Most Americans agree that our politics are more polarized than ever before. Opinions vary why that is—from the rise of American nationalism to newer generations participating in government. According to John Opdycke, President of Open Primaries, www.openprimaries.org we are overlooking the role that the private organizations of the Democratic and Republican primary parties have. John and the American Heresy crew discuss the work he and his organization is doing to make the candidate selection process more open and accessible. Listen in to hear why this work is to vital for a stronger America, that embraces all voices, and why we as Christians should consider this solution. If you like American Heresy, please subscribe to the podcast, leave a (preferably good) rating and review, and share it with your friends.Visit www.AmericanHeresy.com to contact us and join the show.

America gets the government we vote for. In an age dominated by viral Social Media memes and manipulative Cambridge Analyticas, we further separate our moral expectations from our political preferences. What has transpired has been a continued descent of the behaviors we accept from our leaders. Where elections are now more about views, clicks, and ad money, the most powerful politics are now the most vile.Nathan and Brad discuss what’s going on. Why is the American leadership so dire? How did we get here? Does the Bible offer any perspective on our expectations of our “public servants”?Join the conversation at www.AmericanHeresy.com. Let us know your thoughts and join the show!
The conservative “right” is predominantly pro-gun—in favor of protecting the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution in its broadest sense. How can a religion of love, peace, and turning the other cheek advocate so strongly for the commercialization of instruments of war? There are many misconceptions about Christianity’s relationship to warfare created by history and poor interpretations. The American Heresy hosts wrap up the second part of their gun control conversation by looking at applicable biblical verses and offer up some suggestions of their own.
An issue as complex as Gun Control in America just cannot fit into a 30 minute discussion. So we split it into 2! In this first episode, we lay the groundwork for a discussion, reciting the facts about gun violence, why guns are included in our Constitution and what some societal implications are from increased gun violence.Next week we will release the second half of the discussion focusing on Christianity’s position and what some appropriate solutions might be.
For a country founded by the immigration of those fleeing persecution, tyranny, and disease, we can be pretty tough on (legal & illegal) immigrants. While immigration is a difficult topic these days, what would Christ say about all of this if he were here with us?
Why is the US so messed up? We feel Christian principles can help, but we’ve messed those up too. We explore what we want to do throughout the following episodes and what we can bring to the discussion.
