We are back with our good friend Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Since the last time we interviewed Kenny, he has released a follow up album to "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 1" iornically titled, "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 2". In addition to the new album, we talk about Kenny's experience actually playing Jimi Hendrix's "Woodstock" guitar and his upcoming tour, plus 2 new albums set to release in 2025. Kenny is a five-time-Grammy-nominated guitarist. The new album was recorded at the Legendary Fame Stuios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This project chronicles Shepherd's journey of musical evolution, touching on stories of loss, redemption, and memorable melodies. All crafted by an elite team of songwriters. Born in Louisiana, in 1977, Shepherd's own life has never followed the script. Steeped in classic blues and rock 'n' roll from an early age by his dad - a respected Lousiana radio personality and promoter - Kenny soon reached for his first Fender stratocaster and found he didn't require lessons to make it cry and wail. Long before Warner Brothers subsidairy Giant Records offered a deal, Shepherd had toured in clubs which he was too young to drink in. Please also check out our precious KWS interview released: October 7, 2023.

VERSONO Medical Ltd has begun enrolling patients in the FREEFLOW pivotal study for its FastWire System. FastWire is a truly disruptive technology designed to quickly access previously untreatable complex blockages in arteries, increasing success rates and reducing risk of amputations via endovascular techniques. As the revolutionary endovascular platform technology enables the treatment of severely diseased arterial blockages, it opens new clinical frontiers for physicians, with the aim of saving limbs from amputation and saving lives for patients globally. FREEFLOW will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of VERSONO's FastWire device technology through the FDA-approved Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study. Subject to the successful completion of the study, the company will seek US market approval to launch FastWire. The study is being performed in three centres in Lousiana, Tennessee, and Iowa. The first patients have already been enrolled at two of the clinical sites; the Vascular Institute of the Midwest (VIM) in Davenport, Iowa; and the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) in Houma, Louisiana. Enrolment at the study's third site, the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga (VIC) in Tennessee, will begin in the coming weeks. Professor Craig Walker, MD, an internationally renowned leader in the field, is FREEFLOW's Principal Investigator (PI). He and his team in Louisiana, with Dr Eric Dippel, and his team in Davenport, and Dr Chris Lesar with his team in Chattanooga, have completed initial procedures and intend to complete enrolment and the IDE study over the coming months. VERSONO Medical's FastWire System uses a novel proprietary ultrasonic technology developed and patented by the company over the past six years. It can cross through severe, complex blockages in patient's arteries, above, and below, the knee with Critical Limb Threatening Ischemia (CLTI). The technology has huge potential application in endovascular procedures. More than 230 million people, aged 25 or older, are living with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). It is prevalent in around 20% of those aged over 65 and, with a rapidly aging population, these numbers are expected to double by 2030. The four main risk factors for PAD include smoking, hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol. Alarmingly more than 30 per cent of patients with the most advanced presentation of PAD, CLTI, will have a limb amputated within the first year post diagnosis, even greater concern is that more than 60 per cent of patients diagnosed will die within five years. CLTI occurs when total blockages form in the arteries of the lower extremities. Over time blood flow reduces, and eventually, as a total occlusion forms, it eventually completely stops blood flow through the artery. The rising risk of sepsis in the ischemic tissues raises the risk of amputation, restoring blood flow can prevent minor and major amputations. Prof. Walker has already presented the results of the FREEFLOW first in human (FIH) Pilot study at the New Cardiovascular Horizons meeting in Chicago. That found FastWire to be hugely effective at crossing severely calcified long lesions in tibial and Fem Pop arteries, enabling their treatment, reducing the risk of amputation in these the most vulnerable of patients. VERSONO Medical's FastWire Technology has been awarded European Innovation Council and Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund Grants. The European Innovation Council's funds is to assist finalising and commercialising FastWire. The Irish Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment and Enterprise Ireland's Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund is enabling Versono develop its product portfolio a pipeline of future Clinical indications for FastWire. VERSONO Medical now employs 22 staff in Parkmore, Galway and is developing its presence in the US. It is focused on getting FastWire into the hands of physicians to help meet a rapidly growing global clinical need in peripheral vascular interventi...

