Episode 251: That time I had to follow Reverend Bubba! The more a gig pays, the more it can go sideways. In this episode, Dan and Josh are joined by festival comic Zach Funk (Pittsburgh Comedy Festival, Albuquerque Funny Fiesta), who tells the guys about a tight thirty he did at a high school girl's volleyball fundraiser in a multi-purpose gym cafeteria. This is a fantastic episode for comics who do lots of gigs in alt rooms or places outside of comedy clubs (which a lot of times pay the best!). Zack and Dan talk about the difference between comedy and other performance art forms - Zach makes a useful comparison - to have a good show, you have to keep it moving, just like a shark must keep swimming to survive. Learn about: the strategic placement of jokes at different points in your set, dealing with random facts thrown at you from the audience, and how to set your gig up for success when organizers or hosts feel the need to insert intermissions, raffles, or other interruptions. Please rate and review Zack Funk Zach Funk wants you to know it is ok to be human. He brings to the stage jokes and stories about topics like mental health, navigating life, and being an overactive thinker in an under-thinking world. Combining equal parts heart and nerdiness Funk hopes that after seeing him perform you've not only laughed but also feel a little less alone in the universe. His first album, “Brains Are Weird,” was recorded and released in 2019. Loose Cannon Comedy’s Mike DiGuglielmo & Adam Prevade have known each other since undergrad at Pitt-Johnstown when Mike was Adam’s RA. I loved getting to know these two and their journey to stand-up from campus tv. Beyond producing their own stand-up shows at Obey House, Ace Hotel, and Karl’s House of Curiosities, they’ve been able to launch their own podcast, Sequilites where they come up on the spot with sequals and remakes to some of your favorite movies. We talk about Adam’s win last year in the Pittsburgh Comedy Festival stand up contest and Mike’s undying love for their Obey House Classic series where they provide color commentary for Nintendo Wii Bowling and Rock, Paper Scissors.Get to know 2/5 of the Loose Cannon Comedy team with me and check out some of their upcoming shows Baumshells! While in town for the Pittsburgh Comedy Festival and a slew of other shows like Collegiates and Comedians and Do Not Disturb, I snagged a fun interview with Tennessee's Hunter Roberts. We get into the production of his show, Wealth of Knowledgeman, becoming a professional wrestler, navigating his first sober comedy tour, and mastering when to breath during bits. 1-800-637-HOPE (4673) Garrett Titlebaum: It's Nice To See He's Working RSS
While coming back to her Pennsylvania roots for the Burning Bridges Festival, I snagged an interview with comedian JC Coccoli. JC's had a ton of success as a stand-up, appearing on Last Comic Standing Season 8 as well as producing great comedy sketches and shows. FYI, be prepared, JC shares the most incredible Mandy Moore story you’ll ever hear. We banter a good portion about the LA Comedy scene and how she left Pittsburgh for a go in La La Land. I enjoyed getting to know her and I think you will too! Fun fact, I learned after the mics were off, she’s going to be helping produce this year’s Pittsburgh Comedy Festival as well!

Woody has to solo the hosting job losing Tessa to previous engagement. So to pick up the slack, he got the genius of Ben Amiri (THE WRITERS' ROOM) and John Feightner of (HUSTLEBOT, WARP ZONE) to join him in the Unplanned Comedy Sky Lounge. Also here is a littler fun fact, all three of the aforementioned improv teams are going to the Pittsburgh Comedy Festival 2015. UNPLANNED COMEDY, once again is a proud sponsor of this years festival. THIS EPISODE IN A NUTSHELL - Lead singers make ex's, drummers make widows - John Feightner never saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Ben Amiri is a big fan of Foxy Shazam - The simple truth is that Mad Max was neither angry or crazy.
Joe shares stories from the Bill Burr Tour, Pittsburgh Comedy Festival and the Final Dead Shows in Chicago. Road Stories are the best!!
