Want zo rollen we. This week Jamal and Chris are back together as Chris returns to the show, and there is plenty to catch up on! The guys discuss the end of the standalone Wayfarer social media presence and what combining Wayfarer and general player support under Scopely Explore could mean for communication with the community. Will Wayfarer benefit from a larger audience, or will important updates get lost among game support issues? And does this move make the Wayfarer Community Forum more important than ever? Then, inspired by a listener question, Jamal and Chris break down how to write a successful Wayfarer appeal. From addressing the actual rejection reason and bringing new evidence to avoiding emotional arguments and making reviewers do the work for you, they share practical advice for giving your appeal its best chance of success. Plus, One's Gotta Go forces them to choose between Google Street View, official website links, supporting photos, and satellite view. Which essential Wayfarer tool could they live without forever? Stick around for two very different Wayspots of the Week, including a lesson in how to get a Wayspot approved inside one of the biggest chain restaurants in the world, plus a beautiful mural celebrating a Pennsylvania town's coal-mining roots. Then Grandpa TP sends us straight to detention with a Coal of the Week that proves sometimes a great joke still makes for a terrible Wayspot. In this episode: Chris returns to the show Wayfarer and player support merge under Scopely Explore Does Wayfarer still need its own social media identity? Why the Wayfarer Forum may now be the real home for official communication How to build a stronger Wayfarer appeal Why you should address the rejection reason first Bringing evidence instead of emotion One's Gotta Go: Wayfarer Tools Edition How to nominate something eligible inside a chain restaurant A mural celebrating local coal-mining history A detention center nomination that belongs in the Coal pile Stick around for: Dad jokes, two Wayspots of the Week, Coal of the Week, and the return of the Jamal-and-Chris banter we've been missing! Pokémon Go removed the paywall from its biggest event of the year and made more money than any paid version in half a decade. That's the monetization masterclass of the week — and it's just one of five stories that matter.Matej Lančarič flies solo for the news segment, and it's a heavy week. Pokémon Go hit its 10th anniversary with over $9B in lifetime revenue, then ran GoFest 2026 as its first-ever free, no-ticket event — triggering a $15.1M single day, the game's highest in five years, and a 17-position leap to #2 in monthly revenue. Love and Deepspace is unfolding into the most instructive disaster of the year, with a cancelled love interest, a 230,000-signature petition, funeral flowers and cow dung sent to the studio, and a pulled Bilibili World appearance. Microsoft cut 4,800 jobs with Xbox facing roughly 3,200 over the next year — about 20% of the division — with King in the blast radius and a memo admitting the business "is not healthy" at ~3% margin. AppLovin opened Axon to global self-serve and the stock ripped from the mid-$440s to $564 in two weeks. And Meta shipped Muse image plus new AI-ad labeling that puts a visible tag right next to "Sponsored" if your creative features a photorealistic AI person.Five stories, one theme: the old assumptions about paywalls, scale, and trust are all breaking at once.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⏱️ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Cold open 00:30 Pokémon Go's free GoFest monetization masterclass02:30 The Love and Deepspace catastrophe05:00 Xbox cuts 3,200 — King in the blast radius07:00 AppLovin opens Axon to self-serve08:30 Meta's Muse image and the new AI ad labels10:00 Quick hits — UK job losses, Netmarble takes 40% of WeMade━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In today's Daily Fix:Grand Theft Auto 6 went up for preorder a few weeks ago, and it's already sold $260 million worth of early purchases. According to analysts at Newzoo, the game is on track to hit between $3 and $5 billion dollars in the first week. Yes, that's BILLIONS of dollars in sales in Week 1. By comparison, GTA 5 made $1.15 billion in its first week at a lower price point than GTA 6 will be launched at. In other news, a player in AC Black Flag Resynced accidentally found the treasure in an upcoming in-game event, causing Ubisoft to cancel the event, while praising that player's treasure-hunting skills. And finally, an in-person Pokémon Go event in New York saw attendees sell their rare Mewtwos for thousands of dollars on eBay, much to the disgust of many fans.

