I'm joined by first-time guest David (who I also happen to married to) to discuss crisis of faith and culty churches in The Last Exorcism. We're also discussing our personal journey with deconstruction and David's experience as an ordained missionary. If you're in touring band and you're interested in free lodging while on tour, check out RYFO.
Toby talks with Dave Hamiltion about that sweet delicious God made beverage known as whiskey. Dave knows a lot and Toby drinks it a lot so this is fun. We also talk about Ryfo and touring bands during the pandemic
Justus talked with David Hamilton of RYFO to discuss what David sees as some key ways to heal the apparent divide between artists and the church through better community practices. Stay tuned at the end for “Living Water” by Fuel Music off their EP “The Life.”
Greetings, Congregation! This week is a fun episode recorded LIVE (except it wasn't aired live..so..) from Dallas, TX! Jed was in town for a conference, and just happened to stay at the same airBnB as David Hamilton..the operations manager of RYFO..and organization looking to bridge the gap between musicians and christianity. David talks about what it's like to work as a full-time missionary, how he fell into that role, and what RYFO is all about. AJ Maestre also joins the group, and we end up talking about our favorite horror movies. Oh yeah, and Ryan Davis says hello as well. Be sure and check out RYFO on the interwebs and support this awesome cause! ryfo.org churchandotherdrugs@gmail.com patreon.com/churchandotherdrugs RYFO began as a college-dorm-room dream in January 2004, and was made a reality in January 2009 with the launch of our first website. Since January 2009, the missionaries involved in RYFO’s missions agency ‘RYFO Network‘, have served the needs of thousands of touring musicians with practical assistance, free meals, beds to sleep in, care-packs, prayer, and friendship. The original vision to serve touring musicians was birthed from seeing Christ-following loved ones struggle through the unique pressures, temptations, and realities that come with life on the road. Today, though we still hold a significant desire to see Christ-following musicians on the road cared for, God has also deepened our desire to see the Good News of Jesus’ love shown and shared with all musicians (local and touring) that do not have a personal relationship with him, and those that may have been disenfranchised from the Church for one reason or another. We long to be a part of the Father’s reconciliation plan, while continuing to see the needs of Christ-following musicians supported as well. Our heart is to see musicians discipled and to see God’s glory reflected through their lives.
Tripp Fuller from the Homebrewed Christianity podcast talks about how his family were bad Southern Baptists, how he sees trends changing in the south, and his upcoming movie. Joey loves to teach about good old prayer, and Toby talks with Taylor and David about RYFO. What the heck is RYFO? Well, it's here. The official craziest tour story we've ever heard here at ATSG. Jason Wisdom mins the story and tells us about the highs of being in Becoming The Archetype as well as the lows of not being in Becoming The Archetype. Jason tells us a little about how the Solamors album hit him at the perfect time and...and at the same time had to be hidden as much as possible. Jason Wisdom becomes a Bible teacher. He then feels a different calling on his life in "RYFO". RYFO [rye-foe] is a non-profit advocate for outreach to musicians. So, ladies and gents, Jason Wisdom climbed just about as Christian metal guys can get and now he is on a mission to help the very industry that made him who he is. Listen up, this is a GOOD story.
