Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to today's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Several guests have come on the podcast to discuss Phish's famous Halloween shows, and there's always plenty to say. Today's guest, Kevin Rovner of the Kevin Rovner Band chose not only the most controversial Halloween show in Phish's history–the infamous Wingsuit set from 2013, but he also chose to zero in on one specific song from that set: “You Never Know.” The last song from that set, and it hasn't been played since that night. When it comes to Phish Halloween shows, the discussion always reveals a lot about the guest, and today's conversation is quite refreshing. Although today's episode really focuses on the fall 2013 tour and the unprecedented step of Phish playing a brand new album in front of an unsuspecting audience, there's also a deep discussion of how the Wingsuit Halloween was a turning point for the band. Looking back 12 years later, it's easy to see how the playing playing “an album from the future” changed the very concept of a musical costume, and helped direct the band to more recent Halloween sets that break from tradition. But there's more to it than that. Kevin brings our attention to one of the lesser-known Phish songs, “You Never Know,” that gives us a brief lesson in Phish history, and also provides a notable contrast between the music and the story that inspired it. In other words, one could argue that it proves how Phish was still pushing themselves even within the premise of that unbelievable set of all new music. So let's join Kevin to talk about Spongebob SquarePants, SPAC, and Abe Vagoda, as we discuss “You Never Know” from October 31, 2013 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.Support the show
In this episode, I was lucky enough to interview Joshua Davidson, CEO and founder of Chop Dawg.Growing up just outside of Atlantic City during the Great Recession, Josh saw firsthand how fragile traditional industries could be. Watching friends' families lose homes and his father work multiple jobs gave him a survival instinct and a drive to create opportunities for himself. By the time he was a teenager, Josh was building websites door-to-door and helping small businesses grow, even in the middle of an economic downturn. That early tenacity and optimism became the foundation of what would evolve into Chop Dawg.Over 17 years later, Chop Dawg has grown from building websites for local businesses to developing complex apps and software for Fortune 500 companies, healthcare systems, universities, and household names like Wawa, Six Flags, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Josh shares how staying true to unconventional branding choices, leveraging repeat business and referrals, and being an early adopter of trends like generative search (GEO) have kept his company ahead of the curve. Through it all, his focus has remained on understanding clients deeply, building genuine partnerships, and refusing to play catch-up with competitors—choosing instead to set the pace in his industry.Be inspired by Joshua Davidson's path from teenage hustler to leading Chop Dawg's global impact in this episode of The First Customer!Guest Info:Chop Dawghttps://www.chopdawg.comJoshua Davidson's LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/dasjoshua/Connect with Jay on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jayaigner/The First Customer Youtube Channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@thefirstcustomerpodcastThe First Customer podcast websitehttps://www.firstcustomerpodcast.comFollow The First Customer on LinkedInhttp://www.linkedin.com/company/the-first-customer-podcast/

This week in Port Charles, Jason led the way in honoring Monica with a moving memorial, guiding the Quartermaines and their loved ones through a powerful farewell. Several people shared their memories, with Lucy offering her reflection of their shared history. Lulu reminded Jason that he was always part of Monica's home. Ned was ready to tell Brook Lynn about his past affair with Monica, but she revealed she already knew, sparing him the awkward conversation. Tracy fled to Atlantic City overwhelmed, and Lois stepped in to bring her home. When Drew showed up, Tracy immediately wheeled him out of the chapel, refusing to let him stay. Brook Lynn bonded with Dante over Gio's presence.. Away from the memorial, Britt received a chilling package hinting that Cesar may still be alive. Questions arose about Nathan's return from the dead. Rocco began forming a connection with Britt, Molly admitted her feelings for Cody to Alexis, and Portia and Isaiah agreed to pursue their relationship in secret. Meanwhile, Trina confronted Jordan about Curtis, and Curtis confessed to Marshall what he had been doing the night Drew was shot. The week closed with Monica's photo placed beside Alan's at the hospital —while a mysterious woman's presence in the Quartermaine Crypt left Port Charles with new questions still to be answered. This podcast is not endorsed by, directly affiliated with, maintained, authorized, or sponsored by ABC Television Network, Prospect Studios, or any official General Hospital organizations. We're are back going over the top sports media stories, newsmakers, etc. from over the weekend on the newest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast!"Host T.J. Rives and Co-Host Mike Gill of the "The Sports Bash" weekday afternoon show in Atlantic City, NJ return with their takes on:it was the celebration of the 50th anniversary on CBS' "NFL Today" show that debuted in 1975. The network did great tributes to it with Brent Musberger in the studio and the guys go over it.Then, the NFL had some CRAZY endings with blocked field goals in Philly, Tampa and Cleveland. The guys go over the games and play highlights from Merril Reese on the Eagles call and even, T.J. filling in for legend Gene Deckerhoff on the Bucs radio call of their dramatic win. Also, how pitiful is the Monday Night Football doubleheader for ESPN/ABC next week?! Yuck. And, the guys analyze Fox Sports' Greg Olsen appearing to get aggravated with Dave Portnoy of the new "Wake Up Barstool" show on FS1 cable during their live interview segment Monday morning that he's being PAID to be on with them? Was this legit or perhaps contrived to help get some audience going for the show? The guys also talk some college football and the tough weekend for the lack of many close games. However, this week wth Notre Dame at Arkansas, Oregon at Penn State and Alabama at Georgia, there are massive matchups. There's also more clarity on ESPN rolling out the "Inside the NBA" studio coverage for the upcoming season starting in November. Mike has more on that. And, the boys wonder if Bruce Pearl "retiring" from Auburn in college basketball with their season starting soon means he's headed to the TV studio and maybe with CBS and leading to their March coverage? It's all on the "LWOS Media Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!

