Your Stories Don’t Define You, How You Tell Them Will

388 Changing Dynamics   Growth is something that cannot easily be stopped. Whether it be the weeds in a garden, or the inquisitive mind of a child, growth in all is something that should be encouraged and nurtured, even if it's by our own hands, so that we can become the people we know we can be. Someone better than who we were yesterday. In today's episode, Sarah Elkins and Carlos Joaquin discuss the importance of Curiosity, Growth, Unity, and the Dynamics in not just the work place but in the home life, and how incredibly important it is to encourage those around you and to be the leader your peers need you to be.    Highlights Curiosity and how it makes people with power uncomfortable and people in need of strength, powerful. Moving on, even when it's hard, because that's what is best for you.  Standing together, especially when faced with strife, is the strongest thing you can do. Comparison is the enemy of growth and unity. Creating a safe environment to express something and not be dismissed or treated differently, so everyone can be apart of the discussion. Growing, and helping others grow, through finding Your community.   Quotes “We decided we're not going to be a part of this anymore, and we're going to say goodbye, and we did, and it was hard, but I think we found strength in each other, and we were united.”  “Psychological safety is a key factor of any learning and development. And if you can't have that then, there's always this lingering or this resistance or this inability to even share or to connect.”  “You focus on that person and you find out, what do they care about, how can I help them get a little bit of that into their lives? Because it's more than numbers, it's more than metrics, it's caring about this person and this person will deliver those numbers, this person will deliver those metrics.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, What is something that happened in your life, early in your life, that you can now attach to your values? That you can look back, maybe at the time you didn't see it, but you can look back now and see it as a pivotal moment that made you who you are right now. And how can you reframe the story? So that, like Carlos does, you find those silver lining moments, that you understand intuitively and innately, that you can do better. And, as always, thank you for listening.    About Carlos (from his website) I work with small businesses, founders, and teams to improve communication, leadership, and customer experience. Whether it's a one-on-one coaching session, a team workshop, or consulting on systems, I help people move from scattered to strategic — with heart. Check out Carlos's LinkedIn and Instagram! As well as his website!   About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. In this episode of Do The Work | Mindset Mastery, I dive into something we all face but rarely talk about openly—what happens when the darkness hits. When you've been betrayed, when things fall apart, when you feel like you've lost everything and the pain is just too much. It's that quiet moment where negativity creeps in and starts to control your every thought, paralyzing you and making you forget how powerful you actually are. I shared where I've been—flat on my back, both figuratively and literally, unable to get up because the weight of failure, financial struggle, and shame was too heavy. That energy is real. It strips you of your memory, your growth, your accomplishments. It makes you forget that you've already overcome so much. It turns every little thought into fear, every memory into regret. But here's the shift. That pain, that shame, those dark moments—those can be the fuel. I don't try to erase them anymore. I tap into them. Not to wallow, not to relive the suffering, but to remember that if I got through that, I can get through anything. Every one of those painful moments gave me a skill set, a lesson, a mindset that made me who I am. I use that memory now like a weapon. I remember how it felt to be broke, to feel like a failure, to be belittled. But now I say, let me show you what I'm made of. Let me show you that same energy can push me forward. This episode is a reminder that you're not broken. You're battle tested. The power of negative energy is real, but so is your ability to flip it. You've already proven you can overcome. And if you can remember that—if you can tap into that place without drowning in it—you become unstoppable. ### Reflect on This: What is a painful memory you usually try to forget—but could actually use as fuel for your next move? Are you dwelling in your past pain or using it to push yourself forward? How can you remind yourself daily of how far you've already come? ### Quotes to Remember: “That negative energy is so strong that if it could break me, it can also make me.” “You are undefeated. You're still here.” “If I can get through that, I can definitely get through this. Let me show you what I'm made of.”   Follow A.Z. Araujo on Social Media: Instagram: @azaraujo Facebook: A.Z.      May I humbly suggest that the enemy of greatness is unusefulness. What I mean by this is that once you find a purpose and seek more meaning from your work, you'll naturally rise above any obstacles and defeat any difficulties because the finest part of you would take a bullet for your mission. Your Cause doesn't have to be to feed hungry children across the planet or to save the oceans. It could be to release an app that helps parents free up time or to write a screenplay that spreads wonderful values or to advance a startup that helps artists succeed. I don't know what your “Magnificent Taj Mahal” will be yet I do know to at once you discover it (and often it can be found right where you're planted) and then start steadily making it real, you'll be flooded with energy and strength that will not only make you unkillable but one of those rare-air people who remind everyone around you of the best of human possibility. This is what my latest book The Wealth Money Can't Buy is all about. In this episode of Do The Work | Mindset Mastery, I open up about something that we all carry but rarely stop to dissect: guilt. It's sneaky. It creeps in during the quiet moments after long work weeks, during family decisions, and when we feel stretched too thin. This episode wasn't just about a spontaneous trip to Universal Studios with my daughters. It was about understanding how guilt can distort our memories, cloud our judgment, and keep us from truly being present. But more importantly, it was about choosing what to do with that guilt right now. Over the years, I've told myself stories. That I worked too much. That I wasn't present enough. That I didn't have patience. And while I believed those things, my daughters remembered something different. They