It's fair to say that the nation's public lands, those managed by the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and other federal land-management agencies are at risk under the Trump administration. There's no hyperbole in that statement if you pay attention to what the administration already has done in terms of downsizing those agencies' workforces, and when you listen to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum say he wants to open more public lands to energy development and mining. Federal lands in the United States are owned by all Americans, but at various times there have been efforts to wrench those lands away from the government to give to the states or sell off. Walt Dabney spent his professional career protecting public lands during his decades-long stint with the National Park Service and then as director of the Texas State Parks. Now he is working to educate Americans on their vested interest in those lands and what could be lost if Congress or the White House tries to get rid of them.

Clay's interview with Walt Dabney, who worked for over 30 years in the National Park System, including serving as America's Chief Ranger for five and a half years in Washington, D.C. Mr. Dabney is lecturing around the country about the threat to public lands from those who would return them to the states or privatize them altogether. Mr. Dabney refutes three myths about public lands: first, that the U.S. Government has no right to own property; second, that the U.S. Government retains public domain for nefarious reasons; and third, that individual states were promised at the time of their statehood that public land would be deeded over to them. All demonstrably untrue, says Walt Dabney. Although he's worried about current moves to reduce the size of National Monuments and allow greater resource extraction on public lands, Mr. Dabney believes the public will rally to protect and preserve one of the best things about America: our National Parks, National Monuments, game preserves, wildlife refuges, and National Forests. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday at Nelson Brogdon Blvd. and Peachtree Industrial Blvd. The maneuver was executed to prevent a potential head-on collision. Galvez, 27, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side, and fleeing and attempting to elude police. The incident prompted a Code Red lockdown, with students later reunited with families at a nearby church. Cobb Board of Education members emphasized the need for mental health focus and parental engagement. Board member Leroy Tre Hutchins advocated for weapons detection in schools, a proposal not yet supported by the board. The district spends about $35 million annually on safety, with additional state funding anticipated. The district's safety measures include partnerships with security firms and a crisis communications center. STORY 2: Stacey Abrams-founded group fined for 2018 campaign violations The New Georgia Project, a nonprofit founded by Stacey Abrams, agreed to pay a record $300,000 fine to the Georgia Ethics Commission for not disclosing $4.2 million in contributions and $3.2 million in spending during the 2018 election cycle. These activities supported Abrams' gubernatorial campaign and included voter canvassing and campaign literature. The fine, the largest ever by the commission, underscores the violation of Georgia's campaign finance laws. Additionally, the organization admitted to not reporting nearly $650,000 in donations and $175,000 in expenditures for a 2019 Gwinnett County transit referendum. STORY 3: 'What We're Doing is Better': Cobb Wants Out of Property Tax Cap Cobb County plans to opt out of a new statewide floating homestead exemption, arguing its current exemption offers greater benefits. Commissioners believe the county's existing exemption, which freezes home values, is more advantageous than the state's cap on taxable value increases. Public hearings will be held before a final decision on February 25. Opting out won't affect the county's general fund, but if they opt in, it could impact the fire fund, potentially leading to a millage rate increase. Hunter, a mother of MCS students and literacy advocate, aims to enhance academic excellence and safety. She also holds roles in the Georgia Press Association and local boards. STORY 5: Representing America: Diamond D Cowgirls to take part in Presidential Inaugural Parade On January 20, the Diamond D Cowgirls, a precision drill team led by Elizabeth Dabney, will participate in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. Known for their synchronized horseback routines, the team will ride in patriotic costumes with American flags. The group, consisting of riders aged 18 to 45 from around Georgia, practices weekly and provides their own horses. The opportunity arose after Dabney applied for the parade, and the team was accepted just before Christmas. They will travel with 18 horses and have received community support for expenses. The Cowgirls will represent the Merchant Marines in the parade. On a sweltering day in August 1925, Mary Vickery vanished from Coxton, Kentucky. Several months later, her remains were found in an abandoned mine located just outside the town. A local taxi driver was apprehended, tried, and sentenced to life in prison for the teenager's murder. In the spring of 1927, a young woman appeared in Harlan County with information that could clear his name. In October 1925, a young girl's body was discovered at the bottom of a mineshaft near Coxton, Kentucky. Even though the remains were practically unrecognizable, the authorities identified her as 14-year-old Mary Vickery, who had gone missing two months earlier. In March of 1926, Condy Dabney, a married father of two and former miner, was accused of her murder and quickly  indicted. Seems like an open and shut case right? Except, Mary Vickery was in fact, very much alive. Young Davey Osborne (Henry Thomas) has a wild imagination, and he has an imaginary friend, Jack Flack (Dabney Coleman), who is also the image of his father, Hal (also Dabney). While playing a spy game around town, Davey witnesses a murder and is handed a top-secret cartridge. He and his friend Kim (Christina Nigra) then get caught up in a bonkers situation that only their spy games have prepared them for. Maybe! Their computer friend Morris (William Forsythe) confirms their video game contains government secrets. Now, a bunch of over-eager, wall-breaking goons are after them! Luckily, sweet Eunice (Jeanette Nolan) and George (John McIntire) are able to assist Davey in his mission. Something might not be right though. Trust your instincts! RTS sneaks within the shadows and perfects the “Crossfire Gambit.” La-Mar, Collin and Jeremy learn when to roll the dice and when to get off the boat. There will be a lot of running. Cloaking? Yes!
