Let's talk about Summer House! Amanda and West “defended' their actions in part 1 of the reunion, and no one is impressed. Lil Wayne is engaged! A local road rage incident ended in a shooting. A bizarre real estate investment in San Francisco. Looking for a way to connect with nature? Cheek out The Friends of Sausal Creek! A Pickleball player finally lost their cool. Summer is coming! It's time to figure out what to do with those kids. Don't forget about Bob's Movie Club. Tomorrow we are discussing ‘Ferris Bueller's Day Off.'
Hour 1: Mason opens up about how she went viral on social media. Spoiler alert: it was oversharing. People are worried about Justin Beiber… again. Looking down is bad for your neck. We don't have any suggestions on how to help, but there it is. Being single has its perks. First off, no one will eat your burrito, and you can nap anytime you want! Hour 3: Let's talk about Summer House! Amanda and West “defended' their actions in part 1 of the reunion, and no one is impressed. Lil Wayne is engaged! A local road rage incident ended in a shooting. In this episode of our 2026 series about iconic movies from the 1980s we are taking a close look at the 1986 Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about the film's sprawling legacy and seemingly ironclad fan appeal, how many critics of the time saw it as a feelgood hangout and how it added to John Hughes's catalogue of coming-of-age filmmaking. We also tear down the film's edifice and dismantle its wish fulfilment fantasy to find much more troubling interpretations, ask why Ferris remains perfect throughout the movie and how his behaviour on multiple occasions is a massive personality red flag. Hey Streetwalkers. This is a throwback episode with actor John Kapelos, the janitor from The Breakfast Club! John first appeared on the show on 6.24.24It was such a compelling & fun episode, l decided it needed to be re-visited!Enjoy this throwback episode, tell a friend, and thanks for listening!John KapelosTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know John Kapelos. You may know John as 'Carl, The Janitor' from the 1984 cult classic film: The Breakfast Club; but he is so much more than that! In this episode, we chat about him spending nearly a decade with Second City, his experiences on some of the greatest John Hughes films, and even his time as 'The Sniffing Accountant' on Seinfeld. We discuss how the show must go on, even after his father unexpectedly passed. John reveals the moment he found out that Emelio Estevez was the son of Martin Sheen, stories from the set of The Breakfast Club, and his scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off that got cut. As if all of this improv comedy and hall of fame acting isn't enough, John Kapelos also put out an album! It is called "John Kapelos: Too Hip For the Room"; and he lets me play a track from it. I think you're gonna dig it!John is a consummate professional, and he gets honest and vulnerable with me in this interview. I appreciate him for letting go, and not holding back. If you have a chance to see John in a play, or singing, or in television and film; I highly suggest you check him out. In everything he does, he BRINGS IT!
In a world where lawyers are drowning in billable hours and generic marketing, this episode breaks down how to build an authentic brand, escape time traps through delegation, and use content strategically instead of reactively. Discover how small shifts in mindset and marketing execution can unlock both growth and a better life outside the office. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Nick Augustine discuss: The Ferris Bueller mindset and lawyer work-life balance Authentic branding vs. “monkey see, monkey do” legal marketing Choosing the right content format based on personality and strengths Consistency, LinkedIn, and the rise (and risk) of AI-generated content Outsourcing, ego, and overcoming limiting niches in law firm growth Key Takeaways: Many lawyers run so fast on the billable-hour treadmill that they never stop to question whether their practice is actually supporting the life they want, rather than consuming it. Copying what “successful” peers appear to be doing is a trap; real differentiation comes from leaning into what genuinely makes you unique instead of being a polished imitator. The most effective marketing channel is the one you'll willingly stick with—whether that's writing, podcasting, answering Q&A, or being the “behind-the-curtain” expert with a bit of mystique. Consistent, thoughtful content can cut through the noise on platforms like LinkedIn, especially when it's clearly human and not just generic AI output churned out to check a box. Over-niching and letting ego dictate who you serve and how can cap your growth; expanding your perspective beyond one industry, geography, or format can unlock far more opportunity. "Outsourcing... it helps people begin to understand that they have put themselves in a limiting box where they're limited financially by time versus dollars with hourly billers." — Nick Augustine Check out my new show, Be That Lawyer Coaches Corner, and get the strategies I use with my clients to win more business and love your career again. What if the most meaningful thing you did for your mental health wasn't something new — but a return to what already brings you joy? Dan recently sat down with journalist and broadcaster Sam Sanders on the Sam Sanders Show to explore exactly that idea. Sam has a concept he calls "modern scriptures": the movies, albums, and TV shows you return to again and again because they ground you, center you, and remind you what matters. Dan shares the pop culture that never fails to lift his spirits — and along the way, the two get into why beauty and art are actually central to human flourishing, why Ferris Bueller is more Buddhist than you might think, and what the research says about making resolutions stick — including the one upstream habit that makes everything else easier. Papa, Hans, and Harry play hooky to talk about the classic John Hughes film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
For our 150th Episode, Brian decided to highlight one of his favorite films, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Questions or comments about what we talked about? Click here to let us know!
