Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty to murdering seven women and admitted to killing an eighth. That should have been the end of the legal battle. It wasn't. The son of Valerie Mack — one of the victims Heuermann admitted to killing — has filed a sweeping civil lawsuit that goes after the people who were closest to the convicted killer: his ex-wife Asa Ellerup and their daughter Victoria Heuermann. The allegations in this complaint are staggering in their scope. Wrongful death. Aiding and abetting. Civil conspiracy. Unjust enrichment. Fraud. The lawsuit accuses both women of knowing about the murders or deliberately choosing not to know — what the legal system calls willful blindness. It alleges they had access to a secured room with a large metal door in the basement of the Massapequa Park home and that they profited from the crimes through over a million dollars in media payments for a Peacock documentary. But the defense has significant ground to stand on. Prosecutors have said the family was out of town during the killings. Victoria was approximately three years old when Valerie Mack was killed in 2000 — yet the complaint names her as a defendant in concealing that murder. Law enforcement searched the Heuermann home, recovered evidence, and never charged either woman. And the plaintiff's attorney has a documented history of making extreme public accusations against this family that have not resulted in criminal action.I break down every angle of this case — the emotional weight behind the filing, the legal reality the plaintiff has to overcome, and the moral complexity that no verdict can resolve. This is a lawsuit where everybody involved might be a victim of Rex Heuermann in one way or another.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Recent developments raise urgent concerns about press freedom and democracy in Canada! The firing of CityNews Reporter Tina Yazdani, allegedly tied to her incisive reporting on Doug Ford's Ontario government and now Danielle Smith's Alberta government, "taking aim" at a Globe and Mail reporter, signals trouble for our democracy. This echoes the alarming actions of authoritarian leaders worldwide, like Hungary's Viktor Orbán, who targeted media outlets to consolidate power. Moreover, the alarming remarks from Alberta separatists, who believe Premier Smith will cater to their demands, along with Ford's attempts to undermine elected mayors and councils by appointing allies as Regional Chairs, should raise red flags for all Canadians. Are we witnessing the dawn of a Trump-like regime taking root in Alberta and Ontario? We cannot stand idly by while our democratic values are threatened. At one point in time, Roger Corman released the film with all these titles but kept the story the same: Oliver Reed (THE BROOD) goes to town to stop a madman (Paul Koslo, THE ANNIHILATORS) who is intent on killing a rich land owner (Stuart Whitman from New World's CRAZY MAMA) unless he coughs up millions of dollars! But will Reed's cool jacket help him catch this crossbow-wielding seeker of revenge? Aiding in the hunt is a local reporter played by Deborah Raffin (GOD TOLD ME TO), and a local tracker aptly named Tracker, played by James Mitchum of the MItchum family (and New World's BLACKOUT). We discuss the film's history, the different versions available, and how Corman added and subtracted from the film when he released the film in 1977. In this Jewish Inspiration Podcast episode (Day 127), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe begins the Gate of Flattery (Sha'ar HaChanufa) from Orchos Tzaddikim, warning that flattery is a grave sin—often more dangerous than outright falsehood—because it distorts truth for personal gain. The chapter divides flattery into nine categories, with the rabbi focusing on the first and its severe consequences.Key teachings:First category of flattery — Praising or speaking smoothly to a known rasha (wicked person), ramai (deceiver), or thief—saying “you did nothing wrong” or “you're fine” when they are guilty.Multiple transgressions —Failure to rebuke (lo tochiah) when obligated—strengthens evildoers' hands. Not being zealous for truth—punishment for abandoning emes. Aiding sin—by reassuring them, prevents teshuva (repentance).Desecration of God's Name (chillul Hashem) if public—makes sin appear acceptable.Flattery = smooth tongue, not praise — It's saying one thing while thinking another (echad b'peh v'echad b'lev)—justifying evil, currying favor, or avoiding confrontation.Severe punishment — Flatterers cannot dwell in God's presence (one of four groups barred: liars, slanderers, flatterers, etc.). Talmud (Sotah) lists them among those excluded from Shechinah.Biblical & Talmudic sources — “Do not tremble before any man” (Deuteronomy); Agrippa story—flattering him as “our brother” led to destruction; “you shall not put a foreigner over you” caused tears and divine displeasure.Practical application — Never justify wickedness—even privately. Rebuke gently when possible; stay silent if they won't listen. Never praise evil to gain benefit. Truth must remain intact. The rabbi stresses: flattery is “kissing up” to wrongdoers—distorts reality, blocks teshuva, and desecrates God's Name. Live with uncompromising truth—even when uncomfortable._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 5, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on February 16, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at aw@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. Reporter: Gustavo Solis, KPBS Under state law, California residents can demand that data brokers stop selling their personal information. But there hasn't been a way to submit these requests en masse – so consumers would have to complete each opt-out form individually. MCNAMARA'S REDEMPTION AT THE WORLD BANK Colleague William Taubman. After leaving the Defense Department, McNamara sought redemption as President of the World Bank, shifting its focus to aiding the "poorest of the poor" and combating diseases like river blindness. He viewed this humanitarian work as an attempt to explain the lives lost in Vietnam, later admitting that the bombing campaigns he oversaw failed to break enemy morale just as they had in World War II. While he claimed ignorance regarding the toxicity of Agent Orange and struggled with family estrangement due to the war, he eventually attempted to reconcile his legacy and his relationship with his son. IMIrJ has become an independent nonprofit, drawing “faith communities and people of conscience” into the effort to protect the civil rights and well-being of immigrant families. Members and volunteers provide accompaniment for immigrants to appointments with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, financial support and other resources to immigrants. In Episode 221 of the Transition Drill Podcast, Chris Seminatore's story is a lesson in resilience, reinvention, and relentless curiosity. From a small-town Ohio upbringing to serving in U.S. Navy intelligence during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, to building a life as an entrepreneur and marketing innovator in Los Angeles and now Mexico.Chris shares how the discipline and precision he learned in the Navy became the foundation for everything that came after. His service taught him to see patterns where others saw chaos, a skill that translated directly into business and technology. After leaving the military, he faced the familiar uncertainty of transition, struggling to find meaning in college classrooms that felt disconnected from real life. Restless but determined, he chased purpose through writing, film, finance, and startups. Each venture brought lessons in leadership, human behavior, and the value of staying adaptable. What makes Chris's journey so compelling isn't just the career changes, it's the mindset that ties them together. Whether navigating Wall Street crashes, building early web-based tech, or recovering from business setbacks, he never stopped moving forward. His latest chapter in marketing and advertising uses geo-fencing technology to help businesses reach audiences with precision and authenticity, proving that modern innovation still relies on timeless principles—strategy, integrity, and human connection. For veterans and first responders looking to navigate their own transitions, Chris's story offers something powerful: proof that the skills forged in service can thrive in any environment. The same situational awareness, mission focus, and accountability that define a uniformed career can drive success in business, marketing, and beyond. This episode isn't just about marketing or technology. It's about mindset. It's about what happens when you refuse to be defined by your past and instead use it as fuel to build something new. Whether you're planning your transition, leading a business, or simply searching for purpose, Chris Seminatore's journey will remind you that your mission isn't over; it's just changing coordinates. The best podcast for military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders preparing for veteran transition and life after service.
