Rebekah's barrenness proved to be as small an obstacle to the power of God's promise as Sarah's barrenness had been. The LORD answered Isaac's prayer and granted twins. When Rebekah inquired of the LORD as to their struggle inside her womb, the LORD revealed that the two brothers and their descendants would struggle against each other throughout their lives, with the older serving the younger. Their names, Esau and Jacob, reveal something about their character. When they were older, Esau's despising of his birthright led him to sell it for nothing more than a pot of stew. Rev. David Appold, pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Paducah, KY, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Genesis 25:19-34. To learn more about St. Paul's in Paducah, visit stpaulpaducah.org. “In the Beginning” is a series on Sharper Iron that studies Genesis. The first book of Moses sets the stage for God's entire story of salvation. As we learn the beginning of the story, God prepares us to receive the fulfillment of the story: Jesus Christ, the Offspring of the woman who has crushed our enemy's head. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 5, 2026) – University of Kentucky Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart will retire from his role at the end of June after nearly 24 years leading Kentucky Athletics, UK President Eli Capilouto announced Tuesday. Barnhart will remain at UK in a new role focused on the future of sports and workforce development. This week's episode of 'Behind the Blue' features a conversation with Capilouto and Barnhart, recorded just before the announcement. The two reflect on Barnhart's leadership, the transformation of Kentucky Athletics during his tenure, and what comes next for both Barnhart and the university. Capilouto said Barnhart's legacy is defined not only by competitive success, but by a commitment to doing things the right way — creating a culture of excellence, integrity and student support that strengthened the university and its connection to the Commonwealth. Under Barnhart's leadership, UK has won six NCAA team championships and achieved more than 60 conference or conference tournament titles, while also emphasizing academic achievement for student-athletes. Barnhart has also played a significant leadership role nationally, including service on the College Football Playoff Committee and chairing the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee during the COVID era. Following his retirement as athletics director, Barnhart will become the first executive-in-residence of the UK Sport and Workforce Initiative, a new effort designed to prepare students and professionals for leadership across the evolving sports industry. Capilouto said additional details about the initiative will be announced in the coming weeks, and he plans to conduct a listening tour as UK begins its search for the next athletics director. On this episode, Barnhart and Capilouto also discuss the personal elements of Barnhart's decision — including family, faith, and what Barnhart describes as the importance of "passing the baton" at the right time — while expressing gratitude for the people and community that shaped his years at Kentucky. 'Behind the Blue' is available via a variety of podcast providers, including Apple Podcasts, YouTube and Spotify. Subscribe to receive new episodes each week, featuring UK's latest medical breakthroughs, research, artists, writers and the most important news impacting the university. On the Relentless Pursuit Podcast, host Joe Adams interviews Will Hardy, a real estate entrepreneur and film producer who sold his company, moved back to Kentucky, and transformed an abandoned Holiday Inn in Bardstown into The Trail Hotel, a bourbon-centric boutique destination with 95 rooms, multiple bars, a restaurant, and a “bourbon butler” concierge. He shares childhood influences, performance-driven insecurity, body shame, and intense fasting that preceded back-to-back lung collapses during the 2008 crash, plus rebuilding through roofing sales and scaling a large Atlanta house-flipping business. To dive straight into our discussion with Brigid and skip the character and plot summary, jump ahead to 11:20 in this episode. Princess Jory of Astranza faces the difficult reality of becoming engaged to a king, Maddox Kyronan of Incendar, or risk placing the safety and future of her kingdom at risk. Ky's fire magic is rumored to be terribly destructive, which is extremely effective against the enemies, the Draegonis. However, the rumors also suggest that Ky has used such power against his own people. Jory seeks comfort from her only friend, Asher, an assassin for hire and her childhood love. Dark dealings by men in power unexpectedly drive Asher, Ky, and Jory together, and while they ally together out of necessity initially, their attraction to each other draws them even closer. fWotD Episode 3222: High and Low (1963 film) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 1 March 2026, is High and Low (1963 film).High and Low (Japanese: 天国と地獄, Hepburn: Tengoku to Jigoku; lit. 