The first Black Miss America, Vanessa Williams, was crowned in Atlantic City on 17th September, 1983, with the usual fanfare. But within ten months, she had returned her crown, following a nude photo scandal. She had already received hate mail and even death threats - some from racist whites who hated seeing a Black Miss America, others from Black critics who felt her light skin and blue eyes played into white beauty standards. But then, without her consent, Penthouse announced it would publish explicit photos of Vanessa taken years earlier when she was an aspiring teenage model. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly consider how Williams rebuilt her career from scratch, via Disney, Broadway, hit songs, and movies; discover the moment the pageant formally apologised to her, after 32 years; and trace the overt and covert racism in Miss America's long history… Further Reading: • ‘On Saturday night Vanessa Williams became the first black woman crowned Miss America' (UPI, 1983): https://www.upi.com/Archives/1983/09/18/On-Saturday-night-Vanessa-Williams-became-the-first-black-woman-crowned-Miss-America/9839432705600/ • ‘Why Vanessa Williams Gave Up Her Miss America Crown' (TIME, 2015): https://time.com/3961120/miss-america-scandal-vanessa-williams/ • ‘Miss America 1984: Crowning Moment' (NBC, 1983): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBmoNXrr0w Love the show? On August 7, 1972, 16-year-old Jeannette DePalma left her home in Springfield, New Jersey, to go to work, but she never made it back home. Six weeks later, Jeannette's body was found atop Devil's Teeth, a cliff in Houdaille Quarry. With very little evidence, no clear suspects, and rumors of her being the victim of a Satanic Cult, her case has gone cold with no answers to be had for any of the countless questions left in the wake of her death. 53 years later, the mystery of what really happened to Jeannette DePalma has continued to baffle those who still remember her. Today, I am joined by Brian Santana to break down the case file and walk you through one of my home state's most baffling crimes. Send us a textOn this episode of The Fixate & Binge Podcast, host Joseph Curdy sits down with novelist J.L. Flannery, whose debut novel 'Trouble in Atlantic City' plunges readers into the grit, glamour, and danger of 1927 Atlantic City -- at the height of Prohibition. Drawing inspiration from meticulous research and HBO's BOARDWALK EMPIRE, Flannery blends history and fiction to bring bootleggers, speakeasies, and political corruption to life on the page. We dive into the painstaking research behind the novel, Flannery's fascination with America' Prohibition era (from across the pond in England), and the timeless allure of Atlantic City's underworld. Along the way, we explore the blurred lines between history and imagination, the tremendous influence of Boardwalk Empire on Flannery's novel and the ingenious way readers are presented with two competing narratives on the truth.Joe also shares his Letterboxd review for SOVEREIGN -- which must be seen!Thank you for listening! On Wednesday July 23rd, Ms. Alina Habba, the acting US Attorney for the state of New Jersey, released a statement regarding a former Atlantic City official who was being sentenced to 2 years behind bars for the crime of submitting fake Mail-In Ballots. Here's what the statement read in part: “An Atlantic County, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to 24 months in prison for his role in the procurement, casting, and tabulation of fraudulent mail-in ballots submitted in connection with the general election held on November 8, 2022.”The man in question here is a Political Organizer slash former President of the Atlantic City, city council — Mr. Craig Callaway. His story is quite interesting—because not only does it highlight a fascinating, concrete example of major ballot fraud, but also, it shows us how this type of fraud cuts across party lines—being used by both Republicans and Democrats. Now we covered Mr. Callaway's story briefly when the charges against him first came to light last year, but now that he's pled guilty and has been sentenced to prison, let's go through the details of his election operations over in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
