Oscar joins Raquel on Drive-Thru Cinema for a chat coming of age films and a review of Jonah Hill’s directorial debut mid90s. mid90s follows 13-year-old Stevie who lives in Los Angeles with his aggressive older brother Ian and single mother Dabney. One day, Stevie bikes past a Skate-shop, where he sees a group of older teenagers. Back at home, he trades with his brother for a skateboard, which he then takes to the skate-shop the following day, when he befriends Ruben, who introduces him to the rest of the group: Ray, a talented skateboarder, Fuckshit, Ray’s best friend and the only driver in the group, and Fourth Grade, who films everything they do. Despite not being very good at skating, Stevie joins the group and begins to imitate anti-social attitudes.
