April 27, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 128 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers and their post-draft signings of DL Dean Lowry and WR Brandon Johnson. We go over the fits of both players returning to the Steelers and their expected contracts. Former Steelers HC Mike Tomlin is now officially a member of the NBC Sports team and his Sunday night interview with Maria Taylor included his reasons for stepping down this past offseason and whether he thinks QB Aaron Rodgers will re-sign with Pittsburgh. Alex and I make sure to recap what all Tomlin said to Taylor during that Sunday interview. In the middle of this show, Alex and I are joined by Brad Denny, who covers Arizona State for 3TV and CBS 5 in Tempe, AZ. Brad gives us a rundown on two Arizona State products that are now members of the Steelers, first-round OT Max Iheanachor and undrafted free agent TE Chamon Metayer. Brad is also a long-term fan of the Steelers, so because of that, we get his overarching thoughts on the team's 2026 draft class. He goes over his likes and dislikes when it comes to the team's 10 selections in 2026. If you're not already doing so, please follow Brad on Twitter/X at BDenny29. After spending 30 minutes with Brad, Alex and I give more of our overarching thoughts on the Steelers 2026 draft class. We go over our favorite selection made by the Steelers this year and which players are most likely to contribute greatly as rookies. We also attempt to summarize the Steelers 2026 draft class by using one adjective. This 111-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we end this show by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who finally broke his months-long silence after resigning from the team in January. Tomlin made his first appearance on NBC, where he will be an analyst on Football Night in America this fall, and spoke with co-host Maria Taylor about why he made the decisions to step down from the Steelers and join television, how he watched the 2026 NFL Draft, and what he thinks is going to happen with Aaron Rodgers and the team's quarterback situation. The 2025 football season was a setback for Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Jason explains that the “Louis experience” is failing and many are bailing on Deion. The loss of defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is the most recent setback. Steve Kim returns to discuss Deion losing key players and coaches; NBC apparently diminishing Tony Dungy's role on "Sunday Night Football"; and Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken on Deshaun Watson. Jay Skapinac joins Jason and Steve to discuss the mismatch between Luka Doncic and LeBron James, as well as the NBA MVP vote on the verge of losing two more front-runners because of the league's minimal game rule. Jason defines Super Bowl 60 as the worst in NFL history. A boring, one-sided game was made worse by Bud Bunny and overall lack of enthusiasm, and Maria Taylor's hosting proved every bit as atrocious as Drake Maye's play. The most intriguing aspect of the Super Bowl broadcast was the emasculation of Tony Dungy by Rodney Harrison, after Dungy failed to comment on the omission of Bill Belichick from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Steve Kim joins the show to discuss whether the Super Bowl has peaked; Drake Maye being exposed; and Randy Moss' claim that players and coaches should be the ones casting Hall of Fame ballots. Jason and Steve wind up by talking about Deion Sanders continuing to demand that the media play the role of Luca Brasi defending his son Shedeur and Shannon Sharpe starting the process of returning to Bristol, teaming up with Stephen A. Jason delves into the fact that 10 NFL teams hired new head coaches, sans a black coach hiring. He states that black men see themselves as victims, not leaders. That victim mentality explains why black coaches fail and were bypassed during this NFL head coaching cycle. Mike Tomlin has been criticized for failing to produce a coaching tree, having leaned on veteran assistants during his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jason explains Tomlin was viewed as a players' coach, not for his strategy. How many black coaches are known for their strategy or brand? Brian Flores is the highest paid defensive coordinator in the league, however he is suing the NFL following his dismissal as the Miami Dolphins head coach compromising his candidacy. Bucky Brooks joins Jason to discuss the head coaching hires and the firing of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as Minnesota Vikings general manager. Did taking paternity leave really factor into his dismissal? Steve Kim comes aboard for the final lap … discussing Steve Kerr apologizing for spewing misinformation about ICE, Deion Sanders spewing