He's a righteous dude, and a symbol for getting outside of your comfort zone, taking the most out of a sick day, and maybe pushing the limits of friendships and parades. You chose it and we are covering it, the 40th anniversary of Ferris Bueller's Day Off directed by John Hughes.
What if everything you've been told about creating influence is wrong? This week on the podcast, I deconstruct the recent New York Times Style magazine article about Generation X, which reveals how a generation dismissed as 'slackers' actually created the blueprint for authentic influence and how their legacy can inspire anyone seeking to use their voice for real impact. In this episode, I explore: Why Gen X's reputation as "slackers" is a myth, and how their discernment and authenticity shaped culture Lessons from iconic Gen X art and films (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and more) How Gen X's refusal to perform for approval is a model for today's influential voices Why authenticity, not polish, creates lasting transformation for speakers The connection between Gen X wisdom and my book "Being Smart is Stupid"—why performing intelligence undermines real leadership More from Tricia Transform your expertise into a speaking legacy with me inside The Big Talk Academy Mastery Join me LIVE for my Free Monthly Workshop Explore my content and follow me on YouTube Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook Connect with me on LinkedIn Visit my website at TriciaBrouk.com
Airey Bros Radio – Episode 431 is a deep-dive on the real mechanics of modern college recruiting — not highlight reels and slogans, but the communication systems that shape commitments, retention, transfers, and culture. We're joined by Dan Tudor, founder of Tudor Collegiate Strategies and host of the College Recruiting Weekly Podcast, after a recommendation from Coach Steve Delgado (SWOCC Cross Country & Track). Dan has spent 20+ years helping college coaches and athletic departments build recruiting messaging that actually works — emails, letters, texts, phone calls, campus visits, and the “what happens next” process that recruits (and families) crave. In this episode, we break down:Why most coaches were never trained to recruit (and why recruiting is really sales + storytelling)The biggest recruiting mistake: coaches recruiting athletes the way they were recruitedWhy email is #1 for athletes (yes — in 2026)How to write a first message that feels real, personal, and response-worthyWhy letters are more powerful than ever (and how they influence families + decision-making)How to stay consistent without sounding like a used car salesmanWhy D3 can be a better financial deal than people think (academic aid, grants, packaging)Transfer portal recruiting: why it's more business decision than emotional decisionHow better communication reduces transfers and increases buy-in
From high-speed chases to preposterous parades, Chicago dazzles on the silver screen. Last episode, we attempted to uncover the best movie ever filmed in Chicago. What we found was that it was impossible to name a definitive best, let alone name every movie that deserves recognition. Today, we dive deeper into movies that resonate with Chicagoans with two film critics: Marya E. Gates, author of Cinema Her Way: Visionary Female Directors in Their Own Words and Robert Daniels, associate editor of RogerEbert.com. They argue that the city doesn't just look good on screen, it also helps tell stories that are reflective of its residents. Gates and Daniels talk about Chicago movies that highlight crime and political tropes (like “The Untouchables,” “Medium Cool,” and “Call Northside 777”), movies that bend space and time to navigate through Chicago's geography (like “The Fugitive” and “Blues Brothers”), and movies that follow teenagers as they romp around the city (like “Cooley High” and “Ferris Bueller's Day Off”). Plus, they've got recommendations for Chicago movies that may have flown under your radar.
In this episode, we dive into the 1986 John Hughes masterpiece, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, exploring why this "ultimate game of hooky" remains a cultural touchstone. We follow the charismatic Ferris as he fakes a terminal illness to lead his anxious best friend Cameron and girlfriend Sloane on a whirlwind adventure through Chicago in a "borrowed" Ferrari on the Back to the Past Podcast from the M&J Creations Studios on the Lion's Den Podcast Network powered by Stark Roofing! Mike joins Matt Lewis for a lively crossover conversation that opens with deep dives into Huey Lewis puns before shifting into the Democrats' "affordability" message, why word wars matter more than policy wins, and how political optics collide with economic reality. They unpack everything from tariffs to AI dislocation to the future of the Democratic bench — and why charisma might matter more than infrastructure. Later, Mike breaks down the exploding sports-betting scandals in baseball and the NBA, how prop bets make cheating easier to spot, and why league integrity hinges on catching every idiot who thinks he can game the system. Plus: a brief remembrance of Parker Lewis, the Ferris-Bueller-for-TV that almost worked.
