This week on Totally 80s and 90s Recall, Dave, Rob, and Kurt are joined by special guests Brad and Sean to dive into the wild world of 1980s comedy movies with a March Madness–style 16-team bracket. From slapstick to satire, the guys break down some of the funniest and most quotable films of the decade, pitting classics head-to-head until only two comedies reigns supreme. Each matchup sparks laughs, heated debate, and plenty of nostalgia as the crew tries to decide which flick really captured the comedic spirit of the 80s. The bracket is stacked with heavy-hitters like National Lampoon's Vacation, Stripes, and Coming to America, each bringing its own brand of outrageous humor and iconic performances. But the competition doesn't stop there—parody powerhouses like Spaceballs square off against teen comedy staples such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The panel wrestles with tough questions: does a cult classic deserve to topple a box office giant? Should quotability matter more than critical acclaim? And just how much does nostalgia play into picking a true champion? With Brad and Sean stirring the pot and adding their own favorites into the mix, the bracket becomes a hilarious walk down memory lane. Whether it's Chevy Chase bumbling his way through family road trips, Eddie Murphy redefining comedy stardom, or Matthew Broderick convincing us to skip school in style, this episode is packed with laughter, debate, and plenty of “you had to be there” 80s moments. It's the ultimate comedy showdown, and only two films can survive the bracket madness! It's a conversation that every nerd at heart will appreciate. With a roll of the dice, the show moves into the “Daddy, Tell Me A Story” segment, where Devocite shares a touching story about his daughter's rescue dog—while cleverly avoiding its actual name. This sparks a heartfelt discussion on the art of naming pets, and the many creative (and funny) ways families come up with names for their furry friends.Next up is the “How Do I…?” segment, where the focus turns to creating family traditions that last a lifetime. From yearly vacations to meaningful holiday rituals, the hosts share practical wisdom on building traditions that kids will cherish forever. The moral of the story? Use traditions to craft unforgettable family memories. The dice then guide us to the “What Are You Nerding Out About?” segment. Joe shares highlights from his family vacation to Wilderness at the Smokies, complete with waterparks and an unforgettable dinner show called Pirate's Voyage. Devocite looks ahead with excitement as he prepares for his first Dragon Con, planning a nostalgic road trip to see old friends and fun destinations along the way. It's the perfect example of how you can Find your FAMdom—blending family adventures with nerdy passions. The show then dives into the “Parliament of Papas” segment, where the topic shifts to car buying. A scenario about a wife pushing for a car nearly three times the husband's budget leads to practical advice for listeners. From understanding the importance of asking for the “out the door” price to being cautious about hidden dealership tactics, the discussion is equal parts useful and entertaining. Finally, the episode wraps with some hilarious bad dad jokes about cars and car salesmen—the perfect way to end on a laugh.Whether you're here for the fandom theories, the family wisdom, or just the dad jokes, this episode has something for everyone.Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom

Three O'Clock High is a 1987 teen comedy directed by Phil Joanou, starring:Casey Siemaszko as JerryAnne Ryan as FrannyRichard Tyson as Buddy RevellWhit Bissell Award winners Stacey Glick as Brei (Jerry's sister), and co-winners Scott Tiler & Guy Massey as Bruce and Scott, amateur documentary filmmakers.Written by Richard Christian Matheson and Thomas Szollosi.Released in 1987, a critical moment for teen comedies. Just two years prior, we got Weird Science (twice!), Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This one didn't quite land the same way. It underperformed at the box office and didn't win over critics for the most part. So… what happened? We don't really know. But we're talking about why we liked it!Today, we're talking about this overlooked gem of the genre. Loosely riffing on the 1952 western High Noon, Three O'Clock High gives us a surreal, anxiety-laced day in the life of Jerry Mitchell. He's just a regular student who accidentally crosses paths with Buddy Revell—a hulking new kid with a violent reputation. The showdown is set: 3 o'clock, after school, in the parking lot. No escape.Unlike its teen comedy peers, this one leans darker. It's not Bad Boys, but there's definitely more blood and missing teeth than the movies above.Instead of cliques and awkward prom moments, we get likable characters squaring off against a clear villain. It's a refreshing twist—less detention hall, more clumsy sheriff-vs-bandit showdown. Also we get a killer soundtrack by Tangerine Dream!----Follow Matt:Matt has over 100+ on LetterboxdYou can reach out on Bluesky:@MovieMattSirois Terrible movies often find him, even under under the alias Marcus at Movie Asylum of the Weird, Bad and Wonderful.Follow who we follow: Once Upon a Geek and  The Fade Out Podcast