Joyce Vance hosts #SistersInLaw to mourn the 2-year anniversary of Dobbs, alert us to the growing threats to our rights, and tear into Lousiana's law that puts the 10 Commandments in classrooms. In the #Sisters analysis, they explain why precedent, the intentions of the Framers, and the Establishment Clause all point to the law's rejection pending a ruling on the ACLU's challenge. Then, they discuss the US v. Rahimi SCOTUS decision, why there were so many different opinions despite an 8-1 ruling, and how the decision affects gun laws with an in-depth exploration of how the court operates. They also settle the current debate over whether Alvin Bragg tried Trump correctly and debunk the disinformation around the validity of the conviction. Listen Now to Avi Esther We had the pleasure of meeting Avi Esther last month when she was in town from the UK for speaking at the Discovery Sessions, the Bay Area’s annual gathering of the psychedelic community. The topic - “DESTIGMATIZING AMANITA MUSCARIA.” Amanita Muscaria is that cute archetypal red mushroom with white dots. It’s psychoactive compound is muscimol, a potent agonist (activator) of GABA, a brain neurotransmitter known for calming effects, and plays a significant role in controlling bodily functions like mood, anxiety, and sleep. It is legal in the US, except for Lousiana. Avi has researched it’s chemistry and biological mechanisms, Searched out myths and stories from the old world has worked therapeutically with this ancient ally. She honors the ancients of the land who worked with these entheogens alongside the science and ethical practices. We think you’ll enoy what she has to say about our old friend, Amanita Muscaria. Jeannie DelGreco, a Lafayette realtor with eXp Realty, joins Discover Lafayette to share her rich and storied entrepreneurial journey in sales. While Jeannie's current career today as a mom and realtor with eXp Realty is fulfilling and successful, in this interview, Jeannie looks back at the various lessons learned and experiences she survived that made her the person she is today. And to put it into perspective, Jeannie is a highly successful real estate agent with eXp Realty, being ranked in 2023 by the firm as the #4 sales agent in Lousiana and #2 in Acadiana with $14 million in sales volume. While Jeannie has never thought of herself as a sales person, she remembers as a child launching a small business selling Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe laetivirens) plants door to door all on her own. She says, "It was a brave thing to do, knocking on doors to sell the baby plants I had placed in small egg cartons, asking people to buy one for 25 cents or 4 for $1.00! At LSU as a student, she similarly worked with a friend, painting t-shirts or party cups for sorority events to earn extra spending money. One summer changed Jeannie's life trajectory when she was asked to spend the summer with her mother's close friend from New Iberia, Sandra DeBlanc, who lived in Columbus, Ohio, who was employed as Director of Sales for Victoria's Secret Catalog. Sandy had served in the Air Force Intelligence during the Vietnam War, and was a wonderful role model for this young girl who needed a bit of direction. Sandy hired Jeannie to join the sales force team for Victoria's Secret Catalog for the summer and she was on her way to learning customer relations. During the time Jeannie worked for Victoria's Secret Catalog, it was before the internet became a dominant method way to make sales, and people had to phone in their orders. Catalogs were mailed out weekly and the sales force in Columbus were mainly college girls such as Jeannie. She loved the work and learned how build rapport with customers. She learned how to deal with people who were calling in angry about an order that had gone awry, as well as those who were just shopping, asking for assistance. Jeannie found it natural and easy to describe the garments, get the customers to envison themselves in an outift, and suggest ways to finish a look, encouraging customers to buy more, thereby increasing average order volume. She remained in Columbus, and attended The Ohio State University studying business, marketing, and human resources. "I loved the sales work at Victoria's Secret Catalog, and I also learned key lessons from my mom's friend, Sandy, who taught me that you have to pay your dues in the work place. Don't expect to come in and be promoted right away. You have to earn your position." On the day of Jeannie's graduation from Ohio State University, her parents were in town and attended a festival with her. While enjoying the festival, she met a milliner named Patricia Shypertt who made custom hats and holding a raffle to give away a flat travel hat to the lucky winner. Lo and behold, Jeannie won the hat and started a conversation with the milliner inquiring about her practice of designing hats. This serendipitous event led Jeannie down another path, where she decided to become a milliner. She quit her job at Victoria's Secret Catalog, became a waitress to support herself, and started making custom hats in Columbus, Ohio. Jeannie on graduation day with mentor Sandra DeBlanc "I had always had this idea that to be artistic, it had to begin when you were very young. You couldn't change course in your 20's. Patricia (the milliner who mentored Jeannie) was in her 40's and she said, 'Oh no, I just learned how to do this two or three years ago. I'll help you in any way I can." After Jeannie began garnering clients, her parents wanted to invest in her company, and took her on a buying trip to New York City. While there,

There is the East Coast and there is the West Coast, but aficionados of hazy IPA know not to sleep on the Gulf Coast, thanks largely to Parish Brewing (https://parishbeer.com) in Broussard, Louisiana. Parish's Ghost in the Machine has become a juggernaut in the world of hazy IPA, earning accolades such as a 2019 Beer of the Year (https://beerandbrewing.com/the-best-19-beers-of-2019/) from Craft Beer & Brewing and a mention on critic Alex Kidd's top ten list in 2020 (https://beerandbrewing.com/critics-list-alex-kidds-best-in-2020/). More recently, Parish won a spot in the top 20 small regional breweries (https://beerandbrewing.com/best-in-beer-2023-readers-choice-your-favorite-breweries-by-size/) as voted on by the readers of Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine®. Nor is their success limited to IPA—Parish also picked up a silver medal at the 2023 Great American Beer Festival for its top-selling wheat beer, Canebrake. In this episode, head brewer (and Master Cicerone) Ryan Speyrer joins the podcast to discuss the ways they brew their iconic hazy IPAs, touching on: the evolution of Ghost in the Machine, from West Coast to hazy the roles that wheat and oats do (and don't) play in hazy IPA balancing specific hop varieties between whirlpool and dry hop to maximize the expression of each using classic hops such as Cascade along with Simcoe in modern, fruit-forward IPA the importance of extended cold-conditioning And more. (Part 3) In the spring of 2005, law enforcement officials in southern Louisiana had a growing number of murder victims they had begun to suspect were connected to an unidentified serial killer operating in the area. The victims were all men, mostly in their twenties and thirties, many had histories of drug and alcohol abuse or were known to police as sex-workers, and all had been strangled and dumped in secondary locations.Over the course of a decade, Ronald Dominique developed into one of the worst and most prolific serial killers in American history; yet his story and those of his victims remains largely unknown and ignored by the mainstream media. 544. We chat with David Ervin, creator of the drive-thru daiquiri stand. "The humble history of the drive-thru daiquiri dates back to 1981, when David Ervin first opened the Daiquiri Factory in Lafayette, Lousiana. Ervin got the idea from a liquor store he frequented during his college days, which had a frozen drink stand on the side. He saw that model's success and thought he could take it a step further by replicating just the frozen drinks part of the equation. He wasn't sure about the legal status, though, and so he did some investigating to see if there was a precedent so he'd know if his business could withstand legal scrutiny. But Ervin couldn't find anyone else who'd tried, and he couldn't afford to pay someone to figure it out for him. As he put it in NOLA, 'It was the first business in the nation dedicated to specializing in frozen cocktails, drive-thru or otherwise'" (Mashed.com). This week in Louisiana history. October 13, 1931.
