In this episode, I discuss Critical Race Theory and the ways in which race and racism have shaped the experience of ALL Americans. I also discuss why Critical Race Theory and honest, critical conversations around race and racism are vital to dismantling racism, in all its forms. Using the example on the conversation around ESPN Journalists, Rachel Nichols & Maria Taylor, i also briefly touch on the cost of advocacy and allyship in relation to racial equity and equality.
What continues to be the greatest threat to racial equality and equity in this country is the denial, expulsion and outright refusal of acknowledgment that this country has been and continues to be inherently racist and moreover, all of the fruits of this nation, via its systems, legislations, policies and structures are poisoned by the venom of its racist origins.
The performative nature of our country, especially around race, leads us to celebrate Juneteenth and I am glad that we seem to be retaking ownership and pride in this day, which is incomprehensibly significant to Black folks in America. But that celebration cannot and must not be void of the reason behind its existence… oppression and delay.
