If you don't know about the newly created US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), there's a strong chance they already know about you.Created on January 20 by US President Donald Trump through Executive Order, DOGE's broad mandate is “modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”To fulfill its mission, though, DOGE has taken great interest in Americans' data.On February 1, DOGE team members without the necessary security clearances accessed classified information belonging to the US Agency for International Development. On February 17, multiple outlets reported that DOGE sought access to IRS data that includes names, addresses, social security numbers, income, net worth, bank information for direct deposits, and bankruptcy history. The next day, the commissioner of the Social Security Administration stepped down after DOGE requested access to information stored there, too, which includes records of lifetime wages and earnings, social security and bank account numbers, the type and amount of benefits individuals received, citizenship status, and disability and medical information. And last month, one US resident filed a data breach notification report with his state's Attorney General alleging that his data was breached by DOGE and the man behind it, Elon Musk.In speaking with the news outlet Data Breaches Dot Net, the man, Kevin Couture, said:“I filed the report with my state Attorney General against Elon Musk stating my privacy rights were violated as my Social Security Number, banking info was compromised by accessing government systems and downloading the info without my consent or knowledge. What other information did he gather on me or others? This is wrong and illegal. I have no idea who has my information now.”Today on the Lock and Code podcast with host David Ruiz, we speak with Sydney Saubestre, senior policy analyst at New America's Open Technology Institute, about what data DOGE has accessed, why the government department is claiming it requires that access, and whether or not it is fair to call some of this access a “data breach.”“[DOGE] haven't been able to articulate why they want access to some of these data files other than broad ‘waste, fraud, and abuse.' That, ethically, to me, points to it being a data breach.”Tune in today. You can also find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and whatever preferred podcast platform you use.For all our cybersecurity coverage, visit Malwarebytes Labs at malwarebytes.com/blog.Show notes and credits:Intro Music: “Spellbound” by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Outro Music: “Good God” by Wowa (unminus.com)Listen up—Malwarebytes...

Save & Invest In Your Future Today, visit: https://www.acorns.com/rejects Join Greg Alba and Andrew Gordon as they dive into the outrageous world of the 2015 comedy Get Hard! When wealthy hedge fund manager James King (Will Ferrell, famed for Anchorman and Talladega Nights) is wrongfully sentenced to a decade behind bars for financial fraud, he turns to Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart, celebrated for Jumanji and Ride Along) – a small‑town car wash owner with a rough‑and‑tumble exterior – to “train” him for prison life. The film also features Alison Brie as Angie King (Community, GLOW), Craig T. Nelson (Parenthood, Poltergeist, Coach) as Judge Martin Barrow, and Tip “T.I.” Harris (Ant-Man, chart‑topping musician) as Ramon, each bringing their own brand of humor and heart to the mix. Greg & Andrew break down every unforgettable scene—from the hilariously misguided “prison training” montages (eye exams, treadmill escapes, and improvised wrestling moves) to the iconic poolside pep talks and rooftop cardio drills. We'll also dissect the film's sharp social commentary, outrageous one‑liners, and the dynamic chemistry between Ferrell and Hart that made Get Hard a laugh‑out‑loud hit. Episode 359: Lung Cancer Screening, Early Detection, and Disparities “I was actually speaking to a primary care audience back a few weeks ago, and we were talking about lung cancer screening. And they said, ‘Our patients, they don't want to do it.' And I said, ‘Do you remind them that lung cancer is curable?' Because everybody thinks it is a death sentence. But when you're talking about screening a patient, I think it's really important to say, ‘Listen, if we find this early, stage I or stage II, our chances of curing this and it never coming back again is upwards of 60% to 70%,'” ONS member Beth Sandy, MSN, CRNP, thoracic medical oncology nurse practitioner at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, told Jaime Weimer, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BS, AOCNS®, manager of oncology nursing practice at ONS, during a conversation about lung cancer screening. To provide feedback or otherwise reach ONS about the podcast, email pubONSVoice@ons.org. Highlights From This Episode “Unfortunately, the current state of lung cancer screening is pretty low. Our rate of uptake in eligible patients is somewhere between 6% and 20%. And that falls much further below what we see for screening, such as breast cancer