    Yvanna Cancela planned to join the Peace Corps after college, but decided at the last minute to move to Las Vegas instead. Years of working for a union there taught her how important it is to fight for the rights of citizens and workers. That turned out to be good training when, in 2017, she was appointed to the Nevada Senate.