'Heaven and Hell') is a 1963 Japanese police procedural film directed by Akira Kurosawa. It was written by Kurosawa, Hideo Oguni, Eijirō Hisaita, and Ryūzō Kikushima as a loose adaptation of the 1959 novel King's Ransom by Evan Hunter. Starring Toshirō Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai, Kyōko Kagawa and Tatsuya Mihashi, it tells the story of Japanese businessman Kingo Gondō (Mifune) struggling for control of the major shoe company at which he is a board member. He plans a leveraged buyout of the company with his life savings, when a kidnapper mistakenly abducts his chauffeur's son to ransom him for ¥30 million. The film is viewed as influential on police procedural cinema, and has been remade multiple times internationally. The film was produced by Toho, who bought the rights to Hunter's novel in 1961 for $5,000. Working on a production budget of ¥230 million, filming on High and Low began on 2 September 1962, taking place on location at Yokohama and on set at Toho Studios. Only one attempt could be made to film the ransom exchange. The shoot required multiple cameramen, leading to all other film productions being shut down for the day. Filming ended on 30 January 1963. Kurosawa worked with Masaru Satō to score the film in their eighth collaboration together; the film's soundtrack contains a variety of influences, including mambo, classical, and modern popular music. Post-production took just under a month and, after test screenings in mid-February 1963, the film received a wide distribution.High and Low was released in Japan on 1 March 1963 and became the highest-grossing film at the Japanese box office for that year. The film received generally positive reviews both domestically and abroad. In September 1963, the film was entered into the Official Selection for the Venice Film Festival. The limited American release of the film in late November coincided with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, an event that led to a depression in initial box office takings. High and Low was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globe Awards for 1964. Critical opinion of the film has remained high, with analyses of the film focusing on Kurosawa's humanism in tackling the issue of a growing class divide, the growth of an international consumer culture, and the film's use of structure to interrogate morality and social division. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:04 UTC on Sunday, 1 March 2026.For the full current version of the article, see High and Low (1963 film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Brian.
This week, Emily and Ky discuss a possibly autistic detective dog take the teeny tiniest, frankly disappointingly small, bite out of crime. Their quest for good bullying advice continues, but at least they know what to do if they find a gun at their friend's house. To be clear, child abuse isn't funny, but then bullying isn't either. What is funny is the seemingly endless out-of-touch attempts by adults to advise kids on how to handle these issues. Emily and Ky are still only endorsing one tip: just do a kip up! Maybe it'll put you in the major leagues? Please excuse our audio while we grow into our new microphones, courtesy of our sponsor, Teddy!

On this episode of Parenting Is a Joke, Ophira Eisenberg continues her conversation with Annabelle Gurwitch, focusing on community, money, anxiety, and what parenting looks like when your child is grown and the ground keeps shifting. Gurwitch talks about creating stability through “Stammtisch”–style standing lunches and Sunday meetups, describing how scheduled friendships became a lifeline after COVID and as creative communities fractured under self-tapes, remote work, and rising costs. She shares a formative early-career story from the Chelsea Hotel, where waiting hours to audition opposite Gary Oldman led not to a movie role but to a decades-long friendship, underscoring how creative life is often built sideways. The conversation turns to parenting adult children in an unstable economy—worrying about what you can't give them, negotiating money without trust funds, and finding dignity in simply taking turns paying for lunch. Gurwitch revisits the pandemic moment that reshaped her family, recounting how a routine COVID test turned into a lung cancer diagnosis delivered by phone while stranded in a broken-down car with her son, forcing her to manage terror, logistics, and motherhood at the same time. She reflects on anxiety as a finite resource, the necessity of compartmentalizing fear, and her concept of “durable gladness”—small, survivable joys that replace impossible expectations of constant fulfillment—before the episode veers into comic relief with a riff about monetizing the phrase as luxury adult diapers, complete with branding ideas and a mock sponsorship fantasy.
