogue! (feat. the Christmas queen); there's no such thing as a non-creepy nativity; A Charlie Brown Xmas as a quiet, melancholy Rocky Horror; A Charlie Brown Xmas as a boggart; performative feelings about Christmas; dancing about architecture; the existential table work that goes into a Charlie Brown Christmas production; at least three kinds of Snoopy puppet; Charlie Brown's emotional arc is not unlike the stripe on his shirt. The animated A Charlie Brown Christmas is available on streaming, DVD, network television... You could holler "Isn't there anyone who has a copy of A Charlie Brown Christmas?!" out a car window and someone would be like "YES." To find a production of the A Charlie Brown Christmas stage adaptation that we discuss in this episode, Google "[your city name] Eric Schaeffer Charlie Brown". Odds are there's a production very near you! Our first guest Nicole Dieker is a freelance writer and a senior editor at The Billfold. She can be found at @hellothefuture or NicoleDieker.com. She is our first return guest, and first joined us to discuss It Was A Short Summer, CB. Our second guest Andy Cownden is a talented actor and writer, who is currently playing Charlie Brown in A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Carousel Theater in Granville Island. Questions? Comments? Tweet them to @PeanutsPodcast. Josh and Molly wrote a holiday musical a couple years ago, inspired in no small part by the Peanuts holiday specials. It's available to stream or purchase on Bandcamp. Thank you for listening to & tweeting at this pair of blockheads! We really appreciate it. Audio blandishment by Ken Plume.