Pokémon Champions launched on mobile doing roughly $300-400K/day. Two days later it was collapsing. It's now around $80K/day and falling — a textbook shark fin from the biggest IP on the planet. We cover the wins on this podcast, but we also cover the failures, and this one is genuinely fascinating. We break down what went wrong with Pokémon Champions. The game is essentially Pokémon Stadium (the N64 classic) rebuilt for mobile — a pure battler with no exploration, no gyms, no story, no breeding, no catching Pokémon in the wild. The gacha is neutered into a "pick one of ten" system with no randomness at all. And the killer: Pokémon Home import lets players bring their existing collections straight in from Pokémon Go and other titles, so many players arrived on launch day with everything already unlocked — what Jakub calls "Web3 interoperability in play," and a total economy destroyer. Monetization is cosmetics, a battle pass, and ranch refresh tickets. That's it. The crew also contrasts it with the Pokémon apps that genuinely print money (TCG Pocket at ~$15M/month, Pokémon Sleep at ~$150K/day and ~$150M in three years, Pokémon Go spiking on the 30th anniversary), and picks apart the UA: ~300 creatives that are really about 7 concepts, almost all 15-21 seconds, cut from a year-old trailer.⏱️ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Why we're covering a failure02:40 It's Pokémon Stadium, rebuilt for mobile07:05 The neutered gacha — pick one of ten11:26 The shallow monetization: cosmetics and a battle pass12:30 Pokémon Home import — the economy killer14:35 The numbers — shark fin, Japan-driven, 16% US17:06 The Pokémon apps that actually print money19:59 The creatives — 300 videos, 7 concepts, all too shortThis episode is brought to you by Kinoa — the AI operating system for mobile game operations: flows, live segments, in-app messages, push notifications, and A/B testing in one place, run by the operators who own the numbers. Welcome back to another episode of Private Conversations! This week we finally pulled our biggest Pokémon hit yet on the channel—a Mega Attack Gengar—and debated whether Air Force 1s are officially taking over sneaker culture again. In this episode we discuss: • The return of the Miro Jordan 7 and why pairs are already selling under retail. • Our visit to Redwood SF, where we found vintage Nike SB grails and a massive Supreme Box Logo sticker. • Whether you can actually weigh Ascended Heroes Pokémon packs to find God Packs. • Larry's homemade copper Tesla coil garden experiment. • How to tell if a watermelon is actually ripe (including the infamous "watermelon butthole" test). • Trying viral Ruffles with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. • Plus tons of sneaker news, collectibles, food, and random conversations. This week Andrew Sacher (editor at BrooklynVegan and host of their BV Weekly podcast) peeked into the TTYG hole and extolled the virtues of The Menzingers' On the Impossible Past. We also got a sneak peek at Andrew's upcoming book Emo Revival: Community, DIY, and Rebirth in Post-Hardcore and Emo (spoilers: Foxing mentioned). Also up for emo-scussion (that's discussion by Carly Rae Jepsen): A furtive review of what nostalgia feels like per Carl Jung, the world's worst Pokémon analogy is deployed and every single emo-adjacent band is named along with the year of their albums and a horoscope of their fates. Bands referenced in this episode include: Paramore, Foxing (a lot) Modern Baseball, Algernon Cadwallader, Hop Along, Joyce Manor, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, and basically every other emo band 2008-2018. Also Jawbreaker. You can find BV weekly here or wherever else podcasts are found. You can also preorder Emo Revival here on Amazon or your local bookstore. I would've done the hotter and more ethical thing by linking back to the publisher at Clash Books, but their copies are SOLD OUT so you know its gonna be a hit. 10/10 You're Great is presented by The Alternative. How’s everyone holding up? You know, with uhhh, all the recent news pouring in from Sony regarding their upcoming departure from physical media and Microsoft’s uhhh, well, departure from reality after slaughtering over 1,600 jobs, with more to cut on the way, in the same week they shared the goal to service over a billion players… Shit sucks, yeah, but there’s still hope to take stock in, like the steadily growing unionization across various game development and media jobs in the industry, and the rapid progression that indie games are making across the video game marketplace, large and small—there really are things to still take joy in! Aside from that, George, Ed, and new friend and guest on this week’s episode, Jake of the Press B to Cancel Podcast, also share their own coping mechanisms to the current state of games, like the never-ending journey to tackle their giant libraries of video games, and the thousands of more retro games they have yet to play thanks to the new translation and emulation efforts being fostered by the gaming enthusiast community at large! So, aside from the news, the panel for this episode of Press Pause Radio have also played an ass-load of games that they want to talk about, like Star Fox (2026), Star Fox 64, Magic: The Gathering-Foundations, 007 First Light, Forza Horizons 6, The Adventure of Little Ralph, Pokémon GO Fest 2026, Mina the Hollower, Mega Man 2, Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle, and much more! So gird your bits and grab your favorite guilty pleasure as Press Pause Radio leads you on a 2-hour-ish journey built with some hope, cope, and a little (or a lot) of edibles to champion you on this hot summer day!

