Robert O. Marshall, an insurance man from Toms River New Jersey, was convicted of capital murder & sentenced to death in 1986. Marshall had hired two men from Shreveport, Lousiana, Larry Thompson and Billy Wayne McKinnion, to murder his wife Maria Marshall. Larry Thompson was tried with Marshall and acquitted. Thompson admitted to shooting Maria Marshall in 2014. In this episode, Roberta takes a look at the 2003 advocacy documentary for Marshall's innocence entitled "Fatal Mistakes". The film was made by students at the Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. The documentary contains what was at the time Marshall's first interview in 18 years. The Roberta Glass True Crime Report is produced by Ati Abdo MacDonald. Many thanks to Natalie Donna of the Dystopian Deep Dives podcast and YouTube channel for making the video for this episode. Welcome to Bed Crime Stories - a weekly True Crime Podcast where Nikki & Charlie pour themselves a drink and tell one another the stories that keep them up at night! In this episode, Charlie tells the story of the contract killing of Maria Marshall by her husband Robert O. Marshall on a dark stretch of highway in New Jersey in 1984. Nikki and Charlie inject light humor to alleviate some of the heaviness of the stories they tell - stories involving varying kinds of true crime. Neither Nikki nor Charlie are experts, just lifelong fans of all-things true crime. music credit Industrial Music Box by Kevin MacLeod Link: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3910-industrial-music-box License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Few lawyers will dream of the career that Judge Millard can claim as his own. He has served as the head Prosecutor for Ocean County and served as a Superior Court judge in New Jersey, more specifically serving as the Presiding Judge of both the Family Part and the Law Division. Before ascending to the bench, he combined a busy law practice with involvement in some high-profile cases, including one which inspired senior citizens to bus in to watch the trial and express their outrage. Check out a couple of Judge Millard's reported decisions: Rose v. Csapo, 818 A.2d. 340, (Ch. Div. 2002) Carney v. Hansell, 831A.2d. 128, (Ch. Div. 2003) Here are a few important opinions written/shaped by Judge Millard: Dune Case https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=6481502743981388560&q=millard&hl=en&as_sdt=4,31 Child Custody Change https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=1783086666619347980&q=millard&hl=en&as_sdt=4,31 Equitable Remedy - Unmarried Couple https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=1437417782241240482&q=millard+carney&hl=en&as_sdt=4,31 Cohabitation During Divorce https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=5732515355778388304&q=millard+rose&hl=en&as_sdt=4,31 He had post-conviction involvement with the Robert O. Marshall case that produced a best-selling book by Joe McGinnis called BLIND FAITH, and an Emmy nominated mini-series. Social work and the law often intersect in family and divorce litigation. Judge Millard has two successful daughters - one a lawyer and one a social worker. Tune in Today and let us know what you think!
