As much as we all love to talk about ourselves, I never thought I would actually do an entire episode about the real Serena behind Thrift Diving. My friend, Laura Rudder, a fellow Thrift Diving reader and listener, asked to interview me to dig a little deeper into who is the real face behind Thrift Diving. She wanted to know more about who I was, where I come from, what I studied in college, how I met my husband, what jobs I did prior to starting Thrift Diving, and more. She and I delve into my family dynamics, as well. In this interview, I’m on the line with the one, the only, Serena Appiah, the owner, publisher, and carpenter-in-training behind Thrift Diving, a blog and YouTube channel that inspires people to decorate, improve, and maintain their home with paint, power tools, and thrift stores. As a mom of three boys, ages 13, 9, and 7, Serena has outfitted her home with many thrift store treasures--not only because it's economical and fun, but because raising three boys means things will get dirty (or broken!). Serena left her job back in 2015 and since then has grown by leaps and bounds. It’s been exciting to just watch from the sidelines and see all the stuff she has accomplished, the brands she is working with and the business she has built. I know there are some awesome things we can learn from her.Click here for the show notes
Serena Appiah from the YouTube channel and website ThriftDiving joins me to talk about how to refinish and upcycle furniture. In this week's episode of the Extra Paycheck Podcast I am joined by Serena Appiah, the founder of ThriftDiving.com. Serena is a mom and a successful blogger who writes about creating "do-it-yourself" projects that help you save money while improving your home. In this episode Serena shares her unique experience of growing her blog and monetizing it.
Do you say Reeobee or Ryeobee? Serena and I both say Ree! Serena Appiah from Thrift Diving loves 30 room makeovers, but she’s doing something different—a 30 day outdoor patio makeover. Follow along with Serena as she does her OWN patio makeover as well as a weekly webisode with Ryobi Outdoors showing you that it’s not so overwhelming as you might think. Accept Serena’s challenge this month to do your own #OutdoorOverhaul and enter to win from Ryobi Outdoors. Serena may build an outdoor bench/sofa similar to Ana White’s design on Ryobi Nation. Serena talks about her laundry room makeover as well as her Master Bath Makeover . I got Serena to spill the beans on a new webisode series called Toolin’ Around, I don’t think it has aired yet—because I couldn’t find anything about it. One of the hosts is David Sheinkopf, follow his facebook page to keep up with the latest news on that! Serena has a new feature on her blog, Reader of the Month, and asked me to be the guest this week. She also told us that many of her readers mention My Repurposed Life as one of their favorite blogs. Serena’s favorite repurposed project is a DIY Art Caddy made from a knife block, but right up there is her most proud repurposed item, some wooden salad bowls as feet. Gail dishes about the best place to get bun feet FREE! The big question Serena asked me? “if you were not doing My Repurposed Life, or not being a school teacher, what else would you be doing”? Tune in for the answer to THAT burning question. A special thanks to our Sponsor this week: Follow DIY with MRL on Facebook and listen to any episode anytime.