Chris is still away this week, so Agent X returns to the co-host chair alongside Jamal for another packed episode of Wayspotters. This week's conversation covers some of the biggest recent developments in Wayfarer, including the shift from Niantic Games to Scopely Explore, reports that Niantic Spatial has moved from resolving photo additions to processing nomination approvals, and signs that Pikmin Bloom may have received a map update. Then Agent X takes the lead on Topic #1: Location, Location, Location, breaking down how even a great nomination can fail if the pin placement is wrong. Using real examples like pathway markers, neighborhood signs, and Little Free Libraries, he and Jamal talk through how sidewalks, fences, verges, and other boundaries can be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection—especially when private residential property is involved. In Topic #2, they tackle the question of whether suspicious nominations are actually abuse or just misunderstandings from newer Wayfarers who don't fully understand how location placement works. It's a thoughtful discussion about where to draw the line between education and enforcement, and how reviewers can approach questionable nominations without assuming the worst every time. Wayfarer News: Scopely Explore officially arrives, Niantic Spatial appears to be approving nominations, and Pikmin Bloom may have had a map sync Topic #1 – Location, Location, Location: why bad pin placement can ruin an otherwise great nomination Topic #2 – Abuse or Misunderstanding?: when a misplaced pin is just a mistake, and when it might be something more Tales from Idaho: Agent X debuts a new segment with the story of Soda Springs' famous man-made captive geyser Wayspot of the Week #1: a creative bug hotel that blends art, conservation, and local identity Wayspot of the Week #2: a clubhouse nomination that nails the social gathering criteria Coal of the Week: a Little Caesars submission that is a perfect reminder that sometimes you really do need to get out of your car Show Credits Hosts: Jamal Harvey & Chris Bell Writer: Scott Robinson Producer: Jamal Harvey Executive Producer: Kate Konz Show Historian: Matty G Recorded: 09 July 2026 Published: 12 July 2026 Season 5, Episode 26 Contact Us wayspotters@pokemonprofessor.com Voicemail / SMS: 704-426-3710 Support the Show Patreon: patreon.com/PokemonProfessor Website: wayspotters.com Follow! Artist Gyula Németh joins Jace to discuss his work on the VeeFriends Topps Chrome trading-card set. Gyula explains how his years creating artwork for Panini's Kaboom inserts led to his involvement with VeeFriends, how Gary Vee's original character sketches are reinterpreted by different artists, and why preserving each character's established personality can make the process more challenging than illustrating a real athlete. Gyula also reveals which monsters became his favorite characters to draw, discusses the revisions behind some of the finished cards, and reacts to seeing rare collectibles featuring his artwork listed for extraordinary prices. To the American birder, spotting the Tamaulipas Crow is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime event. The crow's range is mostly in Mexico and extends ever so slightly into Texas, specifically in and around a dump called the Brownsville Landfill. Spotting the Tamaulipas — north of the border — means being able to check it off your American Bird Association Checklist. So just how far will die-hard birders go to see this bird? In this episode producer (and first-time birder) Michaela Elias sets out to the southern border with a group of experienced birder friends to find out. Together with her "wingmen" Michaela braves the Texas heat, crawls through brush and over slippery rocks, and risks getting attacked by dogs — to find out whether collecting bird sightings as if they're Pokémon is a meaningful way to engage with the natural world.
