Day 7 of the Duane “Keefe D” Davis Murder Trial: Tupac's Final Warning and the Shot Caller's World On Day 7 of the high-stakes murder trial of Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the man accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by killing of Tupac Shakur, the jury heard chilling first-hand testimony from one of the rapper's closest friends and a deep dive into the gang hierarchy that prosecutors say put Davis at the top of the chain of command. Malcolm Greenidge, better known as E.D.I. Mean of the Outlawz, took the stand under a court order after initially resisting. A childhood friend, mentor figure, and group member who called Tupac a big brother, Greenidge described riding in the caravan behind Suge Knight's BMW on the night of September 7, 1996, as the group headed toward Club 662.He watched a light-colored four-door Cadillac pull alongside the BMW. Shots erupted from the back seat. He saw an arm and a gun extend from the vehicle — the arm appearing to belong to a Black man. Horrified, he later approached the stopped BMW, only to hear the wounded Tupac warn him: “Get on the ground, they're going to shoot you.” Moments later, a police shotgun was pointed in his face. The day also featured testimony from crime scene analysts who processed the 2023 search of Davis's Henderson home, recovering production budgets, copies of Compton Street Legend, a 1996 Vibe magazine, and a scrapbook filled with contemporary newspaper clippings about Tupac's murder. A firearms technician confirmed that all seven .40-caliber casings recovered from the original crime scene were fired from the same gun, with no matches in the national ballistic database. Former Compton police gang detective Robert Ladd closed out key portions of the day by painting a clear picture of South Side Compton Crips structure. He identified Davis as a high-ranking “shot caller” and major narcotics dealer — the kind of OG who could order younger members to act and expect compliance. Historically, continuous intravenous (IV) insulin infusions were established as the standard of care for pregestational diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2 DM) during labor to prevent acute intrapartum hyperglycemia and minimize the risk of neonatal hypoglycemia. Intravenous insulin offers rapid titration, immediate onset, and a short half-life, allowing precise real-time glycemic control during the physiological stress and fluctuating metabolic demands of labor. Maintaining euglycemia intrapartum is emphasized because elevated maternal blood glucose levels cross the placenta, inducing fetal hyperinsulinemia, which acutely increases the risk of severe post-delivery neonatal hypoglycemia, which can be problematic. Although IV insulin protocols are widely used and are recommended in many practice guidelines, the evidence supporting their superiority over other approaches is limited. Subcutaneous (SC) insulin administration represents a potential alternative strategy to intrapartum glucose management. Continuation of SC insulin, including insulin pump therapy, has been studied most extensively among individuals with type 1 diabetes. However, evidence guiding intrapartum insulin management remains limited for patients with gestational or type 2 diabetes, who represent the majority of pregnancies complicated by diabetes. Institutional protocols frequently default to IV insulin despite limited comparative evidence with SC insulin and the increased workflow burden associated with infusion-based management. Now, a new retrospective study published in SMFM's PREGANCY journal (25 July 2026; Seattle, Washington) is looking to give routine intrapartum SC insulin some validity. What did the data show?