misinformation that coaches and players voted Shedeur Sanders into the Pro Bowl, and Maria Taylor's Peacock special "Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback" debuting this week. What makes a happy city? That is, what makes a city livable and responsive to humans' physical, emotional and cultural needs? Over the last century, city planners have turned to the maintenance of green spaces within urban jungles to address these issues. In this final event for Pitt REEES' Eurasian Environments series, the Eurasian Knot paired Maria Taylor and Roberta Mendonca De Carvalho to discuss green cities from two different contexts. Taylor researches mid-20th century efforts to green Soviet cities in response to rapid urbanization. De Carvalho studies the relationship between urbanization and environment in the Brazilian Amazon. How did city planners in the USSR and Brazil use green spaces to make cities more livable? What obstacles did they encounter? And how do these disparate contexts help us understand the global problem that pits people, city, and ecology against each other? Maria Taylor and Roberta Mendonca De Carvalho give us a trough of mental cud to crew on.Guests:Maria C. Taylor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University. A listen back to a show from 2017 on the theme of Quiet. My guests in that two-part conversation were Orenda Fink, a musician, writer, and Jungian Depth Coach, and the Benedictine monk, Brother James Dowd. In the second part of the show we'll hear from Orenda Fink on her music and career, dream analysis, and how a health condition requiring the quiet of complete voice rest impacted her sense of self. First, we'll hear from Brother James Dowd on his path from New York theater to Nebraska monastery, contemplative life, and embracing silence.Brother James Dowd of the Order of the Holy Cross is the founding Prior of the Incarnation Monastery and the Community of The Benedictine Way, which was founded in 2018 in north Omaha. It is the first Benedictine monastery in the history of the Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska. At the time of our 2017 conversation, Brother James had recently joined the staff of the Diocese for a two-year position as “Monk in Residence.” His ministry focused on enriching the community's prayer and spiritual life, and discovering and building better ways to befriend the poor in our communities. Prior to entering the monastery, Brother James lived in his home town of New York City, where for 20 years he worked as a director of more than 100 theater productions and numerous live events for television.Orenda Fink is a well known musician, performer, and songwriter. She has been writing, recording, and touring for critically acclaimed records since 1997. Fink got her start in Birmingham, Alabama, with the pop rock group Little Red Rocket. In 2000, she formed the ethereal folk duo Azure Ray with longtime friend Maria Taylor. Their music has regularly featured in film and television programs and Fink has collaborated widely on numerous other music projects. Currently residing in California's Mojave desert, Fink is a certified Jungian Depth Coach with a specialization in shadow work and dream interpretation. Later this year I'll be in conversation with Fink about her new memoir, “The Witch's Daughter: My Mother, Her Magic, and the Madness that Bound Us” which will be available in August. At the time of our 2017 show on the theme of Quiet, Fink reflected back on her musical origins, self-reflection brought about by emergency surgery to correct a misdiagnosed heart defect, and the implications for her sense of self in the world when she was required to take an extensive period of complete voice rest.
Bob Hillman had a real thing going on in the early 2000's. He had made waves in New York City rubbing shoulders with some of the finest songwriters of the era at places like the open mic, Fast Folk and The Living Room, the singer-songwriter was creatively fulfilled, but not gaining the momentum in order to experience strategic growth in folk music. After opening for a long list of dates for Suzanne Vega, Hillman decided it was time to step away and get back to business.... school that is. He got his MBA in Marketing and went on to hold a decent paying job for the next decade and a half, raising his family in the Bay Area. After a layoff, Bob thought it was time to dig in again and started writing, recording and performing. Since 2016, he's released a couple of albums and an EP (Extended Play) or two. The most recent is the mostly acoustic Downtown in the Rain. In our conversation, we talk about what it's like to reignite his creative entrepreneurial musical spirit, how he used that energy in his corporate jobs and also hoping to one day meet his singing partner on the EP, Maria Taylor.