remembered the volleyball practices. They remembered Disneyland. They remembered me showing them how to edit on their iPads. And it made me realize how powerful our own stories can be and how wrong we are when we let guilt rewrite our legacy. I almost let my own guilt steal an opportunity to create a powerful memory with my daughters. I almost passed on a trip that turned into one of the best experiences we've had together. The reality is, we work hard to earn that flexibility, but if we don't take action in the present, guilt will always convince us we don't deserve it. This lesson isn't just for home it applies to business too. Guilt from not following up. Guilt from not posting. Guilt from not showing up strong for your clients. We sit in that space and call it accountability, but accountability without action is just self-punishment. You say you take responsibility but then what? What are you doing right now to change it? It's time to stop looking back at where we fell short and start doing something right here, right now. One call. One text. One post. One moment of presence. That's where expansion begins. And when you take that action now, it doesn't just shape your future. It transforms your past and your present too. Expansion grows every way, not just forward. The guilt doesn't have to weigh you down if you're willing to move. Ask Yourself What guilt have you been holding onto that's slowing down your growth or happiness? What is one action you can take today to move forward in your business or relationships? How might your story change if you stopped focusing on what you didn't do and started acting on what you can do now? Notable Quotes “We can all feel belittled by what we have. Or we can just think about what we can do right now to get a little closer to that bigger vision.” “Time doesn't necessarily mean quality. You don't have to sabotage one or the other. You can do both.” “Accountability without action is just self-punishment.”   Follow A.Z. Araujo on Social Media: Instagram: @azaraujo Facebook: A.Z. Araujo TikTok: A.Z. Your Stories Don’t Define You, How You Tell Them Will

386 Media Literacy and Division    In the age of the internet it is impossibly easy for us to see something shocking and outrageous, ending up with us emotionally and morally outraged. We want to speak up, to make our voices heard in the sea of noise if only for a moment. However, it is easy for us to make a mistake on who we follow or share posts from, it is very easy to be fooled by a wolf in sheep's clothing, which is why it is vital to stop, take a moment to do some basic research, and make our own informed decision. In today's episode, Sarah Elkin's has a solo show dedicated to her thoughts on media literacy, the division that has been amplified by social media, and how important it is that we not only do our own fact checking, but that we also convey our thoughts and stories with intention in order to accurately portray what we believe.   Highlights Sharing the right stories with intention, that are compelling and true.  What are you doing in your daily life that does more harm than good? How do you engage with the people and world around you? You never really know who is listening to you, whether it is our phones and social media, or the people around us.    Quotes “You don't have to tell people who you are or what matters to you. They come to those conclusions through the stories they hear.” “But if I'm too busy to check the source, maybe I shouldn't have shared it at all. Everything we do has consequences and if we don't consider the ‘what happens next?' question, we damage relationships, our reputations, and miss incredible opportunities. We contribute to the noise of division.”   Dear Listeners it is now your turn, I challenge you, to either stop scrolling, I know it's hard. Or take inventory for a few days as you participate. Are your emotions like a rollercoaster as you scroll, feeling really good when you see something you agree with and getting angry, discouraged, or judgey when you see something you don't? Before you hit that like button ask yourself what your intention is when engaging. Are you sure what you're sharing is true? If you're sharing someone else's story, is this a stranger? Are you trusting their opinion over somebody in a similar situation who might be your neighbor or someone in your community? Ask yourself what exactly you're signaling to people by engaging on the post, are you putting something out there that is insulting to people you care about? I am so discouraged and disgusted by the division and polarization, and if you are too, then stop contributing to it.  And, as always, thank you for listening. They highlight the challenges young men face in finding role models and the impact of social media on perceptions of masculinity. The discussion also touches on the political landscape, examining how different parties address or fail to address the needs of men today. Ultimately, the conversation seeks to understand the future of masculinity and the importance of community and support in navigating modern relationships. In this conversation, the speakers explore the evolving concept of masculinity, emphasizing the importance of social value and societal frameworks in defining what it means to be a man. They discuss the consequences of a lack of guidance for young men, the need for strong male role models, and the balance between strength and responsibility.TakeawaysThe left has largely undermined the idea of masculinity.Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.Young men often feel pressured to hold onto their youth.Human beings need something to aim for to motivate themselves.Social media influences perceptions of masculinity. There is a lack of viable role models for young men today. The Republican Party offers a traditional view of masculinity.Cultural narratives shape young men's aspirations. The absence of positive male role models creates a vacuum.Navigating modern relationships requires renegotiating traditional roles. There's an appetite for a new model of masculinity.Men must create social value to be considered valuable.Identities are socially constructed and validated.A lack of guidance can lead to self-destructive behavior in men.Men need frameworks to channel their natural capacities.Strength in men should not be feared but guided. The dynamics of masculinity change with societal safety.Men must find purpose in service to their communities.Young men should seek to solve problems in their environment.Community and individual responsibility are intertwined.Connect with Dr Dante BryantWebsite: dbryan30Instagram: a_southernmanFree eBook Here: Mastering Self-Development: Strategies of the New Masculine: https://rebrand.ly/m2ebook⚔️JOIN THE NOBLE KNIGHTS MASTERMIND⚔️https://themodernmanpodcast.com/thenobleknights
