So we got so caught up looking at the monsters last month, that we missed out on discussing a very important book that came out last month. Let's make up for that by focusing our new episode on Superman Smashes the Klan #1 from DC Comics. Written by Gene Luen Yang and art by Gurihiru, the book is a cross between the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons of the 1940s and current anime styles from Japan. The story itself is set in the 1940s, as a Chinese-American family moves to Metropolis, but they do not receive a friendly welcome to the big city. This is the first of a three-issue series, and we consider it a must read for all ages! Unfortunately, we were a podcaster down at the time of the recording. John had family commitments, so he left Cullen and Jerry to run the show. Fortunately, we had already invited friend of the show Jim McClain to sit in with us to discuss this book. Jim is the creator of the wonderful Solution Squad comic that combines super-heroes and math - trust us, we need more of those books in the world! We are so excited to share our latest interview with you, as we sit down to talk with Solution Squad creator Jim McClain.  Jim's day job (for now) is as a middle school math teacher. Several years ago, Jim started a project to combine his love of comics with teaching math, and came up with the Solution Squad, which features a team of math-based superheroes. Each story allows the team members to showcase their abilities to find the solution.  From the initial first issue to a hard cover collection and more, Jim has found ways to get his books into students' hands around the country. He has spoken at comic conventions and education forums about using comics as a learning tool for young adults. Jim has a new project in the works, Poe and the Mysteriads, which you should take a look at too. We got to meet Serena Guerra at RETCon, and she was kind enough to let our cutest correspondent conduct a small 1 on 1 interview with her. She is an amazing artist who is currently working on The Solution Squad, a comic that emphasized on math skills, alongside with teacher Jim McClain, Rose McClain, etc. She also has done amazing work in "The Mice Templar" The series is an anthropomorphic fantasy tale that follows the struggles of a small group of mice against an evil tyrant king.
