Nothing but good vibes here... The world's favourite charity sponsorship platform (one day) puts on a Jolly Good Show every week or so - packed full of good news, good causes and good people doing good things. Good. You get it. Subscribe wherever you get yours.
For the vast majority of people, it takes a lot to raise money for a good cause. 4-6 weeks of sharing your fundraising page, cracking on with the challenge you've set yourself, whether that be running a virtual marathon, getting your steps in or planning a cook-along on Zoom. For Jordan Wylie, it's whole different ball game. He's run marathons in war-torn countries, rowed across the most dangerous stretch of water on Earth, climbed a mountain with no shoes on and paddle-boarded more than half-way around the UK during the pandemic. What can we learn from Jordan's story about what it takes to raise money for good causes? Subscribe now, if you haven't already!
In this penultimate episode of our Direct from Their Mouths series, we hear direct from Calum Coker (Royal British Legion Industries) and Dan Quille (Choose a Challenge). We talk about the future of challenge events, making the most of your time on furlough and the importance of finding the right mentors.
In this second episode in our Direct from Their Mouths series, we hear direct from Steve Oatley (ABF, The Soldiers Charity), Tom Coussens (London Marathon Events) and Izzy White (The Felix Project). We talk all things from the 'worst day in the history of charity events' through to harnessing the data from virtual events and how one charity has done over 7x their previous years income.
We're kicking off Season 3 with some special feature-length episodes. In our 'Direct from Their Mouths' series, we're interviewing 25 fundraising professionals to hear direct from the coalface how they are dealing with the world we live in. In this episode, we hear from Andy King (Remarkable Partnerships), Vikki Furse (Humanity and Inclusion) and Jack Butterfield (East African Playgrounds) on how COVID-19 has impacted them.
We don't have a full length episode for you this week. We've decided to take a break and enjoy the sunshine after the landmark tenth episode last week. What we do have it this little teaser of how our special guest episode is shaping up. We've all read the reports, the white papers and the data published in the last few weeks which do a great job at reflecting the monumental impact that COVID-19 has had on the sector. But, here at GivePenny, we thought we'd do something a little bit different and hear the reports from the coal face. So instead of numbers, stats and figures we've interviewed 20 individuals from in and around the sector and asked what the human impact of COVID-19 has been on them. Although these clips are a mix of negative and positive stories (which isn't why we started the Jolly Good Show), what I found in almost all cases is that everyone has managed to find a positive from 2020 and we all excited to share the full episode with you. It really goes back to our core mission on this podcast of sharing the good news of good people, even when it's in tough situations.
Another week goes by and that means it's time for another edition of the Jolly Good Show. It's our tenth show so here we are in person! Head over to our Youtube channel to catch us in 3D. This week, Lee, Emma and Simon talk about turning 10, the future of corporate partnerships, building a greener Manchester, Test Match Special and what on earth is a Megaraid? We apologise now for the vast amount of time we spent discussing visual cues.
In this week’s episode of GivePenny’s Jolly Good Show, Lee, Emma and Simon bring in nice things they’ve noticed, before getting stuck into the idea of ‘virtual event fatigue’. Name drops for Fairshare, WaterAid, The Red Cross and Teenage Cancer Trust happened and then we broke the idea of regular giving for everyone else’s benefit. Subscribe wherever you get yours!
The whole gang are back together and we talk about some brand new virtual events, the Facebook Boycott, virtual dog shows and the importance of properly wrapping your parcels.
We covered a lot today, including how Help for Heroes pivoted to support even more people with their services during lockdown, the power of virtual industry conferences and a festive version of Virtualise This. Subscribe wherever you get yours!
In this week’s episode Lee has a voice transplant and Emma and Simon host a special guest. The team discuss Organised Fun, The Student Opportunities Conference, Nails Inc and The Rainforest Trust. We also talk payments processing (it’s better than it sounds!), tree planting and host Michael Hodges from St Oswald’s to discuss their response to the Great North Run being cancelled in ‘Virtualise This’.
This week’s episode is chock full of cool stuff, because that’s how we roll. Lee, Emma and Simon discuss what the future of fundraising for mass participation events might be, ABF - The Soldier’s Charity and their Operation Bletchley campaign, Budweiser’s lockdown friendly version of the Wassup ads and Father’s Day fundraising ideas. If you haven’t already, subscribe!
Emma, Simon and Lee discuss positive news from the past week, where there’s mention of wonderful journalism superheroes Positive.News and Macmillan’s Murder Mystery fundraising campaign. This week’s edition of ‘Virtualise This’ covers how to turn coffee mornings and bake sales into digital products. Subscribe wherever you get yours!
Today’s episode covers nice things we’ve noticed this past week, some stuff we’re looking forward to and the return of a blue bee. Oh, and we discussed some third sector news and bounced ideas around to turn a night walk into virtual event using our minds.
Emma Smith and Simon Varley join Lee for a chat about the things we’ve noticed this past few weeks, with shout-outs to Mountbatten Hospice, Support Dogs, Cancer Research UK, 8K with a M8 and The 2.6 Challenge. There’s a diversion in a Delorean to discuss giraffes, before we get on to how we think online fundraising might look in 6 months.
In our second podcast recorded at EGX 2019, Lee talks to Tom Martin from pets charity, Blue Cross about Paws2Play (pawstoplay.givepenny.com) and Eoghan Beecher from Shelter about how Level Up for Shelter (levelup.shelter.org.uk) has evolved since last year. We also met streamers, Argick and Phozonn about Sonic the Hedgehog and how fast they are at playing it... (hint: VERY FAST). Find them on Twitch: Twitch.tv/argick and twitch.tv/phozonn
We went to EGX and had loads of fun. Finding out the stories behind the games being worked on by indie developers was one of the highlights of day two. Be sure to check out Paws2Play and Level Up for Shelter as two AWESOME charity streaming challenges - game for pets or help to fight homelessness! Twitter handles for the developers we talked to: @_loeding_ @locomotiongame @calzila