screening, prostate cancer screening, and colorectal cancer screening. So certainly, we can do better.” TS 1:32 “If you quit more than 15 or 20 years, your risk of developing lung cancer at that point is significantly lower. And so that's why once patients have quit more than 15 years, they're actually not eligible for screening anymore—because their risk of developing lung cancer is dramatically reduced. And that takes into account when you are a primary care provider, pulmonary, whatever field you work in, and you are running a screening clinic each year that you screen the patient, you have to remind yourself when they quit smoking, because once they reach that 15 years, then they're no longer eligible for screening.” TS 5:17 “One of the strategies that they've used to get the word out is, I watch a lot of baseball. I love the Philadelphia Phillies, watch Phillies games. And so at least once a year, maybe even twice a year, they will take an inning of the baseball broadcast on TV and on the radio separately, and they will bring on either an oncologist or pulmonologist from one of the local cancer centers in our area, and the whole inning—between batters of course—they will talk about lung cancer screening and why it's beneficial.” TS 13:16 “Medicare always has its idiosyncrasies. So Medicare—I went over the rules with you, so the age, the smoking. They follow all of it, except they have a slight difference in age. They cover it for age 50 to 77, as opposed to 80.” TS 16:52 “I think just the other thing that people don't think about is that to go get a medical test done, no matter what test it is, typically people have to take time off of work. And it can be really hard to do that when you are relying on your job, maybe you don't have vacation time, maybe you have children at home that you need to get home to. When people are weighing the risk/benefit and thinking, ‘Well, I'd love to get screened for lung cancer, but I just can't find time to fit it into my schedule, and my job won't let me take off.' These are all things that we don't always think about if you have the luxury of just taking the day off.” TS 20:01

Mark has a conversation with award winning writer and veteran journalist Janice Landryabout her seventh book, Every Little Thing: How Small Acts of Kindness Make a Big Impact, her 2023 diagnosis of Lyme disease which was part of the inspiration for this book, Janice's life as a writer, how having lived adjacent to the ocean in Canada's East Coast has impacted her creative spirit, and so much more. Prior to the interview Mark shares a personal update, comments from recent episodes and reads a word about two Canadian conferences taking place at the end of April 2026: Toronto Indie Author Conference and GritLIT. (You can use code gritLITfriends at checkout to save 25% off the cost of registration). Mark and Janice talk about: Being of the generation that spent their entire summer days outside and not-connected to anything except friends and the world around them The old school-style desk Janice had when she was young and starting to write which was shoved up against a window that looked out on the ocean Telling herself fictional stories to amuse herself when she was young The ocean being one of the single biggest factors on Janice's creative life The importance of Janice's 2022 book EYE OF THE OCEAN Why it's priceless that we create and share Canadian stories How so much of what we do is about all of the people who help us in our achievements and why it's one of the core messages in Janice's latest book The dramatically debilitating side-effects of Lyme disease Why small acts of kindness and sharing uplifting and positive stories is so important The tiny thing (a tick) that ended up inspiring Janice to write the book EVERY LITTLE THING Importance messages of hope and that you're not alone, which come from the book A very special note that a teacher gave to Janice when she was 10 years old, and why she carried it around for fifty years Advice Janice would offer to beginning writers And more . . . In March 2025, Halifax West MP Lena Metlege Diab presented Janice with the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Government of Canada for her body of work, books, and longtime mental health advocacy. Janice is a veteran journalist and proud Haligonian. In May 2025, she released her seventh book, Every Little Thing – how small acts of kindness make a big impact, following her 2023 Lyme disease diagnosis. Janice has since fully recovered and wrote this “small book with big messages” to thank society's many and varied helpers, including some of her own. Janice's longtime publisher is Nova Scotia's Pottersfield Press. Her last two books, Eye of the Ocean and Silver Linings, were both bestsellers. Janice's biggest inspiration is her family, husband, Rob, and daughter, Laura. Through her writing, she also honours her late parents, Baz and Theresa. Janice began writing longform non-fiction to tell the gripping story of her firefighter father's national Medal of Bravery for his part in the near-death rescue of an infant from a harrowing 1978 Halifax house fire.
